Expectations by Nigerians that history would be made at this year's general election with the country getting its first female governor ever has been effectively dashed.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Taraba, Aisha Al-Hassan, who put up a strong showing in the well-fought race, has now reached the end of the road.
At the end of collation of votes for Saturday's supplementary election in the state, Ms. Al-Hasan got 13,599 votes to trail the Peoples Democratic Party's Darius Ishiaku, who garnered 53,120 votes.
When the votes earned by both candidates in both the April 11 and April 25 elections are added, Mr. Ishiaku's cumulative ballots came to 360,318  to the APC's candidate 275,985.
The Independent National Electoral Commission is about to officially declare the PDP candidate the winner of the election.
The 2015 governorship in Taraba state enjoyed huge following across the country with several activists and young people backing the APC candidate to make history as the first female governor in the country's history.
In fact, as results of the election from local government areas trickled into INEC office in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on April 11, Ms. Al-Hasan, fondly known as Mama Taraba by supporters, at some point overtook her main challenger, Mr. Ishiaku.
This triggered nationwide celebration by people who thought Ms. Al-hasan was on her way to dislodging the PDP from the state in a historic win.
But as more votes arrived from remote local governments, it emerged that Ms. Al-Hasan was actually trailing her challenger.
At the end of INEC's final collation that day, the election was declared inconclusive because the margin of Mr. Ishiaku's  victory was lower than the number of registered voters in areas where elections either did not hold or were cancelled due to irregularities.
Yesterday's supplementary election held in those areas, with Mr. Ishiaku getting the most votes.

ALADI Sule lies critically ill at  the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi State.  Her body is wrapped  in bandage,  from the head to the chest. Part  of her back and  her right leg are socked in foil. One of her eyes has been "eaten" by acid and her right ear is  rolled into a small  ball. Aladi's critical situation is no  thanks to an  alleged angry ex-lover who  was said to have promised to destroy  her beauty and  fulfilled  his promise.
Two months ago, Aladi was a pretty lady in her community, Idah, the  headquarters of Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State. At  25,  Aladi's beauty was like a springing bud of  flower whose nectar was attractive to men. But that beauty was destroyed few weeks ago when the alleged  ex-lover bathed  her with acid and left her in agony.  A visit to the hospital showed  that  Aladi knew her body had been 'recreated' by the acid. However, she did  not know the degree of the attack.
She was yet to come to terms with the fact  that her right ear and right eye had been damaged  by the acid. Aladi, who struggle in pains to narrate the ugly incident, said was suffering because she failed to take serious the threat of her ex-lover, Kazeem Abdullahi, who, she alleged, had come to her fruits shop, to deal with her if she failed to pack out of the house he rented for her. Sunday Vanguard gathered that Aladi and the suspect  were secondary school lovers in Idah.
Shortly after their secondary school education, Aladi became pregnant for him in 2011, a  development that caused  Aladi to moved into Kazeem's  house. The pregnancy produced a baby girl. Unfortunately, the baby died shortly after her first  birthday.  Kazeem was said to have married another wife  in 2011 who also moved into the  house with them – that was the beginning of Aladi's travail.
The new wife was said to have raised the alarm shortly after that Aladi was the reason she was unable to conceive. She alleged that  Aladi  had been visiting a neighboring community to affect her spiritually.
The second wife was also said to have alleged that the sudden disappearance of her clothes and other house hold items was a product of Aladi's spiritual attack; a  development that made Kazeem to send Aladi's away to her family house. Few months after, Kazeem was said to have  approached Aladi to return to the house. This time around,  Aladi's family kicked against it. The paternal uncle was said to have frowned against it.
He was said to have told Kazeem to prepare for marriage rites before he could get her back to his house. His position was hinged on the fact that Aladi was subjected to such maltreatment because there was no proper marriage between them. Kazeem promised to perform the marriage rite. In the interim, he rented a  house, for her. However, few months after, Kazeem was said to have recanted and said he was no longer interested in continuing with the marriage.
The family was said to have raised money for Aladi  which she used to start  the business of selling provision in the market in day time and, in the evening, retired to her street corner ( Bishop Junction) selling fruits.  Bishop Junction is a popular area of Idah with taxi and Okada riders using the place as their park. In few months, she was able to raise fund and was already planning to seek admission to the university. It was at this Bishop Junction that Kazeem approached her and demanded that she pack  out of the house he rented for her. "He told me to pack out, threatening to deal with me.
He said he was  going to recreate me and make me ugly saying it was because men were still looking at me that made me think I was pretty. He also said if I failed to pack out, he will deal with me and destroy the beauty that I was  using to 'pose' around town. I thought he was just jealous that I was  looking good and making progress with my business after he said he was no longer interested in me. I told  him it was  mere anger and I decided to ignore his warning."Aladi also said she did not bother to inform any of her family members about the threat until the sad event happened. Not done, Kazeem was said to have approached the land lady he rented the house from, urging her to send Aladi's packing.
The landlady was said to have informed him that she could not send her away on the grounds that she had been able to renew the house rent on her own. Kazeem was said to have stormed out of the building but not before telling the land lady to expect him back in a manner she will never forget. Two weeks later, it happened. Aladi said it was around midnight when she was sleeping at home with her niece  staying with her. Because of the heat, she decided to open her door; afterall, some  occupants of the building were also sleeping outside.   She said she was woken up by the sound of her niece struggling with a man  beside her on the bed."I saw my niece struggling with him.

