COMMON CHELSEA MAN CITY NO FIT BEAT

It looks funny that Manchester city could not edge pass Chelsea even with the absence of key players like Diego Costa who was serving his ban, Cesc Fabregas and Felipe Luis who are out through injury.

Loic Remy - took centre stage at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. He gave the hosts a 41st-minute lead, before a rare mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois allowed David Silva to equalise in the final minute of the first half.

Man city started sharply, as Courtois beat away a stinging shot from Jesus Navas inside the first 20 seconds and Fernandinho had a
low, angled drive deflected wide.

John Terry  joined fellow captain Kompany in having an error go unpunished - Aguero pulling a shot wastefully wide after the former England man had missed his kick during the match punt
Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard enjoyed warm applause on his return to Stamford Bridge while warming up with the City substitutes, as his colleagues on the field enjoyed an encouraging start the second half.

Lampard finally made a 76th minute introduction as City attempted a late assault.

Chelsea remain on top of the table with Five point clear of Manchester city.

Incredible come back sends Democratic Republic through Ferebory Dore and Thievy Bifouma opened up a two goal lead for Congo, but four second half goals saw the result
turned around

Democratic Republic of Congo produced a remarkable fightback to beat neighbours Congo 4-2 and reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Mbokani pulled a goal back and Jeremy Bokila made up for wasting several chances by equalising, before Joel Kimwaki came off the
bench to head DR Congo in front for the first time eight minutes from the end.

The lively Mbokani then added a fourth goal to seal the victory, as DR Congo won for the first time in the tournament to move into the last
four.

It was Congo who took the lead 10 minutes after the break, when Delvin Ndinga floated in a set-piece and an unmarked Dore applied
the finish from close range.

DR Congo were vulnerable at the back, they continued to threaten going forward and they later won the game at the end of the day.

In an interview with the Sports editor of BlackBox Nigeria, the striker narrated his growing up days stating that he comes from a family of five.

2.      STATE OF ORIGIN
If you were wondering why the Akwa Ibom I international Stadium could not stop chanting his name when he scored for the home Eagles against the Black Meteors of Ghana, it is because he is a son of the soil and he confirmed that in an exclusive interview with Black box Nigeria "I am from Uyo, Akwa Ibom state and I come from a family of five, am the fourth child with two senior sisters and two brothers".

3.      EARLY LIFE
Most local league players had it rough growing up and Emem was no exemption because he told BBN that he faced serious challenges but he has his parents to thank for their support. The striker had this to say concerning his early life"Growing up for me was full of challenges and I thank God for helping to combat those challenges and guiding me to this stage". My own parent supported me from the beginning of my professional career till I got this stage, in fact I owe my development in the game to my parent".

4.       JOURNEY TO DOLPHINS FC
As a young boy in the township of Uyo, Emem grew up with huge ambitions of becoming a professional footballer. In his chat with BlacBox Nigeria, Emem narrated to the sports editor how he began his career with Akwa starlets in his home town before moving to Nigerian professional football league side Akwa United. He played against Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt in the FA cup and attracted the interest of the Club hierarchy, though the transfer fee was undisclosed and Emem had no idea of the deal, he just wanted to follow is passion. Emem said this in the interview "I started my professional career starlet in my home town Akwa Ibom, but I played for them for just half of the season before I moved to top side Akwa United, I player a complete season with the Uyo based club before I joined up with Dolphins fc of Port Harcourt and this is my fourth season at the club". "During my lone season at Akwa united, I had the opportunity to play against Dolphins fc in the Federation Cup and impressed the hierarchy of the club and they signed me up after that season".

Fmem Eduok disclosed that it would be safe to conclude that he has largely been successful in front of goal because he respects and adores his teammates and they have no reason to deny him passes. 6.         NATIONAL TEAM CALL-UP
Former Super eagles head coach Stephen Keshi being a close follower of the Nigerian Professional Football League handed Emem Eduok his first Super Eagles Call-up following series of scintillating performances by the hitman for former club Dolphins Fc of Port Harcourt during the 2013/14 NPFL season. The striker made the all important trip to Khartoum in Sudan for the 2015 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers. He also earned two other subsequent call-ups for his country.

7.    NATIONAL TEAM GOAL
Emem Eduok was never part of the Home Eagles set-up until his appearance for the Home Eagles of Nigeria against the Black Meteors of Ghana to commission the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in uyo. The striker didn't waste anytime before registering his name in the history books as the first player to score in the Nest of Champions.

