Indian Government on Tuesday in New Delhi ordered a senior police officer in southern India, to proceed on indefinite leave after he was allegedly caught cheating in a law examination.‎
Ramesh Chennitala, Kerala State Home Minister, said TJ Jose, an Inspector General of Police, was found copying answers from pages torn from a textbook during the exam on Monday.
He said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident that he called "shameful" for police and the state.
Jose has denied the charges, and alleged a conspiracy against him.
He admitted that his superiors had called him to explain the incident.

According to a report, in March, more than 1,000 men were arrested in the eastern state of Bihar for using impersonators to take police recruitment tests.
"Same month, more than 300 people, mostly parents, were arrested in the state for helping children cheat and copy answers in school examinations.''

Floyd Mayweather has agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao in a rematch fight in a year's time, according to reports in the United States.‎
The American fighter beat the Filipino on points in a hotly-anticipated fight in Las Vegas at the weekend.
And now Mayweather is said to have told ESPN journalist Stephen A. Smith that we would be willing to fight Pacquiao again - once he recoveres from shoulder surgery to repair a tear in his rotator cuff.
"I will fight him in a year after his surgery," Mayweather is reported to have told Smith in a text message.

The move is something of an about turn for Mayweather, who said after the fight: "My last fight is in September, and then it's time for me to hang it up."
Meanwhile Pacquiao's legal woes continue as he is being sued in US court for allegedly not disclosing his shoulder injury.

Manny Pacquiao To Face $5M Lawsuit For Failing To Report Shoulder Injury Before Bout

No comments :

The chaotic aftermath of the richest fight in boxing history is producing more drama than the fight itself.
On Tuesday, Manny Pacquiao was hit with a $5 million lawsuit by a pair of boxing fans who say that his failure to disclose a shoulder injury before his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. amounts to fraud.
This development comes a day after Francisco Aguilar, the chairman of the Nevada Athletic Commission, said that the state attorney general's office will look into why Pacquiao checked "no" a day before the fight on a commission questionnaire asking if he had a shoulder injury. The boxer could be fined or suspended for failing to make the disclosure.
The fight, which boxing fans had long pined for, was widely viewed as a disappointment. Mayweather (48-0) won a 12-round unanimous decision, but there was little action, especially late in the bout. CompuBox, a firm that calculates statistics for major fights, said that Pacquiao (57-6-2) landed 81 of the 429 punches he threw—less than seven a round. It said that it was the fewest punches that Pacquiao had thrown or landed in any 12-round fight in his career.

Pacquiao's camp has said that the right-shoulder injury hampered the boxer, and that he plans to have surgery for a torn rotator cuff later this year. Pacquiao said that the injury didn't bother him until the fourth round.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in federal court by Nevada residents Staphane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran, seeks damages for anyone who paid for tickets or a pay-per-view package of the event or wagered on the fight. The suit seeks class-action status.
Tom Rank Inc. and two of its promoters, Bob Arum and Todd Deboef, are named in the suit along with Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz. None was available for comment Tuesday. In a statement on Monday, Top Rank said that it sought to get anti-inflammatory medication for Pacquiao hours before the fight, but was denied by the commission.

It is unclear what might have happened had Pacquiao disclosed the injury. Brandon McDonald, attorney for Vanel and Rahbaran, declined to comment.
The suit said that Pacquiao and his promoters "had full knowledge and information that (Pacquiao) had been seriously injured and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff," and that they knew "such injury would severely affect his performance."
The welterweight bout, pitting two of the best-known and most accomplished fighters of this era, was the most lucrative fight in boxing history. The pay-per-view telecast cost $99 in high definition and $89 in standard definition; the face value for tickets started at $1,500.‎