Kazeem was holding a container in his hand. Immediately I saw him, I began to scream his name but, before my shout could attract  people, he had already poured  the content on me. Immediately, it felt as if my body was set up on fire. I didn't know what happened next until I found myself at the village cottage clinic". The niece was also affected at the head as  the acid poured on her. Her sister, Fatima Sule, who is looking after her, said the family received  a distress call from a  neighbor, who heard her shouting and rushed to her room.
The neighbor was said to have seen a familiar figure bolting  out of the room, and, on getting inside, saw her with the acid sprayed on her body. They immediately rushed her to the village clinic. "When we got to the hospital I could not identify my sister again. Part of her body had been burnt beyond  recognition". The elder brother, Isiaka Sule, a VIO officer, who has been responsible for the medical payment, said it was around 2 o'clock in the night when her sister, Fatima, called him to say  their sister had been bathed with acid. Isiaka said the next day he and  some  family member went to the police station in the community to lodge a  complaint. But to their surprise, Kazeem was said to have been there to lodge a similar complaint.
But Kazeem, in his statement, told the police that he heard that a lady in her street (even though he allegedly lives  far away from the place) had been bathed with acid. He was quoted as saying he only came to the station to report as a good  citizen and because some people may say he was the one who did it. Aladi from the sick bed, insisted the estranged  lover was the person she saw on the day she was attacked. The police arrested Kazeem but  three days later set him free as his(Kazeem) parents promised to take care of Aladi's medical bill. The Sule family decided against pursuing the case in  court, opting instead to focus  on saving the life of their sister. "How can I have the  time, energy or money to go to court or continue visiting the police station when our sister is still lying critically ill in  hospital?
As I speak with you we have spent over N300,000 on her treatment. I have even taken a soft loan of N100, 000 from Sharp – Sharp. That along with the money from  sympathizers has all been expended. We have exceeded our financial limit,"Isiaka said. Aladi  still has a long way to go. The doctors  treating her said there are  two other surgeries to be carried out aside the fact that her right eye had been lost and the right ear eaten by the acid. Since the doctors could not get vein in her hands; they had to lacerate one of her legs in order to pass  drips. Aladi  fears she may not be able to walk again.
"All I'm after is to be able to walk again. Presently I cannot put  my leg on the ground . I know I am already disfigured. I also know that he (Kazeem) has  succeeded in his plan.I don't care about my body or look again; I just hope I can walk," she stated. The doctors however give a glimpse of hope. The laceration of Aladi's leg will not make her paralyzed. They said she will still be able to use the leg to walk again. The families are however  in the dilemma on how to raise money for the other surgeries and pay  medical bills that will arise. The efforts of the family to approach Kogi State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs have not yielded  positive result. The family is appealing to individuals and  organizations to come to their aid to give their sister  'life' again. 30-year-old Nweke Chinonso started his confession by blaming the devil for the tragic events of Sunday, "I do not know the spirit that got inside me that day," he began.
In his defense, Chinonso begged to be taken as a victim of a supernatural force that took control of him and made him to kill his neighbour, Kunle Abiola.
He started his narration by revealing that he only sat in the front of his house to relax that Sunday morning when the deceased and another neighbour came to trouble him, "I no longer go to church,"I was relaxing in the front of my apartment at 100, Mba Street, Ajegunle, when my neighbours, Ismail and Kunle (Abiola), told me to join them where they were sitting. I told them I would not and they started to foment trouble.
"I did not want to associate with them because I don't speak their language and I can't trust them. But while they were troubling me where I sat, Ismail pinned my arms behind me and Kunle slapped me.
"Immediately he slapped me, I could not control myself anymore, it was like I was on remote control as a spirit pushed me to go and take a kitchen knife. I rushed in and took the knife, came back outside and stabbed Kunle."