8.         BREAKTHROUGH SEASON
The 2013/14 Nigeria Professional League Season will be one that the striker will not want to Forget because of his Scintillating performances throughout the Campaign. The striker equaled the goal scoring feat of former Kaduna United goal monger Jude Aneke with his 20 goals feat, not only that Emem claimed both the highest goals scorer and the prestigious Most Valuable player at the 2014 Federation Cup Finals at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. The pacey Striker also made a $600,000 move to Tunisia top club side Esperance following his 2013/14 breakthrough season having spend four years of devoted service to Dolphins Fc of Port Harcourt.

9.          TRANSFER SAGA
The career of one of the brightest prospect of Nigeria footballer almost suffered a transfer drama that cost most upcoming players their professional career. BBN can confirm that truly Emem signed a contact with Sarpsborg but he trusted the individuals to have seek the permission of Dolphins Fc before they brought the contract. BBn also understand that this two individuals who presented Emem to the Norwegian club as a player from their academy are key figures in River state politics wielding influence from both APC and PDP respectively. So who would blame Emem for falling victim to this men who had the yam and the knife since he only had the plate to receive his share. So the misconception must be cleared that Emem knew what was going on because no player will want to ruin his own career, he was a victim.

10.         Legendary Status in the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL)
Religious follower of the Nigeria Professional Football league will understand what I mean by the legendary status of Emem Eduok. Starting with the fact that Emem is the Second All-time scorer in the NPFL history, the Former Dolphins Fc hitman earns the title of "the Only One" from Bbn when he became the only player in worlds Modern day football to score Six(6) goals in a match when he stunned the faithful of Nembe City in a Nigeria professional football league match last season.

Busted! Police Detain Women In Order To R.ape Them

No comments :
Add BBN on 2BAFB965

A report into crimes committed by South Africa's police force draws a disturbing picture: dozens of officers charged for the murders, armed robberies and r.apes of citizens they are sworn to protect. Particularly worrying is the number of reported cases of police officers detaining women in order to r.ape them. "These are not 'isolated incidents' but a 'pattern of behaviour,'" warns the "Broken Blue Line" report, released Wednesday by the Johannesburg-based Institute for Race Relations. "Violent crime levels in South Africa won't turn around while the 'wolf guards the sheep.'" The study of 100 randomly selected media reports about alleged police crime was funded by Afriforum, an Afrikaner rights organisation. Relatively petty offences, such as bribe taking, were not considered. Of the 100 incidents described, 32 were murders and attempted murders, 22 were armed robberies, and 26 were r.apes, in addition to other serious offenses. The results were then compared against two additional sources of information on disciplinary action against police officers implicated in crimes. According to the IRR, more than 1,400 serving police officers, or about one in 100, have a criminal record for serious, violent offences. While South African Police Service management is trying to deal with the problem of criminality on the force, there appears to be limited success. A 2011 version of the "Broken Blue Line" report found similar results, including a major problem with s3xual violence by police. The latest report describes "significant evidence of a trend" of police officers detaining women in order to r.ape them. South Africa has one of the highest recorded rates of r.ape in the world. In a number of incidents reported by media, a police officer would stop a young woman in a public place, before taking her away to be r.aped in the back of a police vehicle and then setting her free. "It is often with good reason that the public fear the police, especially with regard to s3xual violence and r.ape perpetrated by officers against vulnerable women – the most frightening finding of the report," the report said. South African police have faced numerous allegations of corruption and brutality in recent years. A two-year audit of the country's police service, released in 2013, found that of 157,500 officers, 1,448 of them had been convicted of crimes. Responding to the report, the South African Police Service criticized the methodology as containing "dangerous generalizations, apparently mostly based on media reports, interviews with journalists and some form of engagement with the IPID [Independent Police Investigative Directorate, an independent oversight body]." "We do not support it and feel that it was funded and released with malicious intent," Riah Phiyega, South Africa's national police commissioner, said in a statement.  @blackboxupdate

DECADE OF GLORY: THE MEMOIRS OF AN ENTERTAINER

To The KokoMaster, D'banj,

Music is a difficult thing to define and individuals have different meanings for this word. However, it is undeniable that music is an art of some sort, a mixture of rhythm, words and acoustics carried through the wind by the magic of the moment in which it occurs. Some people redefine music and by so doing, define an era by their uniqueness, infectious charisma and undeniable passion for this art.

Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, is an enigma that defies all attempts to completely define him. You have blazed a trail in the annals of music on this continent and even beyond throughout your scintillating career. It has been a journey of ups and downs, breaking conventions and rewriting the rules in your own style and giving people like me the privilege of watching Africa's Greatest Entertainer. Perhaps even more astounding is the ease with which you have kept audiences on their feet, blowing their minds away with your unique blend of vocal dexterity and life-based lyrics. Indeed it has been a decade of pure excellence, sheer class and extravagant performances from the Koko Master.

Your rise to prominence is no accident and those who were privileged to listen to you play the harmonica can attest to the hard work, dedication and sheer belief that has catapulted you to the zenith of your profession today. Asides from your undeniable contribution to the musical industry in Nigeria, it is the impact you have made outside the shores of this country and even the continent that stands you out among your peers. From your maiden award at the 2005 Kora Awards to the well-deserved Best Newcomer award bagged at the 2006 Channel O music awards, it was obvious that the trajectory was only going up from there. You kept on turning out hits despite the euphoria of past triumphs and the challenge of surpassing previous accomplishments. It is only fitting that you have a trophy cabinet littered with an avalanche of international, continental and domestic honours to show for your laudable efforts.

Moreover, your status as an outstanding entrepreneur is matched only by your passion for youth development in Africa. The Koko Foundation and the burgeoning ONE campaign are just examples of your foray into the field of selfless service. Every step you take is more than a milestone, signing a lucrative deal with the trendy audio company BeatByDre is more of pace setting as the First African Ambassador of Apple. As Nigeria's first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace, you remain a beacon of hope in this troubled period. There are many ways to describe a man of excellence, a man of many parts, an enigma worthy of adulation and genuine adulation. I stand in awe of your existence as a human being and all you have achieved against the odds. It has been my greatest pleasure to be one of your biggest fans and to dream that one day, I can attain heights such as yours. You have proved that the sun can be reached even if the stars seem closer. I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to witness your magic at close quarters. Other men it is said have seen the angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough.

As you celebrate your 10th Year Anniversary in the Music Industry, may God Almighty make you greater as the well of your favour and grace shall not dry. I Bet You Never Knew Veteran Actor Ogogo Used To Be Mechanic...+more revelations

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Iconic yoruba actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan popularly known as Ogogo has been making the news recently. This is due to his surprising journey into the music industry from Nollywood which has got many tongues wagging.

Ogogo recently made further revelations where he disclosed that he was actually trained as a Mechanic and infact used to be a civil servant before embracing the make belief industry full time.
Excerpts...

Do you feel accomplished as an actor?
Yes, I feel fulfilled and I thank Almighty Allah for his mercies and goodness. As far as I am not dead, I am still working to be better at everything I do. So far so good, I give thanks to God.

Why did you leave your job in the civil service for acting?
I retired. I really love the acting profession and I have been doing it for a long time. I began acting even before I started working for the water corporation. I began acting in 1981 shortly after I got a job at the water corporation as an auto-mechanic. I worked at the water corporation for about 13 years before I decided to face my acting career. That was in 1994. I am sure not many people believe that I trained as a mechanic.

How were you able to combine your civil service job with your acting career?
I always made sure that any production I partook in was on a weekend or during my annual leave.

What was your ambition as a child?
To be honest, all I knew was that I wanted to be someone great in life. I never knew that I would be involved in the entertainment industry while growing. I just admired the glitz and glamour. I think my love for entertainment can be traced to the fact that I come from a family that is deeply rooted in the Yoruba culture and tradition. We are masqueraders and I know how to praise people and chant very well. When I started acting, producers loved giving me the role of a traditional chanter because they knew I could chant 'ewi' and 'oriki' very well.

Since you began acting in 1981, has there been any time you felt like quitting?
Never. Such thought has never crossed my mind.