TMZ Reports Floyd Mayweather could lose tens of millions of dollars from his big payday if his baby mama gets her way … because she's just filed a lawsuit claiming he ruined her with lies to save his own a$$.
Josie Harris, who has 3 kids with Floyd, claims he lied through his teeth in an interview with Katie Couric just 2 weeks before the big fight … when he claimed Josie was in a drug-fueled rage and he had to "restrain" her during their infamous 2010 domestic violence incident.
Point of fact … Floyd was convicted of domestic violence and spent two months in jail.
Josie recounts her terror in the lawsuit, explaining how she and Floyd had broken up … but he flew into a jealous rage that night, broke into her home and viciously attacked her while she was sleeping on her couch … and her kids saw part of the beating.
Harris says she is now labeled a drug addict thanks to Mayweather's lies — and was embarrassed and humiliated on a global scale.
Her lawyer, Dan Friedlander, writes in the lawsuit — Floyd's lies to Couric "were knowingly fabricated in order to hype Mayweather's upcoming fight with Pacquiao, to avoid bad press by deflecting responsibility for beating the mother of his children."
Harris wants in excess of $20 million .

Police Charges Driver To Court For Murder Even After Admitting He Didn't Commit The Crime

A Lagos State magistrate, A. O. Komolafe, on Monday criticised the police for arraigning a commercial bus driver, Akorede Hammed, for a murder that his friend was the suspect.

Komolafe said since the Osun State indigene was not the actual culprit for the offence and the real suspect was at large, it was wrong for him to be charged with murder.

The police had on February 28, 2015 in Ikorodu, found a corpse in a Sienna bus owned by one Joseph Emmanuel.

Emmanuel, when queried, said after he bought the vehicle in January, he handed it over to Hammed to use for commercial purpose and deliver N4, 000 daily on the bus.

Our correspondent learnt that a friend in the Ikorodu Park, where Hammed was using the bus, asked him for the permission to use the vehicle to work.

The friend, identified simply as Sunday, was said to have taken the vehicle away without returning it as promised.

The owner of the bus was said to have sighted it on the fateful day around 6pm on Igbe Road, Ikorodu, where it was abandoned.

He reportedly moved near the bus, opened the booth and found the butchered corpse of a young man.

Emmanuel was said to have reported the matter to the police at the Ikorodu Police Division and he was accompanied to the scene by some policemen.

The police subsequently arrested Hammed in February and detained him, pending when the person he gave the vehicle to would be arrested.

However, when there was no breakthrough on the matter, the suspect was arraigned on Monday for the crime.

The offence was said to be punishable under sections 231 and 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.

Explaining why Hammed was arraigned, the Investigating Police Officer from the State Criminal Investigation Department said the police learnt that Sunday and Hammed lived in the same house.

He said, "The accused person before the court is the driver of the bus. He was employed by the owner, Mr. Joseph Emmanuel, and mandated to deliver N4, 000 daily.

"On the fateful day, he gave the bus out to somebody else to drive without the knowledge of the owner. He had driven the bus in the morning before passing it to the person in the evening.

"It was the following day that the bus was found somewhere in Ikorodu; a corpse was in the booth.

"Our investigations showed that he and the person lived together and he could have been an accomplice."

The magistrate was, however, angry at the police, saying their investigations were not thorough.

He said, "How do you say one person has committed an offence and you are arresting somebody else.

"This is a case of murder for which he could be hanged. Will you like to suffer for a crime you did not commit?

"This is one of the problems I have with the police because you don't do your job well before bringing people to court."

The absence of the complainant, who was the owner of the bus, also angered the magistrate.

He called for the case file and after perusing it, ordered that the charge be re-read to the defendant and his plea taken.

After the two counts were read, the defendant pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial.

His defence counsel, Ali Abba, asked for his bail in liberal terms.

The police prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth Ekuma, said, "While we recognise the fact that bail is at the discretion of the court, we will be objecting to the defence counsel's application."

Komolafe admitted the driver to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant and should show evidence of tax payment, among other conditions.

"The police should urgently duplicate the case file for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions," he added.

The matter was adjourned till June 8 for legal advice.