The deceased was stabbed twice – in the chest and jaw. As incredible as Chinonso's claim sounded, he swore he was telling the truth. He explained though, that Abiola had in the past slapped him for no concrete reasons, "There was even a time I went to a drinking joint in our area and saw him (Abiola) there. As soon as I sat down, he came over and challenged me for coming to the same joint where he drank. He slapped me right there and I could not do anything," Chinonso said.
Although there hasn't ever been any bad blood between the deceased and the suspect, Chinonso stuck to his story even though his neighbors called his bluff saying it is all hogwash.

According to their own version, the incident started when a fight broke out between Ismail and Chinonso but Abiola only attempted to separate them when he was stabbed, "Chinonso stabbed him because he believed that Abiola was on the side of Ismail."

Suleiman Hashimu, the 'Buharian traveler' recently completed his trek from Lagos to Abuja and fortunately for him, he got to meet the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
Another supporter of the President-elect, Abubakar Duduwale, is set to embark on a similar journey, but this time, from Adamawa to Abuja.
Duduwale revealed to journalists in Yola on Saturday, April 25, as he prepared to embark on his journey that he was traveling by foot to celebrate the victory of Buhari at the presidential election.
He was said to have began his journey at Yola Gate on Yola-Numan highway at about 6:30 a.m.
Duduwale disclosed that he had wanted to commence the trek a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Buhari as a winner but somebody from Lagos beat him to it.
He said: "The reason why I am trekking from Yola to Abuja is to express my joy and solidarity with President -elect Muhammadu Buhari. I want to trek from Yola to Abuja to witness the inauguration ceremony of President elect."

The Zone 2 of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has warned policemen that are in the habit of dressing shabbily to desist from such acts or face dire consequences.‎
The warning was given on Saturday by the spokesperson for the zone, Gbenga Adeoye, a Chief Superintendent of Police, who spoke on behalf of the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the zone, Joseph Mbu.
Adeoye who spoke during an interview in Lagos stressed that policemen that were not properly dressed was a sign of disrespect and a disgrace to the entire Nigeria Police Force.
"Hard times await policemen who are improperly dressing. All those who dress improperly will only have themselves to blame because they will be arrested and tried.
"The way you are dressed is the way you will be addressed,'' he said.
He said that Joseph Mbu, the AIG in charge of Zone 2, had single-handedly arrested officers who were not properly dressed.

He added that the relevant unit of the NPF would be alerted to deal with the disturbing development.
"Apart from the AIG not relenting in arresting these set of officers, the relevant unit of the police, which is the X-squad, are also going after these bad eggs in the force.
"I also assure you that this unit will be alerted on the increase in this menace,'' he said.

Adeoye added that Mbu had also warned officers that were fond of extorting money from civilians to desist from it or face the full wrath of the law.