So you never had a challenging moment?
Of course, there were challenging moments but they were not enough reason for me to quit. Things are better now because back then, we did not get any financial gain from our profession. The people that enjoyed being actors were those whose parents were rich enough to sponsor their projects. Back then, if you were unable to produce a movie, it was difficult to become a success in the industry because you would always rely on stage plays to survive. When I produced my first movie, some people were shooting theirs for less than N20,000 but because I knew what I wanted, I aimed higher. I knew what it meant to produce a quality movie and I spent over N70,000 on my project. The Wicked Boy was my first movie and I shot it in 1993 in two parts. It was a big success and it sold very well. I produced a movie that I was paid a royalty of over N2m in the 90s. Now pirates have messed everything up for us.

How much were you paid for the first movie you ever featured in?
During that period, we could not charge. We were satisfied that we featured in movies. We were just doing solidarity jobs for ourselves. Gradually, we started charging and the highest we were paid then was N300. We suffered a lot before the industry became what it is today. There was a time a man called me for a job; he wanted me to chant in his movie. When he saw me, he did not believe I was an actor because of the corporate way I dressed. Then I was still a mechanic with the Lagos State Water Corporation but you would not know. When he asked me to name my price, I said N600 for starters but he could not meet up. He said that the lead character was charging about N400. I declined the job. In 1994, the highest paid actor charged about N1,500. I was paid N1,200 in 1991 for Omo Yoruba, that was the very first movie that I was paid big money.

Jehovah Witness Bans Forbids Members From Voting For Jonathan Or Buhari...see who they are allowed to support

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

As Nigerians prepare to elect new leaders that will run the affairs of the country in the next four years, members of Jehovah's Witness have been banned from participating in the electoral process and by implication, they are forbidden from voting for any candidate or contesting in any election.

They claimed that participating in an election was satanic and contrary to God's commandment.

P.M.NEWS findings revealed that members of Jehovah's Witness were warned not to obtain voter's cards and that they should not vote during the elections.
The directive was not a mere order as any member found participating or voting during the elections will be excommunicated.

When our reporter spoke to some of the members who confirmed the directive, they claimed that the order was right because they are still waiting for the kingdom of God that is yet to be establshed on earth.

A minister in the congregation, James Uduok, explained that every member of Jehovah's Witness knows that participating in election is satanic and contrary to the will of God.

Uduok said that the teaching of the Witness was strongly embedded in the Bible and all members must adhere strictly to the teaching or leave the congregation.
The members defended their decision not to vote or get involved in the electoral process by quoting Mathew 6: 9 and Mathew 4: 8.

Mathew 6: 9 says: "This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven may your holy name be honoured. May your kingdom come."
To members of Jehovah's Witness, this scripture implies that the kingdom of God has not come and they are still waiting for it to come.

Also, Mathew 4: 8 is a scripture that dwells on how the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and promised to give them to Him if He bowed down and worshipped him. Members of Jehovah's Witness claim that this world belongs to satan and insist that God's kingdom has not yet come.

When our reporter sought the views of non members, especially pastors, their response was contrary to the teaching of the Witnesses.
Pastor Jude Chukwurah noted that their belief was strange because the same Bible mandated Christians to respect constituted authority.

"God recognises leadership and authority of leaders in the society," he said.
Chukwurah said even in ages past, there was clamour for leaders as reported in the Bible and the people elected their leaders.

Another pastor, Michael James, said the Witnesses are misinterpreting the Bible and should be ignored.

He warned that their belief was not consistent with biblical teaching, adding that if such teaching is followed it could lead their members to imbibe false doctrine that could lead them to hell.

The Spain striker was charged with violent conduct after an alleged stamp on Emre Can earlier this week and has now been hit with a suspension by the Football Association

Diego Costa was challenging for the ball by the touchline in the first half of the second- leg League Cup semi-final tie at Stamford Bridge when he forcefully stood on Can's shin.

The incident went unpunished during the match, which Chelsea won 1-0 to progress 2-1 on aggregate, as referee Michael Oliver did not
see the challenge.

The FA subsequently charged Costa with violent conduct, a decision the player contested.

Although, an FA Independent Regulatory Commission has now chosen to uphold the original ruling and handed out a three-match ban.

"Diego Costa will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after a charge of violent conduct against him was found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission on Friday 30 January 2015," an FA statement read.

The news is a huge blow to Chelsea ahead of Saturday's top of the table clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Costa is also set to miss out on the trip to Aston Villa on February 7 and the home match with Everton four days later.

Bartholomew Owoh, one of the three young Nigerians executed by General Buhari for an offence that did not carry the death penalty is the elder brother of Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh popularly known as Osuofia, emerging facts indicate.

