Must Read! Bra mistakes and how to fix it

Can you imagine that 80% of women fail in choosing the right bra?
From buying a bra to matching it with your outfit – this seems a very big problem for most of women. Admit it, it’s almost impossible to find the one that fits, supports and perfectly separates.
If your bra fits incorrectly, it makes you feel extremely uncomfortable. Wearing the wrong size bra will limit what you can wear while a good fitting bra will make your outfit look better.
These essential tips will help you make your bra shopping easier.

This picture will help you to understand if everything is OK with your bra. The band should not ride up your back. It shouldn’t be higher than the underwire and lay horizontal across your back. If it is, try a smaller bra size.
The band should be snug around your rib cage but not too tight. You must realize that it can stretch a bit later, about three inches in its lifetime. So buying a bra with a bigger band size makes no sense.

14-Year Old Boy Jailed In Kano...for killing step-mother's chicken

A 14-year-old boy has spent five months in a Kano remand home for allegedly killing a chicken belonging to his step-mother, Weekly Trust has gathered.

The boy (name withheld) had a dispute with his step-mum in Wudil local government area of Kano State five months ago, a legal counsel Audu Bulama Bukarti, said.

"He was taken to the police station by the step-mum over her chicken and when efforts by the police to settle them yielded no result, the case was transferred to court," he added.

Bukarti said as a result of the dispute the boy has spent five months at the Goron Dutse remand home. In a letter addressed to the commissioner of justice, Bukarti said more than 70 percent of the 65 inmates at the home are being held over minor offences.

He said during his visit to the remand home he spoke with many of the inmates and that their condition is deplorable as they are not well-fed.

When contacted, the state commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Dr. Binta Tijjani Jibril, said the allegation was baseless because according to her, food is supplied to the home on a quarterly basis and the inmates are fed thrice daily.

Lobatan! 16-Year Old Girl Pours Acid On Boyfriend's Manh••d...because he cheated

A 16-year- old lover girl, identified as Maureen (surname withheld) in Emede Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State at the weekend, allegedly bathed her boyfriend with acid for cheating on her in the last three months of their relationship.

Reports said the girl, now in the police net in the community, upon interrogation by the police confessed to the crime, saying that her boyfriend violated the oath they took together.

It was reliably gathered that the victim was caught while making love to another girl right in a hotel within the community, a situation, when the suspect was informed about it, raced to the hotel where she attacked him with acid water.

DSP Celestina Kalu, police public relations officer in the state, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the suspect claimed she was angered by the violation of their oath by the victim.

"I was determined to teach my boyfriend a lesson. So I went into my father's car park where I picked an acid water to teach him a bitter lesson," he said.

Sources said the acid water was allegedly poured on the victim's penis, a situation that may render him impotent. But DSP Kalu said the victim was admitted into a private hospital where he is currently being treated, adding that the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.

President Jonathan In Trouble! Faces Fresh Disqualification Huddle

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court has ordered that court documents in a fresh suit seeking to disqualify President Goodluck Jonathan from seeking re-election in the March 28 poll should be served on him.

The court said the papers should either be served on the president through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, or the Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.

The suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/1112/2015, instituted by Nkemjika Nkemjika was assigned to the court of Friday. The defendants in the suit apart from Mr. Jonathan are his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

A separate suit had earlier been filed seeking Mr. Jonathan disqualification from the presidential race before the court and another is also pending at the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Nkemjika had in his ex parte application said the court's document could not be served directly on the president because he lives in the Aso Rock Villa, which is fortified.

He had asked the court to determine whether, having regard to the provisions of sections 135(1) (b) and 135(2) (b) of the Constitution, the president was qualified to contest the presidential election.

He contended that Mr. Jonathan's second term in office would end on May 29, because Section 135(2) (b) of the 1999 Constitution (amended) does not envisage that the vice president should complete the unexpired tenure of office or unexpired term of office of a deceased President.

According to him, the president should be qualified to contest the 2015 presidential poll if he had won an election supervised by the Senate President in 2010 in accordance with the provision of Section 146(2) of the Constitution.

Section 146(2) provides that: "Where any vacancy occurs in the circumstances mentioned in sub-section 1 of this section during a period when the office of the Vice-President is also vacant, the President of the Senate shall hold the office of the President for a period of not more than three months, during which there shall be an election of a new President, who shall hold office for the unexpired term of office of the last holder of the office."