On the effectiveness of the X-squad, Adeoye said the unit have had been up and doing, and would not relent in their onerous task of maintaining discipline.
"The X-squad is still in use and arrests have been made severally, though I cannot categorically tell you the number of arrests that have been made. Anyone found wanting will be arrested, charged and tried in the orderly room.
"If found guilty, the rank of such person might be reduced and in cases like extortion, it is summary dismissal,'' he said.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, has named outgoing First Lady, Patience Jonathan as one of the reasons why the party suffered a heavy defeat in the recently-concluded elections.
The Bayelsa State publicity secretary of the party, Osom Makbere, says President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election due to international and domestic conspiracies as well as the overbearing attitude of the First Lady.
Makbere said, "History has stated that no failure, defeat or loss is a product of a single factor. Jonathan's loss could be blamed on a multiplicity of interwoven causes.
"Jonathan was a victim and target of international cum domestic esoteric codes and conspiracies. On the international level, the passage of the anti-gay legislation led to criticisms and face-off with the US, and the West."
"The strides made in the economic sphere, especially domestic rice promotion, calculated by the Jonathan administration to flip economic growth, and boost import substitution, also negatively alerted the West."
"The shift to China for our railway transformation, and recently, the migration to Russia for arms and ammunition to quelling the insurgency also signalled to the West that Jonathan had started constituting a self-reliant and dependent nation-state, a feat seen too tall by the US and their allies in the West."
"The aforesaid international factors found room to flourish given the obstinacy and impudence on the part of Mrs. Jonathan. The end result of her personal ambition to plant 'self-made' governors triggered face-offs with some governors."

Speaking further, Makbere stated that the All Progressives Congress will perform worse than the PDP at the centre.
"I can tell you that this APC will be worse than the PDP as there is already imminent fear of implosion. In Kano, for instance, the APC got all 40 constituencies. This meant that none of the PDP candidates were popular enough to emerge but, the PDP maintained their calm and stoicism."
"We do not know what the APC wants. Whenever they win, the PDP congratulates them, but whenever the PDP wins, the APC would induce the election observers and the electoral officers to call for a re-run or cancellation. That is the zenith of desperation."

Two soldiers were killed and another injured when a blast occurred at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, 3 Armoured Division, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Plateau State on Saturday. Another soldier was said to have sustained injuries.‎
The blast, which occurred around 10.45am, was said to have been caused by the destruction of old explosives in an old ammunition armoury.
Some soldiers were said to be clearing the stock when some of the explosives went off.

The blasts, which were heard many kilometres away created panic in Jos and Bukuru metropolis as rumours went round that the barracks was under attacks by some insurgents.

Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Texas Chukwu, who confirmed the development, said there was no iota of truth in the insinuation that the barracks was under attack.
According to him, the explosions occurred during an on-going demolition exercise, which started on Wednesday.
Chukwu, in a statement, in Jos on Saturday, said, "The attention of 3 Division headquarters at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, was this morning drawn to the news making the rounds in some media houses that a bomb exploded at the cantonment as a result of handiwork of insurgents.
"I want to use this medium therefore to state that this cantonment was not under attack or attacked by insurgents. There is an on-going demolition exercise which started on Wednesday, April 20 and to terminate on May 4. The public was informed in the media. The explosion heard in the cantonment was from an accident that occurred while the troops authorised to destroy unserviceable ammunition were transporting the ammunition.
"Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of being moved to the demolition site. The explosions did not affect the cantonment or the neighbouring communities. Unfortunately two soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injury," he added.
Chukwu said normalcy had been restored to the area.

Two soldiers were killed and another injured when a blast occurred at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, 3 Armoured Division, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Plateau State on Saturday. Another soldier was said to have sustained injuries.‎
The blast, which occurred around 10.45am, was said to have been caused by the destruction of old explosives in an old ammunition armoury.
Some soldiers were said to be clearing the stock when some of the explosives went off.

The blasts, which were heard many kilometres away created panic in Jos and Bukuru metropolis as rumours went round that the barracks was under attacks by some insurgents.

Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Texas Chukwu, who confirmed the development, said there was no iota of truth in the insinuation that the barracks was under attack.
According to him, the explosions occurred during an on-going demolition exercise, which started on Wednesday.
Chukwu, in a statement, in Jos on Saturday, said, "The attention of 3 Division headquarters at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, was this morning drawn to the news making the rounds in some media houses that a bomb exploded at the cantonment as a result of handiwork of insurgents.
"I want to use this medium therefore to state that this cantonment was not under attack or attacked by insurgents. There is an on-going demolition exercise which started on Wednesday, April 20 and to terminate on May 4. The public was informed in the media. The explosion heard in the cantonment was from an accident that occurred while the troops authorised to destroy unserviceable ammunition were transporting the ammunition.
"Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of being moved to the demolition site. The explosions did not affect the cantonment or the neighbouring communities. Unfortunately two soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injury," he added.
Chukwu said normalcy had been restored to the area.

The Lagos State government is working on making Wi-Fi accessible to every resident of the southern Nigerian State,  an official said.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the State's ICT Ministry, Mrs Nike Animashaun, the first phase of the Wi-Fi connectivity would be deployed at parks located at different parts of the state.
She said the Wi-Fi would be deployed at parks in Oshodi, Alausa and Ajegunle.
"The Wi-Fi services will be in some of the parks in the state and when it is deployed, residents of Lagos State would be able to access Wi-Fi in some of the parks," she said
Mrs Animashaun said that the state government came up with the idea to stimulate and encourage the interest of children in science and technology.
She did not state if the Wi-Fi would be free.

At a '2015 Ministerial Press Briefing in Alausa', the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Adebiyi Mabadeje, said the ministry would continue to provide advisory services for all Ministries Department and Agencies on science and Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Mr Mabadeje said the government was using ICT to strengthen the state's E-governance capabilities in other to conveniently serve its residents.
"In line with our ministerial responsibilities and mission statement of employing science and technology in all activities towards improving the quality of life of Lagos residents and transforming Lagos into a developed industrial and modern city of international statute, the state has leveraged on science and technology to improve service delivery, especially leveraging on ITC to strengthen our government's capabilities and enable the state to serve residents better," he said.

A 31-year old graduate, Kehinde Lateef who served his one year internship with Sterling Bank Plc, Lagos Island, has been arrested for allegedly hacking the bank's database and fraudulently withdrawing the sum of N53.6 million naira from the accounts of two customers of the bank.
The police at Lion Building Division, Campbell Street, Lagos Island, who arrested the suspect alleged that Kehinde conspired with three others now at large to hack into the system of the bank a few days after he completed his one year service with the bank and withdrew the sum of N49.1m from one account and N4.5m from another account and escaped.
Kehinde was arrested after the management of the bank reported the money stolen.

According to PM News, a police team led by Inspector Elegbede Oluranti, after one year of manhunt for the suspected scammers, tracked down Kehinde Lateef at his residence on Ishawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, and arrested him, while others escaped.
Lateef was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates' Court, Lagos on a three-count charge of felony, after due investigation. 
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Chief Magistrate A. O. Awogboro admitted the accused on bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
Awogboro adjourned the case till 6 May, 2015, while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prison till he's able to fulfil the bail conditions.

The Ondo State Government has banned the consumption of locally-made gin, commonly called `ogogoro` in the state.‎

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Akinyanju, announced this at a news conference in Akure on Saturtay.
The commissioner attributed the ban to the outbreak of an unknown disease two weeks ago in Irele Local Government Area of the state.
"Our clinical analysis reveals the fact that there were no known viruses, while toxicology reports have confirmed our prime suspicion of methanol poisoning.
"We have reviewed our strategies and embarked on sensitisation to let people know that locally-made gin is prohibited.
"We will also embark on searches because this batch of methanol-containing gin must have gone round because four cases: two alive and two dead have been found in Odigbo Local Government Area," he said.
Akinyanju said that stakeholders such as religious leaders, transporters, youths, market women, and the relevant association would be informed of the development.
He said, "We will start with the entire South Senatorial District, then move to the Central Senatorial District.
According to the commissioner, the unknown disease has so far claimed 23 lives with ten other people receiving treatment.
"Two of them have regained their sights and are back home.
"We appeal to the general public to desist from drinking the gin until we are able to identify the source of contamination or find out how the methanol got into the drinks," he said.
The commissioner said that the state government was working closely with the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control and the National Orientation Agency to sensitize members of the public to the dangers of consuming such drinks.
