BBN Special Feature: Ikorodu United! Lagosians can't wait to be part of the NPFL

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
The infiltration of foreign leagues in the contemporary third world societies, which includes my dear country to extend their fans base across the world, coupled with the fact that most Lagosian of my age did not get the privilege of watching top Lagos based clubs, such as the mighty Stationary Stores grace the legendary Onikan Staduim to make the state proud in the professional league and even in continental showpieces.
Many of us, who followed the local league religiously from a very young will not want to remember the crisis that bedeviled Julius Berger(Bridge boys) of Lagos, which accounted for the relegation of the last team lagosian could lay claim to, from the professional league. For me the demise of local league followership in the centre of excellence coupled with, the central Government misjudgment in neglecting the National stadium,Surulere for political reasons led to the sorry state that the Nigerian league finds itself now. Ever since the relegation of bridge boys of lagos(an offspring of Julius Berger) in 2006 the Nigeria premier league has lost torch with the religious football followers of Lagos. Following this historical tragedy, we had lost a generation of die hard fans to different foreign sides across the globe.
After the unfortunate departure of the Bridge boys of Lagos from the professional league scene, Many of us who are Lagosians and Passionate followers of the Local Leagues have watched keenly as several lagos based club sides struggle to battle for promotion to the professional league. At the beginning of the 2013/14 Nigeria National League season its was jubilation galore as the state welcomed "the white handkerchiefs" Stationary stores of Lagos back to action after they bought the Nigera National league slot of Union bank. Football enthusiastic lagosians and I must confess myself inclusive had believed that the wait was finally over, considering the rich history of the Super Stores and the glory days of the Onikan Stadium.
However, It was a disappointing season for Lagosians as the mighty Stationary Store got relegated from the Nigeria National league, and we all shifted our attention to the 4,000 capacity Agege Stadium, the home ground of Private owned First Bank of Lagos, unfortunately the final league day drama saw the only hope of we lagosians turn to peril as Coach Oshun led First bank of lagos suffered defeat in the Go-round Fc of Port Harcourt who had nothing to lose pre-match.
As another season of football comes by, we lagosians have entrusted our hopes on our local based clubs ones again, the Agege stadium will bubble once again as First bank Fc Of Lagos leads the likes of COD United of Lagos, MFM Fc of Lagos and the new jewel Ikorodu United. Unlike the three other contingents, Ikorodu United echoes loud in the hearts of Indigenous Lagos considering the fact that Ikorodu Is one of the Five Division that makes up lagos State. The Ikorodu revolution begun in March, when the team built on the legacy of popular side Bolowotan to announced a top Manager in person of Maurice Coleman to lead the team to glory.
The appointment of the Belgian, who have won two Nigerian premier league titles and also won the Nigerian FA Cup with little known Kaduna united in 2010 has shown that the team is making serious effort to return smiles to the faces of faithful Lagosian all around the world. It is noteworthy that the gaffer was credited for the discovery of the highly rated Super eagles Left back Taiye Taiwo when he began is Coaching Career In Nigeria with Nigerdock Fc of Lagos.
As a Nigerian youth who believes so much in our Local league and its players, I want to urge my fellow Sports enthusiastic lagos fans to come out of this western oriented delusion and join in the sporting revolution coming to centre of Excellence. I believe that Nigeria can still return the league to its glory days, this inspiration came as a result of the first hand experience I acquired while watching my fellow Nigerians take to the Umuahia township Stadium to Support Abia Warriors and Abia Comeths in their bid to gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League and battle relegation from the Nigeria National League respectively.
Finally, Black box Nigeria sports will continue to update our teaming readers on the developments in the Local league and I pray that the lost glory of the league will return, not only that, seeing my follow Nigeria youths and Sports loving Nigerian to troop en mass to the 4,000 Capacity Agege Stadium, the Legendary Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island is a dream I wish to live for. I also desire the return of the 60,000 capacity National Stadium, Surulere where I never had the privilege to watch the eagles play.
God Bless Nigeria
God Bless Nigeria Sport