A source close to the Nollywood actor revealed this to newmen on Thursday on condition of anonymity. According to the source, Nkem Owoh and the rest of his family have not recovered from the trauma of the cold-blooded murder of the three young men, particularly their brother and son, Bartholomew Owoh…

Bernard Ogedengbe (29), Bartholomew Owoh (26) and Lawal Ojuolape (30) publicly executed by Buhari for a crime that did not carry the death penalty at the time of the offence.

The laws of Nigeria at the time the offence was committed did not prescribe the death penalty. When Buhari took over power, he insisted the young men should be executed and they were killed publicly by firing squad.

"Nkem Owoh and his family are so distraught with Buhari for killing their brother at the young age of 26. Every time he sees Buhari on TV, he weeps bitterly over his brother. He can't even believe that Buhari has the nerve to seek re-election as President", the source said.

De Bruyne and Dost leave champions reeling
Two brilliant first-half goals from the forward were followed by strikes from the former Chelsea midfielder, with Juan Bernat's goal scant consolation.

The first game back after Germany's mid-season break gave Wolfsburg's players and fans the opportunity to honour the life of 20-year-old midfielder Junior Mandala, who died in
a car crash earlier this month, before kick-off.

Wolfsburg who were 11 points behind leaders Bayern in second before Friday's match, proceeded to give a stirring performance from the first whistle - Dost handing them a fourth-
minute lead.

Making only his fourth start of an injury-hit campaign, Dutch striker Dost doubled his tally in first-half stoppage time before the excellent
De Bruyne took centre-stage.

The Belgium international displayed visible emotion in memory of his countryman Mandala when he made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute.

Although Juan Bernat hit back for Bayern two minutes later, De Bruyne would mesmerizingly turn Dante inside-out to rifle in an unstoppable fourth and seal Bayern's worst league defeat since a 5-1 thrashing on the same ground in April 2009.

Following a poignant pre-match tribute to Mandala - commemorated with a lengthy period of applause before a moment's silence Wolfsburg stylishly controlled the game from the beginning to the end.

What a world , bayern now top the league with 8point advantage.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a 29-year-old drug dealer, Abiodun Elemoro to life imprisonment.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia pronounced the sentence on Thursday, after Elemoro had pleaded guilty to dealing in 30.5 grammes of heroine. The convict was brought before the court on April 26, 2014 by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on the allegation that he was caught in possession of the illicit drugs.

Elemoro, who appeared in court without any legal representation, had promptly confessed to committing the crime and pleaded for mercy. In his confession before Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, the father of a nine-month-old girl, told the court that prior to his arrest on April 24, 2014, he operated on Palm Church Street on Lagos Island, where he used to dispense the hard drug to end users.

He added that the business fetched him between N3, 000 and N5, 000 daily. However, the prosecutor, Mr Orji Kalu, told the court that Elemoro, by his act, had put himself at variance with Section 11(c) of the National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

He therefore urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.Consequently, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia convicted Elemoro on the strength of his confessional statement and the evidence tendered by the prosecution. While handing down the life imprisonment, the court said it had noted that Elemoro was well advanced in the crime and would constitute a negative influence on the society, particularly his nine-month-old baby, if pardoned.

The judge ordered the NDLEA to destroy the hard substance if there was no appeal against the judgment within 30 days.

But for the appearance of a man of God, Pastor Darlington Ajitemsan, a senior police officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, would have been dead by now as an angry mob was all set to lynch hin to death after he was caught raping a nine-year-old girl at Gowon Estate, Egbeda area of Lagos.

Pastor Ajitemsan who is the General Overseer of Open Channel Bible Church located in the estate, narrated how his intervention stopped the randy police officer from being beaten to death after he was nabbed red handed having carnal knowledge of the minor who is the daughter of a fellow police officer at about 9pm in an open field in the estate.

"It happened right here in Gowon Estate, not too far from my church. I was outside, when a commercial motorcyclist, riding through the football field, suddenly noticed a movement.
It was the light from the motorcycle that also made me to know that two people where on the open field. The girl was under the big guy. I did not know it was a little girl. The motorcycle rider was already calling me.
I quickly moved to the spot. I saw the big guy on top of the girl. She looked like an eight-year-old girl.
He had already penetrated her because I saw his joystick inside her. It was that sight that shocked me.
That was when the motorcyclist raised an alarm which drew a crowd and they descended on the police officer with the intention of killing him but the pastor pleaded with the crowd to spare the randy man's life.
An angry man in the crowd picked a plank and slammed it across the ASP's face, shouting he should get off the girl. The crowd started asking for tyre and petrol. The ASP turned to me, begging me to implore the crowd not to kill him.‎
I begged the youth to allow him to be because they wanted to smash his head and burn him, especially since he is a policeman."

