Courtney Dike has rejected the N1.2m ($7,000) bonus given to each player as bonus for playing in the 2014 FIFA U20 Women World Cup.

Courtney who is the younger sister of Super Eagles player, Bright Dike said she valued playing for Nigeria, more than the monetary reward.
Dr. Sanusi Mohammed,Head of competition, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made the revelation, saying that the federation was amazed at her refusal.

Sanusi told footballlive.ng that efforts to reach her mother could not even change Courtney's mind as her mother instead supported her daughter's stand not to collect the money.

The Federation member said:
"Courtney Dike is based in America. When she was paid the outstanding 10 days worth
of allowances in the tune of seven thousand dollars, she turned it down. When we called her mother to confirm the delivery of the allowances, she declined it and insisted the opportunity to serve Nigeria was all the reward the family needed. Besides she said she was to young too earn that much."

Terry G Explains Meaning Of AKPAKO, Says "Today's Music Is Evil"

Gabriel Amanyi is not new to the Nigerian entertainment industry having constantly dished out hits after hits to the satisfaction of his fans. In this recent interview, the Benue born singer, producer bares his mind on Nigerian music and why he started doing Akpako music...

Your music is now a success story, how did you do it?
My brother if I tell you say I know how, na lie I dey lie (laughs). I have been studying the industry and I have learnt to give the people what they want. I started with Rhythm and Blues and went to shoot my video in South Africa. The buzz I got from the song was not satisfactory, so I became frustrated and maybe that frustration led me to do the street music I'm doing now- the Apako song.

Apako has given you a name and identity on the Nigerian music scene, what inspired it?
Apako is a slang in Benin which means 'scope'. The song, Make I Nak You Apako is about a guy toasting a babe and scoping her. It means "let me scope you" or "let me yarn you that thing". It is a slang we use in Benin and in AJ. I had to study the terrain and come out with such a song. If dem no accept my R&B, dem go accept my street music, which bonds with the people.

Youths are now eager to go into music because of the glamour
(Cuts in) We are talking millions here. Music is now paying off, unlike decades ago.

But most of the songs Nigerians gyrate to have lewd lyrics, what's your take?
You see, today's music is evil. We call it commercial music. This is the music that brings the millions. People are still doing good music here but there is no buzz. It is the commercial music which some people term 'bad' music that is getting us the millions. It is all about the business of music and the glam that accompanies it. I said before that I was doing good music before, but the buzz was not there. So, I researched what the need is and experimented with songs like Make I Nack You Apako and others. It is not easy doing music; recording a song is a piece of creativity and you just do it from your heart and await the feedback from listeners.

How did music come to you?
I learnt music in Church. I am the first child and was very good at playing drums. My parents are pastors at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Peace Assembly Parish. Music started from church for me and now I have taken it to the street and made a name for myself. I did back-up for FAZE of Plantashun Boyz. I thank God; I'm here and my gift brought me success.

How can a "Church boy" and the son of pastors do your kind of music?‎

Music is business-don't forget that. I was in the choir; though I was stubborn growing up. However, looking back, the Church was not ready for me. I'm not sure I would have lasted if I had ventured into Gospel music. It is a matter of choice. I still pray and I'm a Christian.

It seems a lot of successful secular artistes got their start from Church, your thoughts?
It is a thing of choice. The music from the Church is mainstream and strictly Gospel; and the Church maybe doesn't understand our language as young, creative people in search of success. I honour my parents because they gave me the foundation.

Chris Brown spoke with Hot 97's Ebro this morning about how much it'd take to get him on a track, in his words he said

"It depends, Some people I give a homie price to…The most I charge is like $250,000…If the song's already a hit, then I'll get on it. But I'm still gonna take some publishing…and if they say they can only give you $30,000, I need 50 percent of the publishing."

"Cause I'm gonna get on the record, not to toot my own horn…I've gotten on records from a new artist and they've went No. 1. I will take a percentage of the publishing. If I'm gonna give you a No. 1, I'm gonna capitalize off it as well." He Said.

This gives an insight on how much it would cost WizKid on having a duet with Chris Brown. It will definitely cost him about $200,000-$250,000.... Mehn!, that is a whole lot of money when converted to Naira.‎

Celebrating Nigeria's Local Goal Kings!

Back in Kano Pillars, Ahmed Musa netted 18 league goals in a season before jetting off to Europe to continue his career

So over the years, the Nigerian football fans and critics alike have consistently focused on foreign stars and how they make history getting balls at the back of the net with little attention paid to our league.

