Reigning African queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare, has expressed sadness over the use of her image and footage by a body said to be working for a presidential candidate without her consent.

In an advertorial, which she said had been running on various electronic media in Nigeria, the athlete said it was 'selfish and disrespectful' for anyone to intrude into her privacy by using her image, footage for a presidential campaign without seeking her approval.

Okagbare, who spoke from her base in Los Angeles, USA, yesterday said her attention was drawn to the advertorial by friends and relatives in Nigeria about two months ago, adding: "I just wanted to be patient at first, but my agent is not happy because he thinks I am a woman and very far from home too.‎
"Someone out there is using my image, footage and everything I have worked for to make money through advert and campaign without seeking my approval. If an advert is being made with my footage and I am not aware of it, it shows how some of my country men back home can be so selfish, disrespectful and have no regard for people's privacy."

After ruling both the Commonwealth Games and the African Athletics Championship, where she won three gold medals last year, the multi-talented Okagbare took a month off her training in October for her wedding, which took place in her home town, Sapele, Delta State.

Two years ago, Okagbare had lamented during the All Nigerian Open Championship in Calabar that Nigeria was not doing much to support her career, saying that the only support she got was from Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan.
"Now, I am here struggling on my own to pay my coach, nutritionist, doctor and others to make sure I am in good shape for the All Africa Games and the IAAF World Championship in Beijing, China, later in the year, and some people back home are using my image and footage for presidential campaign advertorial without seeking my approval.
"This is fraudulent because I am totally not in support of it. We called the people and they denied using my image and footage for a presidential advertorial. Who did it then? Why are they lying?" Okagbare queried.

6,885 For Graduation As LASU Gets Set For 20th Convocation

Add BBN on 2BAFB965‎‎
Authorities of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Thursday said that 6, 885 graduates would take part in its 20th convocation, scheduled for March 19 to March 20.

The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. John Obafunwa, said at a media briefing in Lagos ahead of the convocation that the part time programmes had 2,814 graduates, while the full time programmes had 4,071 graduates.

He said that the university would also award 48 diplomas during the convocation.

Obafunwa said the institution had six first class graduates as well as 1, 000 graduates in the second class upper division in the various departments, faculties, colleges and schools of the university.‎
"All the graduates have been thoroughly trained, nurtured and tutored both in learning and character, as required by the global academic practices and standards," he said.

The don said there would not be award of honorary doctorate degree at the event, the fourth consecutive convocation under his administration.
"The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to LASU, Mr Babatunde Fashola, in agreement with the university Governing Council, suspended the award of honorary degrees at convocations a few years ago.
"We only hope that by the next convocation, names of individuals who merit the institution's award of honorary degree will be compiled and honoured.
"This, we believe, will buttress the appreciation of the university to deserving individuals, as well as lend credence to the continuous celebration of academic and managerial excellence in the university," he said.

Obafunwa said the current administration, in line with global academic culture, had established tradition of conducting convocation annually.

He said that the 20th convocation would be more historic than the previous ones, as it would be the last to be witnessed by Fashola, in his capacity as governor of Lagos State.

The VC said the event would also be celebrated with mixed feelings, because of the recent loss of the university Chancellor, Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas on Feb. 2.
"The late chancellor was looking forward to celebrating the 20th convocation with us before the cold hands of death snatched him away.
"The university community can only hope that the wide vacuum created by his glorious departure be filled in the course of time," Obafunwa said.

According to him, the Examination and Record Unit, and the Certificate Unit have been ordered to prepare the certificates of the graduates, to be issued to them at the ceremony.

He urged governments at all levels, multinationals, corporate organisations, parents and guardians, well-wishers and well-meaning Nigerians to continue to support the university in donations and by sponsoring scholarship programmes.

She said it was at that time Kareem opened up to her that he impregnated the deceased and she became ashamed and had to pack her property and leave.

She also told the court that apart from the shameful act of impregnating an insane woman , her hubby had been exhibiting strange behaviour towards her and their children and did not take care of them.

SAD! Bus Conductor Burnt To Death In Lagos Car Crash

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965‎‎
A bus conductor was on Thursday burnt to death after an auto crash on the Odo Iya Alaro flyover in the Maryland area of Lagos State.

Textile materials in the vehicle were also burnt in the accident which was said to have happened around 4am.

The commercial bus, with registration number, Lagos XW 350 AKD, was said to have had a burst tyre during its journey towards the Ikorodu area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt from an eyewitness that there were four people in the vehicle ─ two men, who were presumably conveying the textile wares to the market, the conductor and driver.

The witness, Idowu Kuba, said immediately the tyre burst and the vehicle lost control, the two passengers quickly jumped out of the bus, while the driver also escaped. The conductor was, however, not lucky as he was pinned down by the bus.

