No fewer than 10 pupils were injured as students of St. James Anglican School, in the Kola Balogun area of Osogbo, Osun State,  on Monday clashed against their colleagues at Ansar-U-Deen Secondary School, Iludun.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that most of the students engaged in the clash belonged to rival cult groups.

Residents of the area said the students had clashed on Friday and a student almost lost his arm in the fight.
It was gathered that students, who were injured during the Monday clash, were rushed to a hospital where they were treated.
There were conflicting reports on the cause of the Monday clash.
Some said it was a fight over a girl while other said it was a reprisal by a group whose member was injured on Friday.

A female student said, "Just as we were about settling down in school this morning, friends of the student of Saint James' student, who was injured during  last week fight, stormed our school and started using matchete and charms on us.
"Some students were injured. We learnt that it was a reprisal, one student, who was said to be a cult guy, was said to have been beaten by members of a rival group and others came on a revenge mission."
The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, did not pick calls put across to her telephone while the text message sent to her telephone set was not responded to.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, Mr. Ayo Olowe, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.
He said three students were injured while some of the students were arrested by the police.

After some tantalizing dances from the world class cheerleaders, Captain Isiaka Olawale led out the Sand Eagles against their Senegalese opponent to battle for the second place. It is noteworthy that the Sand Eagles of Nigeria have won the last 3 editions of the Competition in front of their home crown but the match day two lose to the Ivorians spelt doom for the African Champions. 16-year-old Jolade (surname withheld) didn't know she had been dating a suspected cult member until the unexpected happened to her.

Whenever she remembers the ugly experience she allegedly went through in the hands of her boyfriend and three of his friends, she curses the day she met him.

Jolade was said to have been gang-raped by four suspected cultists including her boyfriend of over two years, Oluwole Seyi, 18.

Another girl, Tawa (surname withheld), said to be the girl friend of one of the other suspects, was also not spared as the boys allegedly had carnal knowledge of her in quick succession.

The three other suspected rapists were identified as Olayinka Andrew,18; Tobi Akindolapo, 17; and Ayomide Akinbinu, 18.

It was gathered that the victim was deceived by her boyfriend who allegedly told her they were attending a party in Ondo town that night.

But unknown to her, the boyfriend had allegedly arranged with three of his friends to commit the dastardly act. On getting to the said party, the victim was said to have become apprehensive when there were no signs that a party was in the offing.

She reportedly raised eyebrows over the mode of dressing of her boyfriend and his friends who allegedly put on black shirts and trousers with red scarfs on their heads.

She, however, played along when she discovered that another lady was with the boys.

But suddenly the boys reportedly pounced on her and the other girl and the four of them had carnal knowledge of them.
The boyfriend, the police, quoting the victims, said, took the first shot before the others took their turns.

The suspects, it was alleged, ignored the girls' cries for mercy. The victims reportedly bled profusely after the sexual assault.

Speaking with news men on the arrest of the four suspected cultists who allegedly raped the girls, the Ondo State Police Command image maker, Wole Ogodo, said the suspects were arrested in Ondo town.

He said the suspects had made confessional statements and would soon be charged to court.


He explained that detectives under the state Special Anti- Cultist Squad, SACS, swung into action following complaints lodged by victims and made the arrests.
Shedding more light on the two girls allegedly raped, Ogodo said Jolade's boyfriend and his fellow suspected cultists were trying to initiate them into the Eiye cult group.‎

Miss South Africa; Rolene Strauss has been crowned Miss World. Strauss emerged as the queen for the 2014 edition of the coveted pageant in an event held last night in London.

"South Africa, this is for you," she said in an interview after the pageant. "I'm so proud of you, and I'm proud to be your representative."

Strauss, 22, inherited the crown from Miss World 2013, Megan Young of the Philippines. She won the title over runner-up Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar. Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit took third place.

Strauss, a fourth-year medical student at University of the Free State, put her studies on hold after being crowned Miss South Africa in March. In her official Miss World 2014 introduction video, she credits former South African President Nelson Mandela with paving the way for her to pursue a career in medicine by creating a democratic South Africa.

Strauss said she looked forward to continuing the legacy of Miss World CEO Julia Morley, founder of "Beauty With a Purpose," a nonprofit that supports humanitarian projects of Miss World contestants.

Those who participate in a charitable contest or cause through the organization compete for the "Beauty With a Purpose" award, winning points toward their final score.

The focus on charitable acts helps counter criticism that the pageant promotes superficial images of women through swimsuit competitions and slinky evening gowns. As Miss South Africa, Strauss has promoted projects in women's rights, health and education, including one to provide menstruation education to schoolgirls in South Africa.‎

The police on Friday arraigned two men for stealing N7m from an Automated Teller Machine belonging to the First Bank of Nigeria Plc.

The incident was said to have occurred between November 30 and December 1, 2014 at the Lagos State University branch of the bank.

The police said the money was stolen without breaking or damaging the ATM, adding that they suspected that the crime must have been committed by people within the organisation.

