THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted that the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration is currently planning to have in place, an interim government, following failure of initial plans to have the elections postponed.

The party alleged that the administration had initially planned to use the courts to disqualify its presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.

It raised this alarm in Lagos, on Tuesday, at a press conference addressed by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, insisting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not ready for any election, but looking for opportunity to postpone the exercise.

This was as the party urged the Council of State, which is scheduled to meet in a few days' time, "not to allow itself to be used to scuttle the forthcoming elections, because it is in the interest of Nigeria and its people that the elections proceed as scheduled."

It alleged that the Jonathan-led government and PDP had resorted to lobbying some members of the council to support their clamour for election postponement.

"We hope the council, which is due to meet later in the week, will put national interest above narrow, partisan considerations and reject the poisoned chalice of election postponement," the party said.

According to the APC, the new strategy being plotted by election postponement campaigners working for Jonathan and PDP to scuttle the coming polls is to procure "pliant judges" to give outrageous and unpopular judgment at election tribunals and courts.

The party said such unpopular and outrageous judgments, as would be expected, were ones capable of destabilising the polity and causing "massive violence across the country, which they will then leverage as an excuse to scuttle the elections and form an interim government."

Reacting, the PDP, speaking through its national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, berated the APC for constantly making wild allegations and telling the public lies, rather than going to the field to canvass for votes.

According to Metuh, "Nigerians no longer take APC serious. APC is a rumour monger, this is strange. Let us wait till February 14 and see whether or not the election will hold that day and APC and its leaders gnashing their teeth.

"That day, they will be exposed and there will be no hiding place for them."