Carlos Tevez scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot as Juventus defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final showdown.‎
The Argentine played a major role in game's opening goal, as it was his shot that Iker Casillas spilled at the feet of Alvaro Morata, who tapped home at the back post.
Cristiano Ronaldo headed home an equaliser in the 27th minute to become the Champions League's all-time leading goalscorer but Tevez then bagged the winner just before the hour mark when he converted a penalty that he himself had earned.

SUSPECTED cultists went on rampage Monday evening in Benin, Edo State capital, killing two mothers when they attacked the homes of some of their targets.
This came as a youth leader in the state, Mr. Tony Adun, alias Tony Kabaka, who raised an alarm over the spate of cult-related killings in the state, called on the state government and the state House of Assembly to urgently set up a task force against cultism in the state to check the excesses of the perpetrators.
No fewer than 25 persons, according to him, have been killed by cultists in the state in the past two weeks.
The armed men were said to have stormed Virginia Junction by Murtala Muhammed Way, at about 8pm in search of their target, said to be a 25-year-old boy.‎
They were said to have gone to the store belonging to the mother of their target, but when they queried the woman about the whereabouts of the son, she was said to have told them that she had not set her eyes on him for over two weeks.
The armed men were said to have gone to the residence of the boy and found him at home. They killed him, went back to the woman's shop and shot her dead.
In New Benin area, the gun-men shot their target's  mother as they could not find him.
Over 10 persons have died in the past week in the renewed cult war, to which the police command in the state is yet to find a solution.

What? Grave Discovered Inside Edo Classroom...

There was pandemonium at Iguodala Primary School, in Uhunduhun community of Oredo local government area of Edo State, on Monday, following the discovery of what looked like a grave inside one of the classrooms in the school.‎
The blood-stained grave allegedly discovered by one of the teachers and some pupils of the school shortly after the morning assembly, caused great stir and anxiety.
The pupils were said to have drawn the attention of the acting Head Mistress, Mrs. Georginia Ilongwo to the grave. She subsequently ordered the evacuation of the pupils from the affected classroom, and thereafter alerted officers from the Esigie Police Division.
She described the discovery as shocking, adding that, many parents had prevented their children and ward from going to school on Tuesday due to the fear of contracting infection.
"When I visited the scene, all the teachers were raising alarm and neighbours were trooping into the school compound. We called the attention of inspectors from the ministry, NUT chairman, PTA Chairman and the Odionwere of the community who told us to call the police.
"When the policemen came they said that they would assess the scene today (Tuesday). We were all surprised because since I started teaching here, I have not experienced such thing," Mrs. Ilongwo said.

When journalists visited the school, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt were seen on the floor of the classroom.
Policemen from the Esigie Police Division were also at the scene, some of whom were said to have kept watch‎ from Monday night until an evacuation was carried out by some cemetery staff from local government council at about 11:40 am on Tuesday.
The cemetery staff were instructed by health officials from the council to stop exhumation, after digging three feet into the ground, saying that there was no sign that a corpse had been buried at the site.

Two INEC Officials Nabbed For Stealing Car Reader

No comments :

The Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, has commenced investigations into an alleged attempt by two Information Communication Technology workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abia State to steal sensitive electoral materials, including card readers, from INEC's strongroom in Umuahia.
According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Selina Oko, the suspects attempted to remove seven card readers from INEC office without authorisation.
The REC, in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday in Umuahia, said the suspects did not seek her consent before attempting to remove the sensitive materials, describing the action as illegal and unacceptable.
Oko, who dissociated herself from the action, said she only got to know about it when some police officers from the Zone 9 headquarters came to pick up the suspects at the early hours of Tuesday.
She said, "I only learnt about the incident today. I was told there was a vehicle belonging to one of our staff which had sensitive materials and I found out it was true. Then I asked him, 'Do you mean you leave this place with sensitive materials without my authorisation?'
"So, there was no authorisation to remove materials. In fact, the long and short of it is that I have handed them over to the police."