According to the police, they suspect one Reginald Osie-Oghaede, an employee of the bank, and one Friday Amuche, a contract security guard posted to the branch.

Osie-Oghaede and Amuche were arraigned at the Lagos Magistrate's Court, Tinubu, Lagos Island, on two counts of felony and theft.

The charges read in part, "That you, Reginald Osie-Oghaede and Friday Amuche, on November 30 and December 1, 2014, at First Bank, LASU, Ojo, did conspire to commit felony to wit; stealing."

Osie-Oghaede and Amuche pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by Mrs. Y.R. Pinheiro in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till January 26, 2015.‎

The Labour Party has said that there was nothing strange in Alao Akala clinching its governorship ticket in Oyo State.
In a statement by its National Secretary, Mr. Kayode Ajulo, the party said:   "It is just a matter of water eventually finding its level. The issues must be put in correct perspective. It is not enough to limit ourselves to mere tooth picking analysis or fixated social media opinion."

Ajulo, however, argued that the LP decided to opt for Alao-Akala due to his achievements while he was governor of Oyo State.
He said: "When we take the case of Akala, for instance, it will be recalled that during his tenure as governor of Oyo State, he carried along the workers in the various unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, teachers, market women, civil societies, etc. While other governors in states controlled by supposedly progressive and pro-people parties placed embargo on employment and were not ready to implement the minimum wage, Akala employed more workers and did not denigrate the position of the working class.
"Equally important is the fact that Akala did not just get the Labour Party ticket in Oyo State on a platter of gold or for the asking. It was not also a matter of giving the ticket to the highest bidder. Akala worked his way rigorously and painstakingly up the ladder. He was endorsed by all those who matter in the party after a thorough check on his renewed commitment to the cause of the common man. He, indeed, had the support of other aspirants who acknowledged his worth and surrendered everything to him."

Ajulo added that the leadership of the party is currently "inundated with requests by politicians from the so-called large parties, who have either been betrayed or shortchanged and are seeking a credible platform on which to blossom and achieve their objective of truly transforming the polity. Some of our leaders have left their usual abode in order to avoid the deluge of politicians. They are coming in slews, seeking succour from injustice, seeking refuge from backstabbing, and seeking hope in a political future free from money mongering and selfish greed. This is an acknowledgement that the Labour Party is the last hope of the people."
"Ordinarily, Labour Party should be the ruling party or the main party, as we have in the United Kingdom, and not just one of the opposition. In Nigeria, most aspiring politicians often find themselves in the parties they consider as the ones with prospect to win in their own locality. Ideally, principles and programmes of a party, its manifesto, should determine its membership.  But in Nigeria a lot of primordial considerations come to the fore. Only very few parties indeed have clear-cut ideology. Labour is one of such parties founded on principle," he added.

The Force Headquarters is yet to restore any security details to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, over one week after it said he would be given police protection.

Instead, it said on Sunday that Tambuwal should apply for police details if he needed any.

Shortly after he emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 election in Sokoto State, the police said they would give Tambuwal and all other candidates protection.

However, the force headquarters clarified that it would do so not because it recognised Tambuwal as the speaker but because of his emergence as a governorship candidate.

Force Police Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, had stated, "The police will do the needful in protecting Alhaji Tambuwal and all other contestants."

But, over one week after it made the promise, the force headquarters made a U-turn on Sunday.

Ojukwu now said there was no automatic protection for any candidate, adding that anybody desirous of police protection should apply for it.

He noted that policemen had a lot of work to do and would not run after politicians asking whether they needed protection.

"It is the duty of the police to provide protection for all aspirants but they have to apply to be given police operatives.

"We have enough work on our hands and we cannot be running after candidates who need our protection.

"All candidates must apply for police protection", Ojukwu told one of our correspondents in Abuja.

But, Tambuwal reacted that he would not join issues with the police over their latest stance.

He recalled that the same police had long failed to obey an order of court, saying that "statusquo should be maintained" over the withdrawal of his security details.

"We don't want to join issues with the Police.

"There is a court order saying status quo should be maintained, but they chose to flaunt the order", His Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Imam Imam, said on Sunday.

The police had withdrawn Tambuwal's security details soon after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress on October 28.

The police claimed that they acted in line with Section 68 (g)(1) of the 1999 Constitution, a provision that allows defection only on grounds of divisions in a political party.

The speaker has since challenged the police action before an Abuja Federal High Court.‎

Dame Patience Jonathan, Nigeria's First Lady, has given the reason why she endorsed Mr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as Rivers State PDP governorship candidate, .

Mama peace gave her reasons while speaking during the burial of Senator Tari James Sekibo, at Okirika. She told the Okirika Council of Chiefs that "Before you today is the next governor of Rivers State. He is the former Minister of state for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike".

She said she stood by those committed to total development of all Rivers people, not leaders who insisted on emasculating other groups through policies that would displace them.

