Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomole has expressed his feelings on the issue of religion differences in the 2015 presidential election that it shouldn't be an issue in the country and blamed the politicians of using primordial sentiment as cover up.

He said this in an interview with Channels Television, an electronic news medium, which was aired on the Sunday.

Oshiomole noted that whether a Christian or Muslim-Muslim is going to lead the country shouldn't be Nigerians' burden but how we can create a good nation.

He said, "What is the meaning of Muslim-Muslim ticket? What is Christian-Christian ticket? And if it's an issue, why is it APC issue. The PDP are going to say because they have already adopted candidate even before their convention, so are we expecting Christian-Christian under the PDP platform? Is that an issue for PDP? Why does it matter in Nigeria? You know there are lot of idol people who want use religion as an instrument to invade accountability and that have been the problem of Africa."

"When leaders are beret of ideas, they fall back on primordial sentiment in order to shift themselves from accountability," he added.

The comrade governor also said, "When people steal money they have an idea of covering them up. When they fail in leadership, they make appeal to this sentiment. This is not going to take us anywhere. When nation fail, where Christian and Muslim promised, is it the problem of Nigeria religion? Is not.

"Whether a man goes to heaven or hell, how is that our burden? What is our burden is how can we create a country, then give every Nigerian a basis in leadership, where every young man who goes to school can acquire quality education, in a world that is knowledge breathing, in a digital world. Can we move on beyond primordial sentiment and begin to discuss issues of production, how we can stop importation of petrol and kerosene and repost our refinery back to work. How we can add values to our natural recourses. How we can produce graduates."

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized the idea, saying that the era of Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian ticket had gone.

The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Mr. Yomi Ogunnusi, has said the All Progressives Congress will win next year's presidential election if it fields the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, as its presidential candidate; and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.

Hon Ogunnusi said a former Head of State, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari, should not emerge as the party's presidential candidate but should remain as an elder statesman and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, should not be involved in political administration but also stay on the sideline and play the "Obafemi Awolowo role as leader of the Yoruba."

He said, "In my opinion, Tambuwal should be the presidential candidate of the APC while Amaechi should be the Vice President. Tambuwal is not a tribalist, he knows all of us in the House up to our constituencies."

Seven members of Ekiti State House of Assembly backed by well armed policemen today impeached the speaker of the state house of Assembly, Adewale Omirin.

According to SaharaReporters, the seven persons were escorted into the state assembly complex by Bayelsa-born Mobile Police Commander, Selenkere Michael, to carry out the illegal act.

The police prevented 19 others including the substantive speaker from entering the assembly complex earlier today. One Olugbemi, was purportedly "elected" by the seven-man house as speaker.

It would be recalled that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti had earlier shut down Omirin's petrol station in Ado Ekiti on the grounds that the location flouted environmental laws. The closure was done by the state government. Its agents ordered Omirin to submit his construction approval documents to the state Ministry of Environment.

But Omirin interpreted it as political intimidation and coercion, based on what a renegade member of the house, had told him about Fayose's planned action, because he refused to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said the action will not force him to betray the people that voted him into office, adding that, he would not buckle under undue political pressure to abandon his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party for selfish and pecuniary motives.

Burkina Faso Names 72-Year Old Michel Kafando As New Transitional President

Michel Kafando, new transitional President

Authorities in Burkina Faso named former foreign minister Michel Kafando as transitional president on Monday in a key step towards returning the West African country to democracy in the wake of a brief military takeover.

Kafando was chosen as part of a charter hammered out after long time President Blaise Compaore was toppled on Oct. 31 following mass protests, only to be replaced a day later Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida.

Kafando will name a prime minister to appoint a 25-member government, but will be barred from standing at elections planned for late next year.

"The committee has just designated me to guide temporarily the destiny of our country. This is more than an honour. It's a true mission which I will take with the utmost seriousness," Kafando told journalists and a 23-strong committee.

The committee, drawn from the army, traditional and religious groups, civil society and the political opposition, selected him from among five candidates after a closed-door meeting that began on Sunday and went into the early hours, witnesses said.

The African Union gave Zida two weeks to re-establish civilian rule or face sanctions and on Saturday he restored the constitution suspended when Compaore was overthrown.