Mr. Nkemjika asked the court to remove Mr. Jonathan's as the presidential candidate of PDP in view of the provision of Section 135(1)(b) of the Constitution, which states: "Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, a person shall hold office of the President until he dies whilst holding such office."

The judge subsequently adjourned the suit to February 26.

Harvard Bans Students From Dating Their Professors

Harvard University has introduced a total ban on relationships between professors and students.
Staff said they introduced the ban after considering how "power dynamics can contribute to sexual harassment".

Harvard's previous ban on staff-students affairs only applied if couples were in the same class.

A committee which drafted the guidelines concluded the university needed to strengthen its language on "relationships of unequal status".
Harvard University is not the only higher education college in the US to introduce such a ban.

Its rival Yale did so in 2010, as did the University of Connecticut in 2013.
Based in Cambridge near Boston, Harvard has about 2,400 faculty members and about 6,700 undergraduate students

Last May the institution appeared on a US government list of 55 institutions which had allegedly mishandled harassment complaints.

In an email, Alison Johnson, a history professor who led the committee which helped revise the guidelines, told the Associated Press news agency: "We wanted to emphasize that the central characteristic of any relationship between a professor and an undergraduate in the College should be pedagogical."‎

C. Ronaldo In Trouble For Partying After Athletico Loss

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo drew criticism in the changing room by partying for his 30th birthday hours after a 4-0 defeat by rivals Atletico, media reported Monday.

Leading sports daily Marca called the Portuguese striker's birthday bash after Real's Madrid derby defeat in the league on Saturday "The Party of Discord."

"Pictures of the celebration did not go down well with Real Madrid's captains" Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, Marca wrote on Monday.

Ronaldo hosted teammates including second-choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas, defender Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Luka Modric, Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez, who recently returned from injury, newspapers reported.

Participants including Colombian singer Kevin Roldan, who was invited to entertain guests at the party, posted photographs on social networks of Ronaldo and various grinning teammates.

"The online social networks were on fire with fierce criticism from fans," reported Madrid sports newspaper AS.

Disgruntled Twitter users even generated a special hashtag, #lafiestadeladeshonra, or "party of disgrace".

"It was a trending topic all day from 12:00 pm," AS said.

Cristiano's agent Jorge Mendes told Cadena SER radio station on Sunday he himself was "very annoyed" by the photographs.

"When there is an event that is totally private and then you see someone is leaking pictures of it, clearly you get annoyed," Mendes said.

The agent said the player was "gutted at the defeat" — a claim echoed by other figures close to Ronaldo, including Chelsea and former Real manager Jose Mourinho.

"People spent the first two hours of the party encouraging him because he was sad about the defeat," Mendes said.

Co-Producer of @RealSeunKuti’ s “Long Way To The Beginning” Wins 2nd Grammy Award

No comments :

The Co-Producer of Seun Kuti’s latest album “Long Way To The Beginning” Robert Glasper has won his second Grammy Award at the event held over the weekend in Los Angeles.

Robert Glasper’s “Experiment ft. Lalah Hathaway” won the Best Traditional R&B Performance  at the 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

The Jazz pianist performed a similar feat in 2013, when his “Black Radio” took home the prize for R&B album at the 55th Grammy Awards.

Fast raising Afrobeat maestro and Youth Activist, Seun Kuti, took to his instagram page Monday morning to send a congratulatory message to his co-producer.

Seun wrote ” Congratulations to my brethren. @therealrobertglasperand ur lovely manager and beautiful sister@nicolehegeman. Second Grammy award for best traditional r&b. It was fun producing a long way to the beginning with u. Let's do it again.

In June 2014, The New York Times reviewed the co-produced “A Long Way to the Beginning” (Knitting Factory) album as “faster and more insistent” with the demands of Afrobeat as created by Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Seun’s late Father .

“The arrangements (of the songs) have added new layers of dissonance to give the songs more bite. And the underlying call and response of Afrobeat, with terse motifs traded among the band’s percussion, horns, guitars and singers, has turned denser and less symmetrical; now, little overlapping outbursts cascade across the band, like sporadic flash fires,” the paper wrote.

A Night Of Sam Smith! British Singer Win Big At Grammys

The 57th Grammy Awards on Sunday became the night of Sam Smith, the freshman British singer-songwriter who took three of the four top awards, for record, song and new artist.