The REC gave the name of the suspect as Nnamdi Nwabuko.
He added that the police also invited for questioning, the Head of Department of ICT, Mr. Herbert Ejiofor, "since the suspect is working directly under him."
She said the two employees, seven card readers and the Toyota Camry car, belonging to the ICT employee, had been handed over to the police.
The REC said the police, at the gate of the Commission's premises discovered the sensitive materials during a stop-and-search on Monday evening and prevented the car from leaving the INEC office.
Oko added, "Then this morning, police came and picked the car, the materials and, of course, the suspects.
"If they had sought my approval, I wouldn't have approved it because I find it difficult to take away sensitive materials, even myself. The only sensitive material I have authorised to move is when my boss, Professor Attahiru Jega, tells me to send this or that.
"All I did was to go to his car and started asking him why they were doing that. And he said he was going to work with it. And I asked him, 'Without my permission?' But since the police are already involved, I will leave the police to do their work."

Asked whether the suspects were among his trusted staff, the REC said she only assumed duty in Abia in January, 2015 and had not taken time to test the integrity of the members of staff.
The REC said, "Police should investigate and take the right action and if they need information from me, I will provide."
Asked of her feeling on the discovery, she said, "Why won't I condemn it when they are removing sensitive materials without my approval?
"I don't know; it is just that this one was brought to my notice this morning and that is why I allowed the police to take them away."

The REC was further asked whether she did not consider it worrisome that some other sensitive materials, especially result sheets, could be tampered with before the election tribunals commence sitting. She said, "If result sheets are tampered with there will be evidence.
"I am not saying they won't attempt tampering with it, but if it is done, the evidence will show, because even the party agents and police have their copies."
The REC also confirmed an attempt to burn down INEC office in Obingwa Local Government Area last week. She added that the Electoral Officer in the council told her that the arsonists tried to throw fire into the office through the window but the entire office could not be razed.
She noted that the commission's office at Isiala Ngwa South LGA was also burnt down by unknown arsonists shortly after the poll, but added that the Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila, had directed his men to beef up security around INEC offices in the LGAs.

Head of Intelligence and Surveillance of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chief Chidi Ahiabuike, said he gathered from his source that the HOD "conspired with some people to move some materials out from INEC to enable them to perfect their rigging plans."
He alleged that the materials the suspects attempted to take away included result sheets of the controversial Osisioma, Obingwa and Isiala Ngwa North LGAs, whose results were cancelled but later reinstated by the Returning Officer, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba.
He said, "From the information that we got, there is an ICT expert that can manipulate the card readers. They have been working on this for the past one week, according to our surveillance, and they wanted to execute it last night but unfortunately for them, a new police officer, who was deployed in INEC, caught them."

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Mr. Usman Gwarri, confirmed the incident but said investigations were ongoing to establish the real motives of the suspects.
He said, "We will do our investigations and after that we will establish whether any crime was intended to be done."

Army General Dragged To Court Martial For Refusing To Fight Against Boko Haram At Baga

