In an unsual manner, controversy seems to be trailing the emergence of Chief Kabiru Sotobi, the supposed new Ayangburen of Ikorodu.

BlackBox Nigeria had earlier reported that Chief Sotobi who is the Odofin of Ikorodu has been rumoured as the new king.

However when BBN spoke to Chief Adeyemi Oloyede Ladega, the Adegoruwa of Ikorodu and Secretary, Traditional Chiefs-In-Council of Ayangburen Palace, he said the news is blatant lie and a move by Sotobi to cause unnecesary tension in Ikorodu.

"As at this moment that I am talking to you (4:15pm), there is no official declaration to that effect. He (Chief Sotobi) is just try to cause uncessary tension in Ikorodu," he said.

He stated further that to clarify the same news that also got to him yesterday evening, he consulted with Chief Solomade Adekayoja, one of the Kingmakers who refuted the news.

Another source that chose to be anonymous  said that what happened was that yesterday, the ifa pick three people as likely candidate to the throne but Chief Sotobi went into town through his surrogates to announced that he has been picked by Ifa.

"The issue is presently being addressed at that palace of Ayangburen now(4:45pm), nobody has been picked. Anybody who says he is the king is only king in his parlour and not that of Ikorodu," he said.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that due to the delay in picking a successor to the late Ayangburen, the Lagos State Government had given the Council of Kingmakers an ultimatum  till January 15, 2015, to decide who becomes the Ayangburen of Ikorodu.

Chief Ladega told BBN that Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has waged into the process of selecting the King and has ordered for a fresh process because the previous one was flawed.

This mediun can reliable report that Chief Sotobi, Odofin of Ikorodu, has been recieving well wishers in his resident without refuting the news. Amongst the early callers today was Alhaji Seifudeen Olowo-oribi, Chief Imam Ikorodu Division.

Efforts to reach the Odofin of Ikorodu to confirm the news proved abortive. As at the time of filing this report he was not picking our correspondent's call and at other times the line was busy.

BlackBox Nigeria promises to unveil issues as they unfolds.