She said, "The accident happened around 4am. There were four people in the bus, two young men, who wore jerseys, the driver and the conductor.‎
"They were heading towards Ikorodu with some textile materials in the boot when they had the accident. Three people jumped out of the vehicle, but the conductor was trapped and the driver started shouting for help.
"But other vehicles did not move near it. They all maintained a distance and before anyone knew it, the bus caught fire."

Another witness, who pleaded anonymity because of the state civil service rule, told our correspondent that the vehicle burnt for more than one hour before firemen were alerted.
"They responded very quickly, but unfortunately, the man had been burnt to death," he added.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, he saw a bundle of burnt clothing materials on the road.

It was learnt that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the police were on ground.

The Public Relations Officer of LASTMA, Bola Ajao, said the accident was due to high speeding by the driver.

She said, "The driver was speeding and when the vehicle had a burst tyre, the vehicle almost fell off the flyover, but the driver managed to climb the kerb.
"That was why the vehicle was tilted towards the side of the conductor who was then pinned to the ground.
"Shortly after, petrol spilled on the ground and the vehicle went up in flames. The conductor was burnt to death."

She said LASTMA towed the bus to its office at Oshodi to ease traffic on the road.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said firemen from the Ilupeju and Isolo divisions responded to the emergency.

He advised residents to always safeguard their lives and never hesitate to disembark a vehicle if the driver was speeding.
He said, "It was a self-caused accident that could have been avoided if the man was not speeding. When we heard, we deployed our men from the Ilupeju fire station, before asking those from the Isolo division to join them.
"If a driver is speeding and you ask him to slow down, but he fails to heed your warning, just disembark at the next bus stop."
He said the victim's corpse was handed over to policemen from the Ogudu Police Division.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, when contacted, promised to get back to our correspondent, but he had yet to do so as of press time.

However, our correspondent gathered that the family of the victim brought a bus in which they took his remains, shortly after the incident.

Speculations are rife that Nigeria has brought in hundreds of mercenaries from Eastern Europe to boost the ongoing war against Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

According to Reuters, Eastern European mercenaries have teamed up with their counterparts from South-Africa and Nigerian soldiers in fighting the insurgents

Reuters' report stated that rumours about the use of foreign mercenaries against Boko Haram increased early in the month "when pictures surfaced on Twitter" showing Armoured Personnel Carriers vehicles on a street in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The image which appeared on Twitter on March 6, showed a white man clad in a khaki, a tee-shirt and body armour.

He was standing beside a heavy-calibre machine gun on top of one of the sand-coloured APCs as the column drove through the streets at dusk.

Meanwhile, according to Punch newspapers, security and diplomatic sources said the number of the mercenaries was much more than the hundred or so previously reported.

Punch's report quoted the West African security source as saying that the foreign fighters were being paid around $400 a day, while a South African defence contractor was said to have confirmed that South African company leaders were involved in the deployment of the mercenaries.

Former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has dismissed rumours that he collapsed at the venue of the Labour Party National Executive Committee meeting in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Alao-Akala, in a statement by his media aide, Oludare Ogunlana, on Thursday, described the rumour as the handiwork of "detractors who were not comfortable his popularity."

The statement also said that the Alao-Akala Campaign Organisation had succeeded in tracing the true owners of the website which published the report.

It read, "Based on a false report which emerged online that Alao-Akala had collapsed at the venue of the LP National Executive Committee meeting in Ibadan on Wednesday and was rushed to the hospital, we blame the opposition parties for the publication.‎
"It is not true that Alao-Akala is battling any form of ailment or that he collapsed at the meeting as reported by an online publication outfit. We challenge the publisher of the news medium to come out openly if the news was true. Why didn't other journalists who were at the venue get the news?
"The Nigerian Guild of Editors should look into the issue of unregistered news media that spread lies in order to please certain political parties for pecuniary interest."

Ogunlana also called on the people of the state not to be swayed by the antics of those who were against the aspiration of the former governor, saying that Alao-Akala's government could not be compared with those that succeeded it.

A desperate single mother said she inserted parcels of heroin into her private part and ingested others because she needed money to pay her house rent and pay her kid's school fees.

The 31-year-old lady, Aladi Onyinye Juliet, who was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirate flight, said she took to drug trafficking to settle her bills. Juliet said some Pakistanis gave the drugs to her.

The suspect said she established link with some Pakistani drug traffickers who sponsored her trip in collaboration with some local accomplices. Juliet added: "I'm a single mother and I need money to take care of myself and child. I used to sell clothes but the profit is inadequate to sustain my family.