BlackBox Nigeria's Azeez Mustapha hereby writes on the top scorers in the Nigerian Premier League for over two decades since it's inception.

Since its inception, the Nigeria league has always been referred to as the "defenders' league because they've earned a reputation for shutting out attackers, BlackBox nigeria explores the evolution of the league from a defenders league to what it ought to be a Scorer's League as Enyimba's Ufom Udoh bags in his 21st goal of the season to be crowned King of goals.

The Nigerian league started officially in 1990 with Iwuayanwu Nationale's point man Ishaya Jatau taking home the golden boot for the inaugural season with 17 goals, however sport loving Nigeirans and Local league enthusiast had to wait for twenty years of football before another player could surpass that feat and that came in the person of Super Eagles Wizkid who stunned the Argentines at the last World Cup with a brace, former Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa scored 18 goals in the 2009/10 league season to be crowned king.
Ufom Edoh is the Nigerian league's highest goal scorer of all times

Unlike Jatau's in 1990, Ahmed Musa's record couldn't withstand the test of time has Kaduna united Striker Jude Aneke dislodged the goal scoring record the following season, scoring 20 goals in the 2010-11 league season.

It appears that the Nigerian professional Football league is not left out of the global evolution of football as league strikers are becoming more clinical in front of Goal, the goal returns from strikers in the League is becoming impressive.
After two failed attempts by his contemporaries, Former Kaduna United striker Jude Aneke finally lost his crown to Enyimba international of Aba hitman Ufom Udoh, having scored 21 goals so far this season with the luxury of a game still in hand.
However the people's Elephant point man will not be celebrating just yet as he his being closely chased by Dolphin's Striker Emem Eduok who also has a game to claim the crown from him with 20 goals registered already.
Emem Eduok has a last chance to overthrow his kinsman off the chat as the highest goal scorer of all times

CDD calls on the Military in Burkina Faso to Hand over Power to Civilians Immediately

No comments :
Director, Centre for Democracy and Development, Idayat Hassan

The Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, has called on the military junta in Burkina Faso junta led by Lieutenant Colonel Yacouba Isaac Zida to hand over power to civilians with immediate effect.

In a press statement dated November 3, 2014 and signed by CDD Director, Idayat Hassan, the centre noted that the Burkina Faso uprising against former Burkina President Blaise Campaore’s dictatorship was people-drive and led by civil society and opposition political parties, thus, the military cannot seize power in a process it did not participated.

“The military cannot and should not be allowed to sieze power in a context in which they played no role in the evolution of people’s power leading to the ouster of the Compaore regime. Indeed, many of the leaders of the military have been core players in the Compaore dictatorship,” the press statement stated.

It noted that since the usurpation of power on October 30, 2014, when massive protests forced President Blaise Compaore to cede power and escape with his family to Cote d’Ivoire, there has been a number of announcements by military officers that they have assumed the leadership of the country and made promises about the establishment of a broad-based transitional government that will conduct state affairs until elections are held within a year.

However, the citizens have continued to call for the Military to return power to the civilian, a position supported by CDD. The Centre states that the military should remain in the barracks and allow a civilian led interim government to organize elections for a new government.

“The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) strongly supports the position of Burkinabe civil society and opposition parties that the military should remain in the barracks and that the “forces vives de la Nation” which prepared and led the insurrection at the cost of many lives should appoint an interim government which would immediately organise elections for a new government.”

The Centre draws attention to the fact that both the African Union Charter on Democracy, Elections and Good Governance and Economic Community of West African States Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance completely reject any form of unconstitutional change of government along the lines proposed by the Burkinabe military, noting that Africa has turned its back on military rule.

“The Centre for Democracy and Development also wishes to draw attention to the fact that the attempt by Blaise Compaore to extend his mandate beyond 2015 is sadly becoming common place in Africa. Already, a number of African leaders have amended their country’s national constitution to extend their tenure against the wishes of the people. This has happened in Algeria, Cameroon, Chad, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Togo, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The development in Burkina Faso is a reminder to sit-tight African leaders that people’s power is today a potent force capable of throwing out dictators from power,” CDD stated.

CDD further calls on the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States, and the international community to ensure that civilians are allowed to determine the future of the country while the military maintains their constitutional role of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Burkina Faso.

The present crisis in Burkina Faso was as a result of an attempt by the former Burkina President Blaise Campaore to amend Article 37 of the Constitution to allow him to stand in the 2015 general election after 27 years in power. On Thursday, October 30, 2014, over a million Burkinabes stormed the National Parliament were the amendment is to take place and destroyed it. The massive protests by the Burkina people forced President Blaise Compaore to quickly cede power and escape with his family to Cote d’Ivoire.

