President Goodluck Jonathan visited Nigeria's former military president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida at his hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger State capital today.
Jonathan who was accompanied on the visit by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); his Chief of Staff, Gen. Jones Arogbofa (retd.); Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed; and the Director-General of his campaign team, Ahmadu Ali, met behind closed-door with the military dictator.
The purpose was not stated, we can only hazard guesses. One of them is that President Jonathan went to Minna to wish Babangida well, almost two months after Babangida returned to Nigeria on 1 November after spending close to two months in Germany for medicare
President Jonathan later told journalists that he was in Minna to greet "his father" who recently returned to the country from a medical trip abroad.
Babangida also told journalists that all Nigerians must support Jonathan because he means well for the country.