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
The Nigerian military on Monday commenced the court martial of a Brigadier General, Enitan Ransome-Kuti, and four other senior officers, blamed for the loss of Baga in Borno State, to Boko Haram insurgents in January.
Mr. Ransome-Kuti, his Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel G.A. Suru, and some other senior officers, were arrested for failing to repel Boko Haram attack on the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force [MNJTF] in Baga.
Also arrested were the Commanding Officers of the 134 and 174 Battalions — Lieutenant Colonel Haruna and Major Aliyu. The two battalions are under the MNJTF.
Mr. Ransome-Kuti was the commander of the multinational force during the attack.
The commanders were detained shortly after they arrived Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, from Monguno, where they took refuge with troops after being dislodged from Baga.
Military sources disclosed that authorities were especially angry with Mr. Ransome-Kuti for his inability to lead his troop to counter the onslaught in Baga, despite the high calibre weapons and ammunition available to his unit.
After their arrests, the senior officers were held at the officers' mess of the 21 Armoured Brigade, and were asked to account for the weapons lost to the insurgents.
At the trial which took place at the Defence Headquarters garrison in Abuja, on Monday, the officers were represented by counsels from the Femi Falana chambers.
It is understood that the defence team raised concerns that the military high command, led by the Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minimah, may interfere with the process.
According to sources at the trial, the team told the court that Mr. Minimah had made it clear that he wanted the accused officers to be severely punished to serve as a lesson to others who may abandon their duty posts.
The team cited an interview the army chief had with a newspaper two weeks ago, in which he said he set up a court-martial to ensure the officers were dismissed.
"The soldier knows that if he runs away he will be dismissed. So everybody was prepared to stand and fight and die, because if you run back there is nothing. And for the fact that they stood and fought back for hours instead of running caught the Boko Haram by surprise…and terrified them," Mr. Minimah had said in the interview.
The army chief said, "At one point these equipment came in, and with my personal effort of ensuring that officers and soldiers were court-martialed, dismissed for running in the face of adversaries, for abandoning the equipment we have and running away and so forth, the psyche of the Nigerian soldier changed."
The team urged the court to disengage itself because it may be biased, and asked that a new court, made up of officers from the Air Force and Navy, be set up to hear the case.
The defendant's objection was overruled by the court which said it cannot rely on media reports, sources disclosed.
It however promised that the process will be fair and that any officer not found guilty will be set free.
Officials also revealed that as of Tuesday, the accused officers were yet to know what charges were filed against them.
The court-martial is the second involving senior officers in the fight against Boko Haram, as those affected by previous trials since 2014, were mostly non-commissioned personnel, many of who were either sacked or sentenced to death.
In January, 22 top military officers were court martialled at the Ikeja Military Cantonment in Lagos.
The officers included a Brigadier-General – J.O Komolafe; 14 Colonels – A. Laguda, V. Ebhaleme, V.O. Ita, and I.B. Maina, I. A Aboi, I.M Kabir, M.H. Abubakar, A. A. Egbejule, N. N. Orok, C. A. Magaji, A.O. Agwu, A.J.S. Gulani, O.O. Obolo and A.M. Adetuyi; one Major – M.M Idris; five Captains – M Adamu, O. A. Adenaike, M. Gidado, M.M. Clark and S. Raymond and one Second Lieutenant – S.O Olowa.
In December 2014, 54 soldiers were sentenced to death for conspiracy to commit mutiny and mutiny. The Army said the soldiers disobeyed a direct order from their superior officers to take part in an operation. The soldiers however said they only asked for support equipment before embarking on the operation.
Twelve other soldiers had been previously sentenced to death by firing squad for shooting at a car conveying their commanding officer, Ahmed Mohammed, a Major General.
The soldiers revolted after some of their colleagues were ambushed and killed by Boko Haram extremists, an attack they blamed on their superior officer.
Also in December, 2014, over 200 soldiers were sacked after an overnight trial. They had been held in detention for three months and denied communication to their families or legal representation.

On Point! Nike Unveil Samples Of New National Teams Jerseys

American Company Nike has finally released potential kits for the Nigerian National teams after the popular brand signed a 3 years deals with Nigeria Football Federation worth $750,000 in the first year. The value however will increase if the National teams qualify for Global showpieces. The Super Eagles for example will pocket $500,000 in bonuses if they make it to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Former Sponsors, Adidas had earned a reputation over the years for designing "boring kits" for the National sides and many fashion conscious Nigerians had hoped that NIKE wouldn't toll that line. The pictures coming our way from the American Brand show that the boring Jersey days might just have been blow away with the wind of change.
For me, the jersey has been designed to the standard of the Giants of Africa as the West African country is fondly called. With this "sporting kit revolution", I expect the Eagles both super and flying, Eaglets, Falcons and Falconnets to spread out their wings and fly as high they can to bring back the Glory days of complete dominance.

However the inability of NPFL clubs to keep top stars, as well as the inconsistency in the form of players have once again ensured the country does not extend his dominance to the Continental showpiece. It is noteworthy that former Dolphins FC of Port Harcort hitman Emem Edouk lead the line and scored some important goals for new club Esperance of Tunisia on the road to the playoff berth.