Soyinka Denounces Jonathan Support Group Over Fabricated Report

Soyinka Denounces Jonathan Support Group Over Fabricated Report

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has strongly denounced one of the groups campaigning for President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection for attributing a fabricated report to him. The offensive report, published online by the Jonathan group, was titled, “The North Must Stop Bombing Nigeria & Blaming Jonathan – Prof. Wole Soyinka”.

The report quoted the Nobel laureate as stating, “If the United States citizens decide to be bombing the USA everyday and ready to die, there is nothing Obama can do about it. The only thing he can do is to urge citizens to report bad people. If citizens refuse to report evil people then there is nothing anyone can do. The only thing he can do is to urge citizens to report bad people. If citizens refuse to report evil people then there is nothing anyone can do.”
The fabricated report, which is full of grammatical errors, continued: “Here in the USA in Chicago to be precise more than 10 people are killed everyday and that’s the same thing. I am only worried that this is Abuja.
President Jonathan’s support group further credited the professor with stating, “There are people in power in certain parts of the country, leaders, who quite genuinely and authoritatively hate and cannot tolerate any religion outside their own. When you combine that with the ambitions of a number of people who believe they are divinely endowed to rule the country and who believe that their religion is above whatever else binds the entire nation together, and somehow the power appears to slip from their hands, then they resort to the most extreme measures. Youths who have been indoctrinated right from infancy can be used, and who have been used, again and again to create mayhem in the country. Those who have created this faceless army have lost control.”
In a reaction obtained by SaharaReporters, an obviously outraged Professor Soyinka described the attempt by the “Goodluck Support Network” to link him to the spurious report as “unscrupulous, disgusting and cowardly.”
He also stated that the group must be truly desperate to resort to despicable tactics of fabrication.
“This is an unscrupulous, disgusting and cowardly fabrication,” said Professor Soyinka, adding, ‘“The Goodluck Support Network’ must be truly desperate to resort to such despicable tactics.”
Campaign groups close to President Jonathan have notoriously cloned websites, including SaharaReporters.com, and attributed a series of false statements to various people in a bid to whip up sentiments against the president’s political opponents or to portray the president as the victim of a vast conspiracy by northern political groups.

A barman, who works in a hotel located on Obokun Avenue, in the Ojodu area of Lagos, is battling with wounds he sustained during an 'unprovoked' attack by a customer.

PUNCH Metro reports that the alleged attacker, Kelvin Friday, a resident of Ojodu-Abiodun, Ogun State, allegedly stabbed the barman, who he accused of staring at him and his girlfriend.

It was gathered that Friday and his girlfriend, whose name had yet to be ascertained, had gone to
drink in the hotel around 6pm on October 21, when the incident happened. The victim, Simeon Tenebe, claimed he was brooding on an issue he had discussed with his sister earlier in the day when the 25-year-old man confronted him. He added that Friday interpreted his stare for rebuke and challenged him to a scuffle.

Friday reportedly smashed the bottle of beer he was drinking on the barman, inflicting injuries on his face and head. His girlfriend, it was learnt, fled the scene when Tenebe started bleeding. Prior to the incident, it was said that Friday had accused the barman of being unpleasant while attending to him and his girlfriend.

Tenebe reported the incident to the police, who arrested the suspect and charged him to an Ikeja Magistrate's Court for assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione, brought him before the Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Akinde, on one count of assault to which he pleaded not guilty.

The charge reads, "That you, Kelvin Friday, 25, on October 21, 2014 at about 6pm at Obokun Avenue, Ojodu in the Ikeja Magisterial District unlawfully used a bottle on the head and face of one Simeon Tenebe and inflicted injuries, to wit grievous harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 243 (1) Vol. 44, No. 2 Law of Lagos State, 2011."

Akinde admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

"The sureties must present evidence of tax payment, means of livelihood and deposit N20, 000 to the account of the chief registrar. Their addresses must also be verified by the prosecutor," she added.

Police Officer Kills Baby, Leaves Wife For Dead Over N2,000

Like a scene from a horror movie, a police corporal, Lucky Ikharia, on October 30, allegedly used a bus to crush the legs of his wife, Dupe. Having left her for dead, Lucky went home where he allegedly stabbed his baby, David, to death, ripping out the toddler's intestines.

Still in a rage, the policeman turned the knife on himself in an attempt to take his own life.

PUNCH Metro, however, learnt that Lucky and his wife survived but both were in critical conditions.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred at the family's rented apartment in Kale Close, Mafoluku, Oshodi last week.

