PRISON BREAK!100 Inmates Escape In Ekiti, 1 Warder Killed
About 100 prisoners are estimated to have escaped from Ado Ekiti Prison following a jailbreak between 10pm to midnight on Sunday.
An eyewitness said the prison attack was perpetrated by over 50 gunmen wielding heavy weapons, including improvised explosive devices, to blow open the prison gates and walls while chanting “Alau Akbar!”
A prison source confirmed that one Prison official was killed in the attack.
It could not be ascertained if Boko Haram militants were behind the prison break-in though the gunmen used the chant which has been used by Boko Haram militants to scare away prison warders during previous jailbreaks.
According to TVC, some of the escaping prisoners have been recaptured.
Earlier this morning, Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, came under siege as heavily armed gang suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists besieged the town leading to residents fleeing to safety.
