Ikorodu For Lagos Governor Mass Rally, Youths Lament Absence Of Politicians
Ikorodu For Lagos Governor
Mass Rally, Youths Lament Absence of Politicians
Following a mass rally organised by indigenes of Ikorodu to shore up support for the Ikorodu for Governor campaign,Youths in Ikorodu
Division have bemoaned the absence of key
political office holders and traditional rulers at the mass rally. A development they said is not good for the campaign to ensure Ikorodu gain the governorship ticket that is presumed to have been zoned to Lagos East, ahead of Epe Division that shares the same senatorial district.
Some of the youths who
shared their grievances through their social media handle said they are
surprised at the sudden change of attitude by the politicians.
The Founder and
Aministrator of Ikorodu Ambassadors, a nonpartisan socio-political group, Adedeji
Fatuga, said he had to drop his support because he will not allow himself to be
used for an hidden agenda.
“Here are my views,we all
say Ikorodu for Governor, but why can't our political, religious, community
leaders in Ikorodu division visit all the political parties secretariat, and
tell them to produce an Ikorodu indigene for their flag bearers, that if APC
does not produce, we shall all go to PDP that produces, and if LP doesn’t
produce, we shall go to APGA that produces? Why can't all our leaders go to the
print and electronic media to say all these things with their names mentioned?
Why can't the Obas and chiefs lead the struggle and the Christian Association,
the Muslim Community, Arewa and Igbo Community follows?” Fatuga wrote on his
wall showing his annoyance with the way the campaign is being carried about.
Another youth activist who
has been committed to empowering youths in the community, Aderoju Ladega said
truly the mega rally took place on October 28, 2015; she was surprised that
none of the political leader or political office holders was present. She
attributed the politicians’ action as betrayal.
Abike Olasupo Allison in
her own view said most of the aspirants from Ikorodu are not committed to the
campaign and are only in the race to prepare themselves for possible
appointments.
Adding his voice Adeleke
Fasanya, prays that God should see the community through the present tribulation
and humiliation from the bunch of shenanigans that are in the position of
leadership in the community.
Showing his disapproval of
the situation of things, Fatuga said, if people of Ikorodu division cannot
mobilize themselves without going to Alausa, the people should just pray for
another person from any division that will emerge and upgrade Lagos State
generally. He stated that Ikorodu for Governor must not be a particular party
affair.
However, one of the
Governorship aspirants contesting under Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi has said his absence at the rally was completely
unavoidable. He noted that he went to Abuja to pick his nomination form at the
National party Secretariat and his plane was delayed due to bad weather condition.
He pledged that the community would see more of him soon.
Another prominent aspirant contesting from Ikorodu that was absent is Senator Ganiu
Olarenwaju Solomon, GOS of All Progressives Congress. BlackBox Nigeria gathered that none of the political
representatives either elected, selected or appointed where at the political
rally which is the major concern of the youths.
The main contenders for the Lagos East slot from Epe Division are Akin Ambode and Obafemi Hamzat both in APC