Compaore was a regional power broker and a Western ally against Islamist militants, but many opposed his efforts to change the constitution that would have allowed him to stand for re-election next year and extend his 27-year rule.

Kafando, 72, was also ambassador of the former French colony at the United Nations and for one year president of the Security Council, one of several senior posts he held during Compaore's presidency. His candidacy was proposed by the army

The authorities of the Nigerian military have said that the Special Forces have liberated the town of Chibok in Borno State from the control of Boko Haram.

It was stated that the troops had secured the town and had restored normalcy to the area.

Some insurgents, who were fleeing from the military offensive in the Mubi axis of Adamawa State, had moved into Chibok to take control of the embattled town on Thursday night.

The insurgents had earlier abducted over 200 girls, who were sitting for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination at the Government Secondary School, Chibok, on April 14, 2014.

However, the military authorities said in an unsigned statement posted on the official website of the Nigerian military, , that troops had retaken the town since Saturday.

It was stated that the troops carrying out a mop-up operation were in pursuit of fleeing insurgents.

The statement said, "The terrorists who attacked Chibok town early yesterday (Saturday) have been effectively flushed out of the area.

"The subsequent mopping up operation is still ongoing, as troops continue the pursuit of fleeing terrorists and arrest of the wounded.

"Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored and the town is now secured. Further details will follow later please."

Also, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Olajide Laleye, in a telephone conversation with one of our correspondents on Sunday, confirmed that the troops had liberated Chibok by 6.30pm on Saturday.

Laleye recalled the promise of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah, that the Armed Forces would ensure that all territories under the control of the insurgents were liberated.

He said that the Armed Forces were ready to give the expected reassurance to Nigerians that it had the capacity to repeat its recorded exploits in the past and turn the tide against the insurgents.

Investigations, however, revealed that the military authorities had deployed helicopter gunships and a large number of troops at Gombi Local Government Area to contain a surprise turn-out of large number of insurgents in the area after the recapturing of Mubi from them.

"We Would Stop Eagles In Uyo" -Already Qualified South Africa Threatens

Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has quickly dismissed any thoughts of taking it easy against Nigeria in their final group qualifier on Wednesday.
South Africa booked their place in Equatorial Guinea for the 2015 African Nations Cup after a 2-1 win over Sudan at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Bafana are guaranteed top spot in Group A – meaning the result against the Super Eagles is of no consequence for Mashaba's side – but the coach has ruled out any thoughts of losing competitive focus and says there is more at stake.
"I would like to say congratulations to the players, [but] we are still left with one game, against Nigeria," Mashaba said.
"I know people will think it is going to be a walkover; no, we are going to put out our best team. It is more than three points at stake when we go to Nigeria.
"It's going to be another tough game like the one we played today, which many thought was going to be easy. Thanks to all the supporters, their presence helped us conquer."
South Africa have still never beaten Nigeria in a competitive men's senior international match, a record Mashaba is no doubt keen to throw out.
With one eye on next year's Afcon, Mashaba knows the hard work must continue and revealed his mission for the tournament.

THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has granted a two-day extension of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, in six states of the Federation.

"The Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, approved the extension to make up for initial challenges in the exercise and to enable as many eligible persons as possible to get registered.
"The Commission strongly admonishes against persons using the CVR to engage in multiple registration, which is a criminal offence and culprits liable to prosecution," the statement said.

Pathetic! 22Year Old Kills Man For Conspiring To Snatch "The Love Of His Life"

Wasiu Kabiru

At the age of 22, Wasiu Kabiru thought he had it all, especially when he won the love of a woman of his dream, Barakat, whom he described as the most beautiful gift of God in his life. Little did he know that the passion he had for her would destroy his life in the nearest future.