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 50-year-old widow, Nwakpa Nwore, to a three-year-jail term over unlawful possession of cannabis.

Justice C.J. Aneke handed down the sentence after Nwoke had pleaded guilty to one count bordering on the offence.

The accused had been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on September 11, 2014 at Isiu Village in the Ikorodu Area of Lagos State.

The NDLEA prosecutor, Mr. Orji Kalu, had narrated to the court how Nwore was caught in possession of nine sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 59.15 kilogrammes.

According to Kalu, the accused violated Section 11 (c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. 30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Upon her arraignment on October 10, 2014, the widow, who appeared in court without any legal representation, had promptly pleaded guilty.

At the resumed trial on Friday, a prosecution witness and a Superintendent of Narcotics with the NDLEA, Mr. Odede Lawrence, said, "On September 11 when the accused was arrested, two operatives of the NDLEA, Safianu Abdulsalam and Iluobe Frank, came to my office with nine sacks of a substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa. I conducted a preliminary test on the substance, which proved positive for Cannabis Sativa. I also weighed the substance and found it to be 59.15kg."

After tendering the nine sacks and other exhibits in court as evidence, the prosecutor urged the court to convict Nwore and sentence her accordingly.

Kalu said, "My Lord, in view of the plea of the accused person and all the exhibits tendered by the prosecution in this matter, we pray this honourable court to convict the accused person as charged and in line with Section 218 and 285(2) of the Criminal Procedural Act."

The judge consequently convicted the accused as charged.

While pronouncing the sentence, Aneke, said he was inclined to temper justice with mercy because the accused had pleaded guilty without wasting the time of the court and considering that she was a first offender.

The judge also said he believed the widow, who had been in detention since her arrest in September last year, would have learnt her lessons and was deserving of a second chance.

Corruption: Obasanjo Should Be Blamed For Nigeria's Woes -Prof. Amuwo

A political scientist and speaker at the 39th public lecture on "Bullet versus Ballot: Interrogating Nigeria's 4th Republic Electoral's Consultations," Prof. Adekunle Amuwo, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo failed Nigeria during his tenure.

The lecture was organised by the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

Amuwo, who claimed he had full knowledge of how Obasanjo emerged the President of the country in 1999, said that the former President's rule was the genesis of the level of corruption currently being experienced in the country.

While saying the Peoples Democratic Party had not moved Nigeria forward for an inch, he described Jonathan's rule as the legacy Obasanjo left behind.

Describing the current political situation as crucial and critical in the history of the country, he urged the electorate to change the fortune of the country by choosing the 'ballot' rather than the 'bullet.'

He said, "We are in a democracy run by professional non-democrats — men and women who have the financial muscle to 'outmuscle' the electorate and the rest of the country because about 70 per cent of the population of Nigeria is poor.

"In 2001, Obasanjo promised Nigeria would enjoy 24/7 power supply, but he failed. His election in 1999 was massively flawed. He just had to win and Olu Falae had to lose.

"He represented the Western powers and Africa and did a lot for the two groups by providing an enabling business environment for them to thrive. But he did little for Nigeria.

"He had all the powers to tame the monster of corruption in the country, but he did not do anything.

"Things have become so bad that the United States now threatens that if we don't compose ourselves, they would not give us visas. It's ridiculous."

Stating that no reforms had been taking place since President Goodluck Jonathan emerged the country's leader, Amuwo said there is structural violence against the electorate.

"Nigeria can recover. However, the ballot should be used to do this instead of the bullet," he said.

Some scholars had, at a consultative meeting of media scholars and practitioners on the 2015 general elections, said the security of lives and property of the electorate was important for its success.

Speaking on behalf of the Chancellor, Covenant University and founder of the Living Faith Chapel, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ayo, said the programme was aimed at reshaping the destiny of the country in the forthcoming elections.

"This will hopefully play a major role to improve the existing security situation in the country before, during and after the elections," he said.