The runaway success of Smith's career in the span of barely eight months dramatically demonstrated the new world in which music is created, given birth and blossoms at lightning speed thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other creations of the Internet age.

"Stay With Me," Smith's breakthrough hit, was named record and song of the year, a deeply heartfelt plea to a departing lover.‎

What turned into a huge night for the artist came eight months after the release of his debut album, "In the Lonely Hour," which also took the pop vocal album award.

Less than a year ago, Smith was virtually unknown outside his native England, but thanks to the near-instantaneous speed of word-of-mouth through the blogosphere, the album has sold nearly 2 million albums in the U.S. and more than 5 million worldwide, allowing Smith to headline Madison Square Garden in New York in January and fill two nights at the 18,000-capacity Forum in Inglewood just last week.

Did TB Joshuah Really Prophesy Election Postponement?

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Amidst the controversy swirling around the decision by the electoral commission to postpone Nigeria's elections by six weeks, Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua has released a video online with a prophecy he allegedly gave one year ago.

"What I am seeing is heavy. I am seeing rain – the cloud is darker. The fulfillment of 2015 – pray for it," Joshua told congregants on February 9th 2014 in a clip uploaded to YouTube channel 'Emmanuel TV'.

"Is that not the time of elections? Democracy is sweet – pray that your democracy would not be rubbished," he continued.

Clarifying further, the cleric added, "I am seeing disagreement at the end of the day and that disagreement can result to anything. Nigeria, these are the challenges you are going to face – challenges of disagreement… They will want to fight; we have to pray."

The clip concluded with another segment of Joshua addressing his congregation, this time on November 9th 2014. "Pray for your nation," he said. "If you are able to cross this election, you cross it all. The election you are about to do will determine Nigeria."

The elections, which were scheduled to hold on February 14th 2015, have been shifted to 28th March, in a move widely criticized as being 'undemocratic'.

The electoral commission cited security concerns as the reason for the postponement with several areas in the north-east of the country still under the control of Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee will meet on Tuesday February 10 in Abuja to discuss issues relating to the future of the Super Eagles' technical crew among others
pertinent issues.

The Vice Chairman of the NFF's Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh said that the committee has a lot of issues to address but the most pressing of them is the fate of the senior national team handler.

Yusuf hinted that the NFF does not want to join issues with anybody concerning the future of the technical crew headed by Stephen Keshi
whose contract expired at the end of the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil.

"We are going to be having a meeting of the technical committee on Tuesday on February 10 and many far reaching decisions will be
taken regarding the future of the country's football. We will talk about the contract renewal of Stephen Keshi and that of his assistants
among other things.

He also said the committee will take a cursory look at the issue and take a firm stand on it insisting that the body will not be intimidated to
make hasty pronouncement which could put the future of the country's senior national team in jeopardy.

I would support Buhari only if... -Seun Kuti Speaks

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Popular Afrobeat star and Late Fela's son, Seun Kuti told The Nation the reason why he will forgive Buhari even though the Rtd General is in the black book of Fela's family.
Read below what Seun Kuti told The Nation when asked about his PVC and if he will vote:
"No, I don't have my PVC because I decided already long time ago, even before the candidates were chosen, that the election is the politician's elections still. I'm not going to vote. And I've been proven correct. I'm happy that so many people in Nigeria today want to be involved in the democratic process of this country. It is a big development in our democratic development.

And so many people want to also cast protest votes this year protest against how the country has been run by the present administration and I understand. And I support it as well. But the truth about it is that I believe that I am very politically mature. And for me to cast my vote, whoever I vote for has to represent my aspirations. I won't just cast a protest vote in as much as a protest vote is needed in this forthcoming election.
The candidate that is brought forward as well is someone that I believe is not in the good books of the Kuti family. And my family, we're very united in our views about civic responsibility and human rights. And retired General Buhari has trampled on the rights of my family when he jailed my father, illegally for that matter. And Fela was innocent. This is why it would be difficult for me to say I want to vote for Buhari.