Our correspondent gathered that four days prior to the incident, 34-year-old Lucky, who hails from Sabon Gida Ora, Edo State, had a quarrel with his wife, Dupe over N2,000, after which he reportedly sent her packing.

The policeman, who is attached to the Makinde Police Division, Oshodi, Lagos had also 'seized' their only child from Dupe as a means of 'punishing' her.

PUNCH Metro learnt that around 8pm on the day of the attack, Dupe, a 30-year-old indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was heading for her mother's house in Mushin unknown to her that Lucky was waiting in a bus to attack her.

It was learnt that on getting to Olorunshogo junction, Lucky pursued his wife with the bus, crushing her legs in the process.

Leaving her for dead, Lucky was said to have fled the scene while passersby initially thought the attack was random.

However, after Dupe was rushed to a nearby hospital on same evening for treatment and had regained consciousness the following morning, she explained that the man who drove the bus which crushed her legs was her own husband.

Unknown to Dupe, after her husband attacked her, he reportedly drove back to their apartment where he stabbed their child, David, in the belly, before fleeing the residence.

Our correspondent learnt that Lucky's co-tenants and Dupe's relatives who discovered the baby's corpse on Friday morning, reported the incident at the Akinpelu Police Division. It was also gathered that the knife and the bus had both been recovered.

When PUNCH Metro visited the hospital where Dupe was receiving treatment on Monday, the woman, who could hardly speak. She said the cause of the fight was a sum of N2000 which Lucky claimed she stole.

She said, "We got married and started living together around October 2013. We usually had quarrels and that was not the first time he would beat me up, and send me out of the house. But this incident started on Sunday, October 26. Lucky had initially kept N15,000 with me.

"Then, on Sunday, he collected N5, 000 to repair the bus. Later I gave him the rest, only to realise it was N8, 000. So, he began to question where I kept the remaining N2000. But I knew that it was his nature to stir up trouble because he had a habit of keeping money with me and going again to take it.

"So, we began to fight, and he asked me to leave the house. He did not allow me to take the child with me that day. I was sleeping in friends' places until Thursday when I decided to go back home. I did not find my baby, and when I asked him, he threatened that if he met me in the house by evening, he would kill me, kill the baby and himself."

Dupe said she was then called by her mother to come to their family house in Mushin, adding that as she got on her way, and was at the Olorunshogo junction, a commercial bus swerved to her path and hit her several times.

She said, "The commercial bus was his bus. He was the only man inside. He hit me and I fell. Then he reversed and came over my legs again. I lost consciousness. That was the last thing I knew."

Our correspondent learnt from one of the nurses that Dupe might be admitted in the hospital for about two months and might spend over N600,000 for treatment owing to the severity of the attack.

One of Dupe's relatives, Mr. Segun Akiode, told our correspondent that the family had yet to inform Dupe of her son's death. He added that the family also did not know Lucky's whereabouts.

He said, "I was called on the phone on Thursday evening that my sister was knocked down at Olorunshogo junction. When I got there, I met her in a pool of blood. So, we rushed her to a hospital. It was already around 9.30pm.

"On Friday, when we went to their apartment, we found the baby boy, stabbed in the belly and already dead on the floor. We have not told Dupe about his death yet. So, we went to report at the Akinpelu Police Division, and we were asked to describe the bus which hit Dupe. When we did, they said the bus was with them in the station, but the whereabouts of Lucky were still unknown."

When our correspondent got to the couple's rented apartment in Kale Close, Mafoluku, it was learnt from neighbours that Lucky had not been seen at home since the day of incident.

At the Makinde Division, a police source told our correspondent that the suspect was one of the patrol van drivers, but he had not come to work since the day of the incident.

The source added that Lucky, who was believed to have also stabbed himself, was in an undisclosed hospital receiving treatment.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, when contacted promised to get back to our correspondent on the matter, but he had yet to do so as of press time.

Meanwhile, PUNCH Metro learnt that the corpse of the baby had been deposited at a morgue in Yaba, Lagos.

6,000 PDP Members Decamps To APC In Akoko-Edo

At least 6,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area on Sunday dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress.

The defectors were received at a colorful reception by the leadership of the APC at Igarra, the Headquartres of Akoko-Edo LGA, which also had in attendance serving lawmakers and aspirants into the national and state assemblies, including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, who is also a senatorial aspirant, and a House of Representatives aspirant, Anslem Agbabi.

