The All Progressives Congress following a primary election on Saturday has picked Senator Ahmed Lawan and Senator George Akume as sole candidates for the position of President and Deputy Senate President of the 8th Senate respectively.
The primary election which was conducted by the National Working Committee of the APC at the International Conference Centre, Abuja was boycotted by Lawan's opponent Senator Bukola Saraki.
National Secretary of the Party, Mala Buni, who served as returning officer announced that 33 Senators were accredited to vote after which Lawan got 32 votes and one vote was declared invalid.
Both Lawan and Saraki groups had early on Saturday signed an agreement to abide by the outcome of the party's primaries.
But Saraki's group, which boasted of 65 senators across party lines, in a statement vowed to participate only in the constitutional election scheduled for Tuesday when the Ninth Senate would be inaugurated.
It said this was in line with the rules of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In an election held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Saturday night, Lawan scored 32 votes, while Senator George Akume got 31 to emerge as Deputy Senate President candidate.
In a statement by Senators-elect of Like Minds, the group backing Saraki's Senate presidency candidacy, it decried the primaries by the APC.
It said: "We the Senators elect of Like Minds hereby insist on our position of Open Secret voting process which we believe is in consonance with the provisions of the electoral act, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the universal electoral values.
"As responsible citizens of Federal Republic of Nigeria, and leaders in our own right, we have resolved and hereby state that we shall not be part of a process that promotes undemocratic electoral process that may resort to rancorous and uncivil situations which inhibits the rights of individuals to vote for the candidate of their choice, as this process will further divide us than unite members of our party.
"In conclusion we the Senators-Elect of Like Minds wish to state categorically that we will participate only in the constitutional election scheduled for Tuesday, the 9th of June 2015 in line with the rules of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
"We by this press release invite the media to a joint press conference by the 65 Senators-Elect of Like Minds drawn from across party lines on Monday morning, the 8th of June 2015."
It was gathered that Saraki has continued pursuing the alliance across party lines to emerge the Senate president.
That alliance is said to be premised on support from the People's Democratic Party, which has the second largest representative in the Senate.
He is said to have wooed a lot of members of the PDP, the platform on which he served as governor of Kwara State for eight years and was also elected senator for his first four years in the National Assembly.

Damilola Adegbite, is a stunning beauty that bedazzled the movie world with her alluring sensuality that came from not showing too much, thus keeping many a hapless fellows at her mercy. When she married her movie star heart-throb, Chris Attoh, many hearts were as broken as they were glad for her.
For many who wanted to see more of her as a single girl, the marriage came as a block to their world of fantasies. But Damilola and husband seem to have thrown them a lifeline when the couple brought in the open what they do in their bedroom. The couple posed for a magazine shot, acting out a sensual bedroom scene.
It is the cover of the 5th edition of Blanck, a digital Pan-African fashion and lifestyle magazine that showcases some of the best Africa has to offer in fashion, entertainment and culture.
Damilola Adegbite showed off skin  in bed with her husband in lingerie (full on garter!) while her husband, Chris Attoh was shirtless showing off his buff body behind her. The bold cover was intense, s3xy and different.

Really? APC Says Nigeria Cannot Fght Boko Haram ALONE

The All Progressives Congress has said Nigerian security forces cannot fight Boko Haram insurgents alone.
The APC said President Muhammadu Buhari should be praised for his "shuttle diplomacy" aimed at forging a stronger regional front against Boko Haram insurgency rather than be criticised for his efforts.
The President had visited Niger and Chad last week to seek the support of the neighbouring countries in the war against terrorism.
In a statement issued on Saturday by APC's National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lai Mohammed, the party stated that the insurgency, which started off as a Nigerian problem, had assumed a regional dilemma affecting more West African countries.
Therefore, the party said any solution to the crisis, if it was to endure, must be regional in nature, with Nigeria taking the lead. It added that since terrorism had become a global dimension, no nation, including the United States of America, could fight the growing menace alone.
"This is why even in our days in opposition, we advocated a regional solution to the crisis," the APC said.
According to the statement, Buhari's trip to Niger and Chad, two of the countries worst-hit by the Boko Haram insurgency, shows that the President understands the regional dimension that the insurgency has assumed, and that for any effort by Nigeria to yield positive results, it must seek the cooperation of its neighbouring countries.
It urged Buhari not to relent in his efforts to forge a regional front against the terrorists, despite the "misguided criticism emanating from certain quarters."
The statement further read, "It is baffling that some opposition politicians wanted Nigeria to go it alone against Boko Haram, even as the terrorist group has taken its battle beyond the shores of Nigeria, to such countries as Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
"It is common knowledge that the terrorists use these countries as launch pads for their attacks against Nigeria, and vice versa, and that they routinely engage in cross-boundary raids.
"Also, Boko Haram's tentacles have spread as far as Mali, the home base of the Movement for the Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), a splinter group of the Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.
"It is no longer a secret that Boko Haram has now affiliated itself to the Islamic State, seeing itself as the West African chapter of the terror group. How then can Nigeria effectively deal with Boko Haram without seeking the assistance of other concerned countries?"
The party reminded the critics of Buhari's call for foreign intervention that even the United States sought and had continued to seek a global coalition against Al-Qaida and IS, despite the country's enormous military, economic and political powers.

LMAO! New Governor Spent The Last One Week Thanking Predecessor, Thanksgiving

Tension built up in Enugu State, yesterday, over the delay in the appointment of key government officers by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, seven days into his administration.
This came even as the governor spent his first one week in office on thanksgiving and thank you visits to former Governor Sullivan Chime at his country home,Udi.
All the states in the South-East where new governors took over the reins of power have named key officers and  hit the ground running.
Lamenting the development, the All Progressives Congress, APC,Chairman,Enugu State Chapter, Mr. Ben Nwoye, said "that is expected when you vote in a governor without plans, especially when you are imposed".‎
Nwoye continued: "It is the reason one week after the administration has been expended on thank you visits to the former governor. It is a case of thank you deserving another, symptomatic of sycophants.
"Prior to his inauguration,he has never granted interview to showcase what he has in stock. So,he owes nobody any obligation. That is what you get when the principles of internal democracy is jettisoned on the altar of god fatherism.
An Enugu based lawyer,Mr. Ray Nnaji, regretted that "this is a surprise".  Nnaji added: "Ugwuanyi's visit to some areas showed that he is making use of officers in the former administration. This means he is seeing himself as an appendage to the former governor.
"It is a big disappointment one week into an administration. People are yearning for a change in the system. What it means is that their trip to China was to reach an agreement on how Ugwuanyi's administration will be run.
"Nobody is against him if he accommodates the good side of the previous administration, but, from what is happening now, he is boxed into a corner. The electorate in Enugu State are not patient enough to go through this vicious circle.
"We voted for change in the scheme of things and we are yet to see that. The idea of continuity should not mean continuing with things that are bad or a continuation of Chime's administration."