Maybe if Buhari wins and becomes president, then I can forgive him if he begins to do to Nigerians what Fela would have liked for Nigerians because maybe if Buhari becomes president and he suddenly becomes pro-people, developing Nigeria from the ground-up, things that I know would have made my father happy, and he brings Nigeria up yeah. Definitely, I would understand that even if Fela were alive and Fela sees Nigeria going forward like this, he would speak in favour of the man. But so far, I can't betray my father based on some promises and some words. So, that is why I'm not voting for him. "

National Assembly Boils Over Election Shift

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Members of the House of Representatives were sharply divided on Sunday over the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to shift the general elections by six weeks, beginning from March 28.
Anger was the word in the camp of the caucus of the All Progressives Congress as they did not only oppose the shift of the elections but also accused INEC of being a puppet in the hands of the Presidency.
The APC caucus also claimed that insecurity as a major excuse given by INEC was a cover-up for the alleged "hidden interests" of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
But, the PDP caucus embraced the postponement and commended INEC for having the courage to "do the right thing by not denying millions of Nigerians their right to vote."
Findings also showed that the PDP caucus was plotting to stop the commission from using its Card Reader for Permanent Voter Cards during the elections.‎
Expressing annoyance over the shift of the polls, House Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, said INEC disappointed Nigerians.

Gbajabiamila said, "A deeper analysis and closer scrutiny reveals a lot more. It reveals perhaps the proverbial hand of Esau and voice of Jacob. A complete about-turn barely 24 hours after INEC said clearly in a presentation to the National Council of State that it was ready says a lot.
"The independence of INEC has been put to question because the sum total of what we heard from INEC now is that its powers to determine election dates have been usurped and the military now determines when we can have elections in this country.
"That is a dangerous precedent. Many questions are raised: Should the military be the ones to provide election security? What exactly then is the role of police in a civil society?
"The role being ascribed to the military for election purposes is ultra vires and unconstitutional. That role belongs to the police and we all know the police are not overstretched in the North-East."
While rejecting the reasons tendered by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, for postponing the election, the APC leader argued that his understanding of the development was the case of a "government in power running away from elections."
However, the PDP House Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, argued that INEC did the right thing by "stopping on time from plunging the country into a major political crisis."

Ogor said that had INEC gone ahead to conduct the poll "with many Nigerians yet to collect their PVCs," the outcome would have continued to haunt the commission and its leadership.
He said, "The main issue here is the PVC. INEC would have denied millions of Nigerians their constitutional right to vote had they proceeded with the elections.
"You cannot tell me that because majority of voters have PVC, then others have become inconsequential. So, why did they register to vote? The majority will have their way, but the minority must still have their say.
"That is the only way we can begin to talk about justice and fairness, else it is a wrong step that will continue to haunt the nation."
House Minority Whip, Mr. Sampson Osagie, kicked against the postponement and expressed doubts on whether there would be any elections on March 28.
"The decision to shift elections is too sad. The elections may never hold after all because the security agencies will never guarantee the security of men and materials.
"This is obviously a PDP-induced decision. I weep for my country Nigeria," Osagie stated in an electronic mail to our correspondent on Sunday.

Chairman, House Committee on Electoral Matters, Mr. Jerry Manwe, said it was unlikely that President Goodluck Jonathan influenced the decision of INEC.
Manwe, who incidentally, is a member of the Social Democratic Party, noted that INEC became helpless soon after security reports did not support the conduct of the poll.
The lawmaker, who is from Taraba State, said Nigerians kicking against the postponement needed to visit the North-East to really appreciate what the people of the zone faced daily.
He said, "Insecurity is the key issue; I am sure if people are to die because they have to vote, that is more serious than the elections.
"The National Security Adviser and the service chiefs are in a position to know the security situation of the North-East. The North-East is in trouble and you have to be there to appreciate what is happening.
"Jonathan is not the issue; he didn't influence INEC because up till yesterday (Saturday), he was busy campaigning, which means that he expected that the elections would still be held on February 14th as earlier fixed."

House spokesman, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, accused the Presidency of allegedly "manipulating INEC" to play a prepared script.

Mohammed, who warned against the consequences of using the "military for political reasons", added that the PDP-led Federal Government was merely "postponing the evil day."
He said, "It appears some persons have other interests other than the overall interest of Nigeria.
"What they have done is to politicise the military to use insecurity as their reason for shifting the polls.
"However, they are merely shifting the evil day; very soon, the chickens will come home to roost and we will see who laughs last."