Mrs Jonathan added that such leaders would also not be allowed to produce their successor in the state, because their anointed successor had been briefed to continue their similar divisive policies.

According to her, "The PDP is the best party and the most popular party in the country. The PDP is the leading party that will win Rivers State."

The Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, has emerged the overall winners of the 18th edition of The Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) tagged BIDA 2014. The events which was held at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida saw Yabatech winning 34 medals, made up of 17 gold, eight silver and nine bronze.

The second position went to The Polytechnic, Ibadan who won 14 gold, five silver and 11 bronze.

Abia State polytechnic, Aba, took the 3rd position with 11 gold, four silver and seven bronze.

Out of the 42 polytechnics that took part, 29 got medals while 13 did not secure any medal.

Big Brother Africa, 2011, Amplified winner Karen Igho has been giving away tell tale signs of her marriage on social media for a while now. First she showed off her engagement ring and then added her husband's name 'Rakos' to hers.

As at yesterday December 13, 2014 it was no longer a secret. Karen Igho and her husband Yaroslav Rakos were in her hometown of Jos where their traditional wedding ceremony took place.

Prophet Duromola Adedayo Samuel, the founder and General Overseer of the popular Warri-based church Christ Worshippers Church has descended heavily on the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo describing him as being sick for his utterances against the sitting president.

In a chat with Ben Akponine Samuel in his office in Warri, Delta State, the clergy lambasted Obasanjo for also attacking other political leaders describing his utterances as being capable of fueling crisis in the country and planting seeds of discord amongst Nigeria.
"Obasanjo is sick, seriously, Obasanjo is mentally very sick. He is what we Yorubas would called an agbaya. He calls himself an elder statesman. Is this the way elder statesmen behave? How can you come out and be rubbishing the sitting president every now and then when you are a former president? What are you trying to achieve? Whatever Obasanjo says he is trying to achieve is nothing but trying to fuel crisis in Nigeria and plant seeds of discord among Nigerians. Have you ever seen Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, George Bush criticize any sitting American president? Or did Mandela toe that line? Why must it always be Obasanjo? Is he the only former Nigerian leader alive today? He is sick and it is in his character. He does not respect himself," Prophet D. A. Samuel said.

The prophet also rubbished Obasanjo's latest book, My Watch. "When he left office as military head of state, he wrote a book called 'Not My Will'. In the book, he insulted his elders, abused Awolowo, wrote all manners of insults against him. He took Azikiwe to the cleaners and even Aminu Kano who was late, Obasanjo did not spare him. Now, he has written another satanic book which he called My Watch. You begin to wonder what kind of a man is he? He thinks he knows everything. He called Jonathan all manner of names and said so many things. I wonder why he did not try this during Abacha's time. He should have written a book and abused Abacha with just a line and I am sure his jail experience would have been gorier."

He accused Obasanjo of having a personal grudge against the president. "How can you rubbish a government of your party if you are truly sane? Obasanjo obviously has a personal grudge against Jonathan and taking him to the cleaners is his own way of hitting at the president. Is that not childish for an old man?"

He also berated Obasanjo for attacking his former deputy Abubakar Atiku and other political leaders including the late President Umar Yar'Adua. "He even said Yar'Adua deceived him on his state of health. In Yorubaland, it is not right to talk ill against the dead because they cannot defend themselves. To tell you how sick Obasanjo has become, he has been romancing with the opposition yet he attacked Tinubu and said Tinubu had the worst case of corruption. Does that not show that Obasanjo himself was not competent? Otherwise, how can you claim that you have the file on a corrupt individual and you are the president and you did not act accordingly? He said Buhari is brave then he spoilt it again by saying the man is not a good economy manager. He attacked Atiku and said obvious lies because we know the story of the third time agenda. Why did he not come out to shout that it was what he is saying today? Then, he attacked Ken Nnamani. Ken Nnamani frustrated the third term scam, didn't he?"  

According to the prophet who recently bagged PhD in Theology, Obasanjo did not achieve anything during his time as president. He said that even though Obasanjo because president on account of Abiola, the ex-president did not do anything to recognize Abiola or his family, this he said shows how wicked Obasanjo really his.
"Obasanjo became president because of Abiola, they wanted to pacify the Yorubas and he was the lackey that they chose. But did he accept that he was president because of Abiola? Did he immortalize Abiola? What did he do for Abiola's family? This is also a wicked man. Yet he is the one talking like he is the holiest man around. He is suffering from self-delusion and he must find a way to redeem himself. Boko haram started during his tenure, if he had crushed them, they would have been dead, today, he is riding on the crisis like a hero. He is dubious and sick; a deranged fraud. Obasanjo should be probed, dealt with and put in his place."

Prophet D. A. Samuel as he is fondly called advised Obasanjo to first put his own house in order before coming out to settle national issues. "He should go and settle with his first daughter Iyabo, he should go and settle with his first wife and with his first son, he should off the fire in his house before coming out to talk. We should learn to ignore such characters because he has done no good to anyone."
