Co-Producer of @RealSeunKuti’ s “Long Way To The Beginning” Wins 2nd Grammy Award
The Co-Producer of Seun Kuti’s latest album “Long Way To The Beginning”
Robert Glasper has won his second Grammy Award at the event held over the
weekend in Los Angeles.
Robert Glasper’s “Experiment ft. Lalah Hathaway” won the Best
Traditional R&B Performance at
the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
The Jazz
pianist performed a similar feat in 2013, when his “Black
Radio” took home the prize for R&B album at the 55th Grammy Awards.
Fast raising Afrobeat maestro and Youth Activist, Seun Kuti, took to his
instagram page Monday morning to send a congratulatory message to his
co-producer.
Seun wrote ” Congratulations to my brethren. @therealrobertglasperand ur lovely manager and beautiful sister@nicolehegeman. Second Grammy award for best traditional r&b. It was
fun producing a long way to the beginning with u. Let's do it again.”
In June 2014, The New York Times reviewed the
co-produced “A Long Way to the Beginning” (Knitting Factory) album as “faster
and more insistent” with the demands of Afrobeat as created by Fela
Anikulapo-Kuti, Seun’s late Father .
“The arrangements (of the songs) have added
new layers of dissonance to give the songs more bite. And the underlying call
and response of Afrobeat, with terse motifs traded among the band’s percussion,
horns, guitars and singers, has turned denser and less symmetrical; now, little
overlapping outbursts cascade across the band, like sporadic flash fires,” the
paper wrote.