Meanwhile, there were indications on Sunday that PDP lawmakers were against the introduction of card readers by INEC.
Ogor confirmed to The PUNCH that several motions on the elections would be brought to the floor by members as from February 17.
He said, "INEC has not tested the card reader in any previous election to know whether it is reliable or not.
"Why use the presidential and National Assembly polls as the guinea pig for the card reader? Do they want to mess up the elections?
"We are coming to discuss it on the floor and there are a whole lot of issues surrounding this postponement to be resolved."

APC, PDP Clash Turns Bloody In Lagos...one reported dead

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Loyalists of the All Progressives Congress clashed with some members of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Jakande, Lekki area of Lagos State, leaving one dead, while many others were injured.

There were, however, different versions to the cause of the clash which occurred on Saturday.

A resident, Johnson Idowu, told our correspondent that the fight started when some PDP members, who were on a campaign rally, had a low turnout.

He said the group took offence when they were hailed by another group of people who were members of the opposition party.

He said, "The PDP was having a rally on Saturday around Jakande. But they had a low turnout. While they marched around the area, they saw another group cheering them up, which they took for mockery.

"That was how they took offence and attacked the crowd. The fight was very intense and in the end, the PDP group lost a member while some APC members were also injured in the fracas."

However, another resident, Tosin Adeda, explained that the fight started after some people tried to stop members of the APC from destroying billboards and posters belonging to the PDP.

He said there was sporadic shooting as gunfire rent the air, with residents scurrying for safety.

Some motorists, who were caught in the fray, were said to have abandoned their vehicles and fled the area.

He said, "APC were the ones defacing the PDP adverts which infuriated the PDP members. In a matter of minutes, there was mayhem.

"The roads immediately turned into a chaotic scene. The party supporters got injured in the fracas; one died and was carried away. Police came around and pleaded with them. Soldiers also came around much later to enforce law and order."

A motorist, who did not identify himself on a social media platform, Nairaland, said he was among those who abandoned their vehicles and fled while the mayhem lasted.

He said, "I was among those who left their cars on the road and ran for dear life. In fact, I was face-to-face with one of the thugs with AK-47 around the Jakande bus stop. It was not a funny experience. But I thank God for saving my life."

When contacted, the spokesperson for the PDP in Lagos, Gani Taofik, did not respond to a text message sent to his phone and did not pick his calls.

The APC spokesperson for Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, said clashes between members of the APC and the PDP had to do with the attitude of the PDP in the state.

He said, "We have addressed the matter already and it has something to do with the attitude of the PDP supporters tearing posters and using the police to perpetrate other illegalities. An instance is what is happening at the tollgate, where they have a group of people with police protecting them."

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, but denied that anybody died.

He said, "There was a skirmish between the supporters of the two parties, and six people were injured. They have made statements to the police. No arrest has been made for now, but efforts are on to apprehend the hoodlums behind the clash. Normalcy has been restored in the area. And we have no record of death."

Tragedy occurred once again along the ever-busy Ilesa-Ife Expressway on Sunday as 17 persons were killed in an auto crash involving a Toyota Sienna space bus and a Toyota Hiace bus.

Our correspondent learnt that the accident which happened at about 4.15 pm claimed the lives of the occupants of the commercial bus and the Sienna.

An eyewitnesses told our correspondent that some road users who saw how mangled bodies of the seven kids and 10 other casualties of the accident were brought out from the wreckage of the vehicles could not hold back their tears.

One of the volunteers who was at the scene, Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, told our correspondent that the accident was caused by the driver of the Toyota Hiace who left his lane and collided with the Sienna space bus going to Lagos.

Odeyemi said that he gathered that the Sienna bus left Abuja on Sunday morning for Lagos and was about getting to Ife when the Toyota Hiace collided with it.

He said, "The accident is terrible. The occupants were obviously coming from a ceremony. There was a bag of rice and other items which suggest this.

"Seven children and 10 adults died on the spot.

"Other passengers who were held in a traffic snarl were just weeping. It was a gory sight. The corpses of the kids evoke emotion and those who saw the accident said the Toyota Hiace left its lane and drove against traffic.

"The driver of the Hiace bus was obviously the cause of the accident. It is unfortunate that he just wasted other people's lives due to his own recklessness."

Another eyewitness said that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and policemen arrived the scene promptly to carry out rescue mission.

He said that those injured were taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife for treatment.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Osun State, Mr. Mohammed Hussein, when contacted by our correspondent on the telephone, said that he had instructed officials from all neighbouring FRSC commands to move to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts.

