More surprise has continue to welcome the withdrawal by the Federal Government a case involving former Bayelsa Governor and strong APC chieftain, Timipre Sylva.
The Director of Public Prosecution in the Federal Ministry of Justice, M.S. Diri had on Monday withdrew the case from court even to the chagrin of EFCC.
Sylva was standing trial for an alleged embezzlement of over N2.4 billion.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that this is following an earlier withdrawal by the Prosecution council, Festus Keyamo who recently abandoned the case. While the EFCC assigned someone else to prosecute the case, the DPP decided to withdraw it totally.
Sylva's lawyer, Israel Ologundare (SAN) didn't oppose the withdrawal but rather requested the court to order that his client's passport be returned while future arrests on same charges be prevented.
The presiding Judge, Justice Evoh Chukwu strucked out the case and ordered that Sylva's passport be returned to him.
The conversation has however moved online with many condemning the move saying the new government might have shot itself in the leg in its fight against corruption. Chief Timipre Sylva was the head of the Muhammadu Buhari Inauguration committee team and many have observed that the presidency might have decided to let him walk for obvious reasons...