Trouble started barely a year into their marriage, when he discovered that he was about to lose his wife, Barakat to his best friend, Tunji Bello with whom she had been entangled in a secret romance.
Moved by rage caused by a possible loss of his wife to his friend, Wasiu allegedly slaughtered another man simply identified as Segun on the last Eid-el-kabir day (October 4) who he claimed conspired with Tunji to snatch his wife, Barakat.Wasiu in police custody, told Saturday Sun that it was the love that he had for Barakat that made him deadly jealous.
"I could not live with the fact that my friend snatched my wife from me. To make matters worse, he would always remind me of my loss. I can't believe that I am now known and tagged a murderer. In fact, my eyes opened as soon as I stabbed that man,"
Going down memory lane, Wasiu narrated that he met his wife, Barakat in Ikorodu while he was on a visit to the town.
"She is black and very beautiful. She was actually selling recharge cards by the roadside. Pretending I wanted to buy a card, I chatted her up and we became friends. I visited her severally till she agreed to be my friend after six months of wait. The delay in convincing her, made me to fall so much more in love with her. She later got pregnant and I quickly visited her home and paid her bride price.
"All was well till I relocated her to Epe. To make ends meet, I would travel down to Lagos Island to hustle and return by weekend with goodies for my family. I introduced Tunji to my wife and he assured that he would take care of her while I was away. I never knew that he had plans."
According to Wasiu, he found it hard to believe when he started hearing rumours that his friend had taken over his wife who just gave birth
. "I did not believe it but when I confronted her, she confirmed that Tunji was toasting her but denied that they had an affair. Since she was a nursing mother, I thought it was not possible. Days before the Ileya festival (Muslim celebration), I gave my wife N1500 to make her hair and another N1500 to take our child to Ikorodu for treatment. He had rashes and my mother-in-law requested that the baby should be brought to her.
"I was shocked when I called her mother and she told me that Barakat was yet to get to Ikorodu. When she finally picked my call, she claimed that she had gone to see a friend. It was then that I realised that Tunji was not also in town. I don't need a soothsayer to tell me where she was. When she finally returned a day to Ileya, she said that she was with Tunji. I was heartbroken but my rage took over my soul when Tunji saw me the next day and dared me. He said that he would not only have sex with my wife but will marry her as his second wife. I was mad and tried to control myself from killing him."
Determined to toe the path of peace, Wasiu claimed that he reported the matter to the elders of the village but Tunji refused to stay away from his wife.
"It was just a waste of time and energy because the matter became worse", he added.
On the day of the incident, Wasiu specifically asked God to help him erase the thoughts of Barakat from his mind but he never knew the reverse would be the case.

"I was devastated and my emotions badly hurt. While we were preparing the ram that would be eaten, Tunji came on a bike with one heavily built man. They kept driving past me making jest of me. I had to draw the attention of Baba Ade (his uncle) to their behaviour. He advised me to drag one of them to him, so that he would ask the person what the issues were. I heeded his warning and tried to drag Segun to see Baba Ade. He gave me a sickening blow on the head, it was so painful that I picked up the knife that they used to slaughter the ram and stabbed him. My initial plan was to give him a mark that he would not forget but I mistakenly stabbed him on the neck and he bled profusely. I knew he would die and the community might set me on fire, so I ran into the bush and escaped to Lagos Island",
When reminded that he might be hanged or sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, Wasiu burst into tears and said:
"Tunji has succeeded in taking over my wife, whom I love so much. I am ready to die for the love ofmy wife. It is unfortunate that I can no longer be there to fight him. I am finished".
When Saturday Sun visited Eredo community, in Epe Local Government Area where the incident happened, Tunji was seen hanging out with some of his friends during which he was arrested by SARS operatives who had been trailing him. He told Saturday Sun that it was not his fault that Barakat chose to start a relationship with him

. "I met her last year and never knew that she was married to my former friend. That time, she was heavily pregnant. She complained bitterly that her husband was not taking care of her and her unborn child. I started assisting her before I knew that Wasiu is the husband. When she gave birth, she continued the friendship since I was still giving her money. I don't know how Wasiu got to know about our affair. The truth is that if Barakat still likes him, she would not come back to me after she had been warned severally.
"I never knew that he would go as far as killing someone because of her. I thank God that I was not close by. It was my dear friend, Segun that was killed. He decided to kill him because he thought that I was making mockery of him."
When asked where Barakat was, Tunji alleged that he relocated her to Ijebu Ode where he rented a room apartment for her.
"Ijebu Ode is close by and I normally go there to work. I kept her there for her own good since her husband will be sent to jail for the rest of his life."