He promised to call back to give the number of casualties and how the accident happened. However, subsequent calls were interrupted by poor network signal.

It will be recalled that no fewer than seven people lost their lives in an accident which occurred at Ileri Junction along Ilesa/ Ife Expressway in Ilesa on October 17, 2014.

The accident was also caused by reckless driving

The Academic Staff Union of Universities is poised for war against the Chairman of the Osun State University Governing Council, Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin, over the suspension of the institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Basir Okesina.

Olawoyin had accused Okesina, the bursar and the registrar of UNIOSUN of fraud and nepotism and subsequently suspended the three based on these allegations.

But the National President of ASUU, Prof. Nasir Fagge, in an address read on his behalf by the Chairman of ASUU, Ibadan Zone, Prof. Segun Ajiboye, at a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday, called for the reversal of the VC's suspension.

The national leadership of ASUU also accused Olawoyin of victimising lecturers in the university and union vowed to protect its members from harassment and intimidation.

The union condemned the setting up of an investigative panel by the chairman of the UNIOSUN governing council to probe those who he accused of impropriety, saying it was unnecessary because the Visitor to the university, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, had already constituted a visitation panel to probe activities in the university.

National Treasurer of ASUU, Dr. Ademola Aremu, also called on Aregbesola to pay workers of the university their outstanding salaries. He said it was not good for lecturers to be owed two months salaries.

Olawoyin declined comment when he was contacted on the telephone by our correspondent.

"I am not interested in any newspaper interview. I won't discuss UNIOSUN on the pages of newspapers. If they feel they have been wronged, they know what to do," he said.

Okesina confirmed his suspension to our correspondent on the telephone.

He said, "The chairman of council wrote a petition to the governor against me. He called council meeting where he discussed it and he is the one investigating the allegations. The same man is doing everything, you can imagine that.

"He signed my letter of suspension; it was supposed to be signed by the secretary to the council. He appointed an acting vice chancellor, appointed acting bursar and acting registrar and has taken over the running of the university."

Ivory Coast emerged the new African champions on Sunday night after they defeated the Black Stars of Ghana in the final match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. They won the match played in Bata, Equatorial Guinea 9-8 on penalties in a repeat of the 1992 AFCON final as the game remained goalless after the extra time.

Goalkeeper Boubacar Barry scored the last of the penalties to give the Elephants their second title as they replaced Nigeria as African champions at the Estadio de Bata after two previous attempts in the finals. The Elephants lost to Egypt 4-2 on penalties in Egypt 2006 and also lost 8-7 to Zambia in the 2012 edition co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Ghana were seeking their fifth title while the Ivorians were seeking their second. The Elephants had defeated the Black Stars 11-10 in penalties to win their first title in 1992 with African legend Abedi Pele Ayew as the Ghanaian captain. On Sunday he had two of his children losing again to the Ivorians. Abedi though missed that final clash after he got a second yellow card in the semi final.

Elephants' coach, Herve Renard, also on Sunday became the first coach to win the trophy with two different countries having done same with Zambia in 2012.Sunday night was the 10th time the AFCON would be decided through penalty shoot outs.

The finale was also the first time in the history of the tournament, two families played in the AFCON final as the Toure brothers — Kolo and Yaya — played against the Ayew brothers of Andre and Jordan.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan returned to the starting line-up in place of Jordan Ayew after responding quickly to medical treatment to a hip injury. He was hurt in a collision with Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara in the quarterfinals and was only on the bench for his side's semi-final. Ivory Coast were without midfielder Cheick Tiote, who has yet to recover from an ankle injury and veteran Barry replaced injured Sylvain Gbohouo in goal.

The match between the two West African giants initially didn't measure up to the expected explosive encounter but improved towards the latter part of the match.

The Ghanaians neutralised the efforts of the current African Footballer of the Year, Yaya Toure, Wilfred Bony and Gervinho in the Ivorian attack while the attacking duo of Gyan and Andre Ayew were also nullified by the Black Stars' defence.

It grew into an end to end affair but a moment of brilliance came from Everton midfielder, Christian Atsu, in the 25th minute when he saw his shot from 25 yards hit the upright.

In the extra time, both sides wasted chances after chances as the Ghanaians brought in Jordan Ayew and this yielded more attack on the Ivorian defence while Renard brought in Salomon Kalou as the game headed to for the dreaded penalty shootouts.