Speaking at the reception rally, the Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Domingo Obende, expressed confidence that the party had taken control of the Federal House of Representatives, with the recent defection of the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.

Obende, who described the withdrawal of Tambuwal's security details by the Nigeria Police as unconstitutional, stated that the current change in the House of Representatives was a precursor to the wind of change the APC would bring about in the 2015 general elections.

"The position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is not a position of a political party but a position that is given to someone in the chambers to lead the others. They are equal but one has to [be] given the power to lead.

"I do not know where PDP is coming from [but] withdrawing his police details, is very wrong, very unconstitutional and it has to be restored.

"The change already happening in the National Assembly is a pointer to the change that we are going to witness next year.

"I want to say to you that there is nothing the PDP can do about the speaker; there is no way they can raise 240 members to impeach Tambuwal and since they cannot do that, the APC is now fully in charge of the House of Representatives and I want to say that today, we must know that God is working in our direction.

"This change cannot come if you and I are not in oneness. This change will not come if you and I are not committed to our party. We must work hard, there should be no rancor", the senator said.

The trouble started when Mr Sunday Obi, a former staff of Chevron, was served breakfast but instead of water, he was given acid to drink.

The Obi family in Warri, Delta State has been torn apart by a case of murder after its patriarch, Sunday was allegedly killed by his own son, Ikechukwu.

The trouble was said to have started when Mr. Obi, a former staff of Chevron, was served breakfast on May 23, 2014 but instead of water, he was given acid to drink.

His wife, Dora narrated the incident to Vanguard saying that she suspected the victim's son of murdering his father so that he can inherit the latter's wealth.

She said:
"We woke up that morning; and I made his (husband) breakfast before I left for church. While in church, I received an urgent call from his last son, Ikechukwu, that I should come home, that my husband had been rushed to hospital."

"When I tried to find out what actually happened to him, Ikechukwu said he drank acid. At the General Hospital Warri where he was rushed to, we were referred to Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DSTH), Oghara where the doctors said the case was beyond them. We were again referred to University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) when they could not handle the case. He died four days later at the UBTH and has not been buried."

"Ikechukwu was the only one at home with him when the incident occurred. I was told that when my husband was eating, he asked for a cup of water and he was served with acid instead of water."

"I was told that Ikechukwu allegedly confessed that it was one of his siblings who brought the acid, claiming it was drug and that he did not know that it was acid before giving it to his father as water. The motive of the action was probably as a result of his wealth. He did not offend them in any way; they wanted him to die so that they will inherit his wealth"

The victim's daughter, Esther told her account of what happened when she learnt of her father's "accident"

"I hurriedly dressed up and, on getting to the hospital; I was dumbfounded on what I saw. Already, my mother and brothers were there and, when I asked what happened to him, Anayo said that it was Ikechukwu that gave him acid to drink and that he had reported the incident to the police at A Division who later came to the hospital to interrogate my father", she said.

"When the policemen left, I asked my father why he should drink acid, and he said that he asked for water and he was served with acid; he said that he did not know it was acid and that it was Ikechukwu who gave him. I observed that the mouth and chest were burnt." she added.

Three suspects, including two sons of the victim, Ikechukwu and Anayo, have reportedly been arrested in connection with the death and investigations are still ongoing.

The National President of Actors' Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima is getting married in a couple of weeks' to the most awesome man in the universe according to her.

Contrary to what some online media reported earlier that, she had five children for five men, this medium can tell you that, the delectable woman of essence actually have four children for four men but one marriage.

Her recent tweet on her timeline might have been getting negative comments from people who do not really wish her well. But one fact still remains that, he has her life to live. Besides, it's nobody's business if she's got 10 kids from 10 men.

It's here in Africa, most especially Nigeria, that people unnecessarily poke nose-into another person's affair. 2face idibia has four kids from three women, nobody has nailed him for crying out loud, it's obvious, haters of the success of the ever-radiant actress cum producer, Ibinaboh are the ones spreading this ugly news about her.

Is she really deterred? We are sure, she is not, this might be the reason she replied her critics with the attached snapshot…

Edafiake, who is a father to two teenage daughters and three other children, is said to have formed the habit of having sex with the girl whenever her stepmother was absent.

He also reportedly tipped her between N1000-N1500 to convince her to keep the affair quiet.

The suspect was however exposed when the girl's parents suspected that she was with child and took her to a hospital for testing where their suspicions were confirmed.

Edafiake was said to have confessed to the crime after his arrest leading his family members to plead for an out-of-court settlement but the girl's family is reportedly insisting that he must marry her.

The accused has been granted bail until the full determination of the case against him.