I would have earned half a million naira to pay for my rent and my child's school fees if I had succeeded in bringing the drug. They paid for my return ticket and hotel accommodation.

While in my hotel room, a Pakistani woman came to give me the drug. She also instructed me to conceal it in my private part to avoid arrest. Unfortunately, the NDLEA officers detected it." Welcome Aboard! ISIS Accepts Boko Haram Pledge Of Allegiance

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965‎‎
Islamic State (IS) has accepted a pledge of allegiance from Nigeria's militant group Boko Haram, according to an audio message.
In the tape, which has not been verified, an IS spokesman says the aim of establishing a caliphate has now been expanded to West Africa.
Last week, Boko Haram posted a message saying it wanted to join ranks with IS.
Boko Haram began a military campaign to impose Islamist rule in northern Nigeria in 2009.
The conflict has since spread to neighbouring states.

In the tape, a man - who describes himself as IS spokesman Mohammed al-Adnani - says: "We announce to you to the good news of the expansion of the caliphate to West Africa because the caliph... has accepted the allegiance of our brothers of the Sunni group for preaching and the jihad."
The spokesman also urges Muslims to join militants in West Africa, rejecting suggestions that Iraqi forces and the US-led coalition have recently had a series of victories against IS in Iraq and Syria.
The audio tape has not been independently verified.
IS aims to establish a caliphate, a state ruled by a single political and religious leader according to Islamic law, or Sharia.
Its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is known to his followers as Caliph Ibrahim.
In the audio message posted on Saturday, the Boko Haram leader purportedly said: "We announce our allegiance to the caliph... and will hear and obey in times of difficulty and prosperity.
"We call on Muslims everywhere to pledge allegiance to the caliph."
IS has forged links with other militant groups across North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
In November, Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi accepted pledges of allegiance from jihadists in Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
IS seized large swathes of Iraq and Syria last year. It still controls the key Iraqi cities of Tikrit and Mosul, despite a major ongoing Iraqi offensive on Tikrit.
IS jihadists have attracted condemnation worldwide for its brutal tactics - including mass killings and the beheadings of soldiers and journalists.

Tinubu Claims President Jonathan Offered To Make Him Vice President Of An Interim Government, Team Jonathan Responds...

No comments :

"These people have become prisoners of their own delusions" -Femi Fani-Kayode

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan wanted him to serve as vice-president in an interim national government.

Tinubu said the offer was targeted at destabilising the opposition party ahead of the general election, saying having rejected it, the president decided to not only blackmail but also assassinate him.
"The PDP and Jonathan presidency had recently tried to fracture the APC by offering Tinubu the position of vice president in an interim government if he would agree to part company with the popular Buhari," read a statement issued by Tinubu's media office on Thursday.
"Once Tinubu rebuffed the offer to participate in the interim scheme, the presidency decided to change tactics. It would no longer try to entice Tinubu with sugar but would now move to silence, and if necessary, neutralise him."

The statement added that the ruling party sees Tinubu as a threat and is ready to go any length to ensure that he does not serve as an obstacle to its bid in emerging victorious at the poll.
"The Jonathan government sees Tinubu as the linchpin of the APC and its successful electoral strategy. They also consider him one of the government's most prolific and able critics due to his long standing and often strident critiques of Jonathan government policies, from economic development to national security," the statement read.
"More to the point, they blame him as the man who is most responsible for placing them in their current electoral quandary. They believe without Tinubu's efforts, the successful merger of the political parties into the APC would not have occurred and they would not be facing possible defeat at the hands of this new party.
"The agenda to tackle Bola Tinubu and weaken his political influence nationwide and to undermine his leadership in south western politics can be said to have gone into the overdrive.
"The first part of the strategy is to dredge previously discredited claims of illicit wealth in hopes of silencing Tinubu or lessening his public image. However, they fear this public relations attack may be too soft as Tinubu has been taken before the ICPC and the case against him dismissed."

But the PDP has debunked the allegation, referring to it as "terrifying hallucination".

Femi Fani-Kayode, director of media and publicity, PDP presidential campaign, said the fear of losing the election has thrown APC into confusion, adding that his party is not interested in having any deal with Tinubu.
"These allegations are baseless and false," he said.
"These people have become prisoners of their own delusions. We are not in the least bit interested in the formation of an interim government and we are even less interested in participating in any contraption in which Bola Tinubu would play any role.
"Whether he, Buhari and their APC like it or not, they will be devastated at the poll and they would suffer a crushing and irreparable defeat.
"The everlasting confusion that would ensue in their camp after suffering this defeat will never be forgotten.
"The truth is this: the dementia in which Tinubu is suffering from has come as a consequence of his numerous sins. He should settle all these issues with God and leave us alone."
