Beheaded Japanese Journalist's Wife Releases Mournful Statement
The wife of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto released a new statement Sunday after Islamic State militants posted a video online purporting to show the beheading of her husband.
Mr. Goto's wife, Rinko, wrote in the message that she is devastated by the news but "extremely proud" of her husband. She also thanked those who offered support to her and her family since Mr. Goto went missing in October.
The message was made available by the Rory Peck Trust.
Here is the full transcript:
My family and I are devastated by the news of Kenji's death. He was not just my loving husband and father to our two beautiful children, but a son, brother and friend to many around the world.
While feeling a great personal loss, I remain extremely proud of my husband who reported the plight of people in conflict areas like Iraq, Somalia and Syria. It was his passion to highlight the effects on ordinary people, especially through the eyes of children, and to inform the rest of us of the tragedies of war.
I would like to thank everyone who has offered their support to myself and our family over these last difficult few months.
As you can imagine this is an extremely difficult time for our family. I would ask that the media please respect our privacy and allow us time to come to terms with our loss.
Rinko