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
Residents of Omojoda Community in the Adamo, Ikorodu area of Lagos have organised a search party to apprehend a middle-aged man, identified as Segun, aka Mago, who allegedly raped three girls before fleeing the area.
According to a report by PUNCH Metro, it was learnt that the police at the Sagamu Road Division and the Area N Command, Ijede, where the residents reported the matter, have also launched a manhunt for the suspected rapist.‎
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect, after allegedly raping his victims, cleaned the mess with a white handkerchief before bringing the girls back home.
When PUNCH Metro got to the area on Saturday, the Baale, Alhaji Adebola Kazeem, alleged that Segun also belonged to a cult, and had brought his gang members to rob the residents on several occasions.
He said, "It is not only in Omojoda that the man raped young girls. We believe he is also a cultist because he has led a gang to rob us several times. Reports got to us that he also raped some girls in the neighbouring Imure and Isiwu areas.
"If the police do not arrest him, there is fear that he might rape more young girls. Another thing he does is to clean the mess with a handkerchief. It was since the last rape incident on Friday, April 17, that he fled the area.
"The community is looking for him to hand him over to the police. What he now does is to send his gang to rob residents. Last week, a man's motorcycle was snatched in the early morning, and another woman returning from her shop was robbed."
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the mother of one of the victims, Adijat Akande, said she had sent her daughter on an errand in the area, but was shocked when she learnt that the girl had been kidnapped.
She said, "Whenever I sent her out at night, I would give her money to take a motorcycle. Fortunately on that day, she went with a phone. When I expected her to return, I tried her number, but it kept on saying 'user busy'. Later, a boy named Samuel ran to our house and raised the alarm that my daughter had been kidnapped.
"We began to search everywhere for her. After about an hour, we saw her staggering home. She slumped in front of the community mosque. When I rushed her to a private hospital, she was rejected and we were referred to a government hospital.
"When we got to Ikorodu that night, we were asked to come back the following day as they had a lot of emergencies. It was that same night that I reported to the police station."
The teenager, who spoke briefly with our correspondent, said Segun threatened to kill her if she raised the alarm.
She said, "He came on a motorcycle and met me at a junction. He said I should climb the motorcycle and that if I shouted, he would kill me. So, we went away to a bush in the Aleke area where he did it."
In a medical report from the General Hospital, Ikorodu, on April 20, 2015, signed by one Dr. Junaid, and obtained by PUNCH Metro, the incident was confirmed.
"Upon examination, it was found that a young girl is in distress. No seminal fluid or bloodstains was found on her thighs or vulva, and hymen not intact," the report read.
When our correspondent got to the suspect's house, his mother, who declined to give her name, said she had not seen Segun since the day of the incident.
She said, "I dont have much explanation. I have not seen him since the day of the incident. Whether he did it or not, that is left to God."
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter. He, however, had yet to get back as of press time.

Wakawa said, "We had always cautioned motorists against night travelling. The inherent dangers in it far outweigh whatever gains they claim are in it. We will not relent on this campaign until we get the needed results.
"We have recorded five   accidents on that road within one and a half years. The first one, 20 people died; the second, 17; the third, 12; the fourth 16, and the current accident 11 people died. All the accidents happened between 1am and 5am."

Amaechi Is A Liar, I Didn't Kill Anybody -Wike Fires Back

Rivers State governor- elect, Mr Nyesom Wike, has denied ever killing anybody or conspiring with any person whatsoever to kill any person in his life and in all his political pursuits, noting that killing anybody has never and will never form part of his strategy to win any election.
Wike, in a statement by Mr Emma Okah, Chairman, Media and Publicity of the PDP Campaign Organisation, Rivers State, was reacting to the allegation of killing made against him by the outgoing Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
According to Okah, "People no longer take Amaechi seriously. Wike did not need to kill anybody to win the 2015 governorship election in the state and one wonders why Amaechi, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, has kept quiet or refused to press criminal charges against Wike until he  is about to be sworn in as governor of Rivers State."
Okah said Wike has no immunity and wondered what Amaechi was waiting for to prosecute him or anybody he accuses of such a heinous crime if he was to be taken seriously.
"It is shameful for a man to speak loosely the way Amaechi does and we urge him to seek spiritual and medical attention," Okah opined, noting that no matter how much distractions he causes, he must account for his misdeeds in Rivers State during his tenure as governor.

Tambuwal Steps Down As Reps Speaker

OUT-GOING  Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu  Tambuwal, yesterday, bowed out of the  Green Chamber as he observed during his valedictory session  that the poor  relationship between the executive arm and the legislature diverted the House's attention and severally caused the nation a lot of embarrassment.
In his speech entitled: 'The Power of Unity of Purpose', which he delivered as he stepped down as the Speaker after his victory as the Governor-elect of Sokoto State, Tambuwal  boasted that the Seventh Assembly, over which he presided, was not tainted by allegations of corruption except in a couple of cases,  out of which only one is yet to be given a clean bill.
According to him, the attitude of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the ruling party, in trying to manipulate and stampede the legislature into submission, forced it into a cul-de-sac and occasioned the rancour between the two arms of government.
He said: "I must say that the frosty relationship between the executive and Seventh House was an unnecessary distraction and a source of embarrassment to the nation. It is unwarranted that a ruling party with clear majority boxed itself into that situation. If the executive fails to recognize the independence of the legislature and expects that it is a rubber stamp then frosty relation is bound to follow.
