Hajiya Aishatu Buhari, wife of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday donated assorted drugs for the care of victims of Saturday's Maiduguri multiple blasts. The blasts had claimed 58 lives and injured 138 people.
Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, presented the drugs at a Specialists Hospital, Maiduguri on behalf of Buhari's wife.
The governor's wife said the donation was to mitigate the devastating impact of the blasts on the injured people.
"Hajiya Buhari is touched by the impact of the blasts on the people and she has asked me to bring the drugs as part of her assistance in the treatment of injured,'' she said. Dr Hamza Mamza, Head of Clinical Services of the hospital expressed delight on the gesture of the donor and promised to use the drugs for the purpose intended.

INEC Extends PVC Collection To March22
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the country, to March 22, 2015.
Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, while announcing the suspension of the earlier March 8 deadline,in a press release, pointed out that the extension will offer the last opportunity to the eligible and duly registered persons to pick their PVCs.
"This latest extension offers the last opportunity for duly registered persons to collect their PVCs before the general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11, 2015. INEC hereby calls on registered persons that are yet to collect their PVCs to use this last opportunity in doing so, in order to participate in the forthcoming general elections," Kayode stated.

Stomach Infrastructure Feast Held At YabaTech
The Students Union Government body of Yaba College Of Technology( YabaTech ) recently hosted some of the students of the institution in what could best be described as a feast.
It was gathered that the students went to the SUG building in their numbers to receive their share of the 'national cake' since they were always required to pay SUG fees as part of their school fees.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of collection said the students left no stone unturned to ensure that they got their portion of the food item.
One of the students who made this disclosure on the condition of anonymity, explained that,
"Every year before a new set of excos arrive, the outgoing ones present a cow and cook rice for all students to enjoy themselves.
"This year, it was not an exemption as the students queued to get their portions and, it was really a sight to behold because of the way they were rushing for the food.
"I stayed in my hostel and watched all that was happening sha because it looked really embarrassing seeing students jump on such things".

PDP Cries Out On Plans By Governor Amaechi To Setup Chieftains, Wike

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has called on the Inspector General of Police to disband a wing of the Police in the state called C4I, saying it had allegedly uncovered a plot by All Progressives Congress, APC, to connive with the security body to implicate some chieftains of the party in phoney criminal activities.
Chairman, Media and Publicity of the PDP Campaign Organisation in the state, Mr Emma Okah, who briefed newsmen, Sunday in Port Harcourt, alleged that the APC had concluded arrangement with the C4I to release arms illegally to some youths for nefarious acts, adding that they would later be arrested and forced to implicate the governorship candidate of the party, Mr Nyesom Wike, President Goodluck Jonathan and other chieftains of the party to their callous activities.
Urging the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate the allegation and ensure those behind it were brought to book, the party alleged that among other things those to be allegedly equipped with arms illegally by the special unit of the Police would carry out indiscriminate kidnappings and cause chaos in the state before their arrest.
He said: "We have uncovered a heinous and shameful conspiracy by the said C4I and APC to arm some young men who would thereafter, be arrested while armed with the very weapons given to them by the C4I and APC. After their stage-managed arrest, false confessions would be obtained from them in consonance with the orchestrated plan to the effect that they were armed by the President and the governorship candidate of the PDP in Rivers State, Chief Wike, to commit sundry criminal acts including kidnap, armed robbery, and political assassinations.
"As a means of suppressing evidence and concealing the false confession, the young men would thereafter be killed by the C4I through administering poisons on them. The C4I and their APC co-conspirators would then falsely allege that the President in concert with Wike and the PDP are responsible for the murder of the young men.
"Prior to this time and just to mention one out of several cases, the C4I had attempted to abduct and possibly eliminate a member of the PDP in Rivers State, Mr Tonye Ayella. Mr. Ayella, who is the PDP's candidate to represent Port Harcourt constituency 2 in Rivers State House of Assembly in the 2015 general elections, was saved from abduction and possible elimination by security men attached to Mr Evans Bipi, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. This matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, who has refused to investigate the issues."
Meantime, the APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Chris Finebone, dismissed the allegation by the PDP as laughable and ludicrous.
He said: "For the APC, this is yet another contrivance from the deep box of propaganda of the PDP in Rivers State. It simply flies in the face.
"While not speaking for any organ of state like the Police or any other security agency, the APC in Rivers State believes that it is unthinkable for any sane mind or group of sane individuals to imagine that the Nigeria Police or other security organisations would attempt what the PDP is charging. That can only be possible between the PDP and any unscrupulous federal agency.
"The Rivers State chapter of the APC would like to urge the PDP to approach the various federal government controlled security agencies with the facts of its findings for proper investigation to ascertain the veracity of their claims."

Governor Fashola Wants To Give Lagosians Electricity If Disco Would Give Him Percentage

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Sunday, said the solution to the problem of power sector could be achieved in six months if the Distribution Companies, DISCOs, were ready to yield some percentages of their concessions to the state government.
Fashola made this statement at the commissioning of the 1.2 kilometer Glover Road and 8.5 megawatts, Peninsula Integrated Power Project, PIPP, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
The governor, while commissioning the fifth IPP, said: "Let the EKO DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government. In about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State.
"So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated.
''So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible."
He opined that the project showed that the money to improve the Nigerian economy is here, "since we don't need the World Bank to come and do this for us."
Fashola noted that he felt fulfilled with the conduct of youths that delivered the project, despite the difficulties in getting to the finishing point.
Explaining the importance of the project, the governor said the project, courtesy of the state government, in partnership with PIPP and Heritage Bank, would help to provide power supply to power the Lagos State public water corporations in Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikoyi, as well as over 25km of public lighting in the Lekki axis.
Earlier, Commissioner, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Taofeek Tijani, said the new addition was about continuity in public infrastructure programme of the state government.
General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board, Damilola Ogunbiyi, said the state had shown that reliable and sustainable power projects are possible through the youths.
Ogunbiyi said though it had been a successful story, the state was just scratching the surface in its "aggressive development plan," in the area of power.
Promoter of the project, Faruk Agoro, noted that the new IPP was an innovative idea of world-class natural gas-fired power generating facility, sold to the government by youths and it was bought into, to support government institutions, especially in the area of water supply and security.
Stage One is 8.5 megawatts, with the capacity for 30 megawatts. Lagos IPPs now has a total of 47 megawatts of electricity in total, powering public institutions around the state. The generated megawatts is however a tiny drop in the over 9,000 megawatts power deficit in the state.

APC Drags Patience Jonathan To International Criminal Court

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has made a formal complaint against Mrs. Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria's president, who during a rally in Calabar, Cross River State last week, called on PDP supporters to "stone" anyone who came to the state chanting change.
The letter of complaint signed by Rivers State Governor and Director General of APCPCO, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi, will today (Monday 9th, March) be dispatched to the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police (IG) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), among others.
According to Governor Amaechi, "Change, as the entire country must know by now, is the slogan of the APC – the rallying cry of a political party that wishes to bring hope of greater and better things to come for Nigeria and Nigerians. By her statement, Mrs. Jonathan was clearly calling on PDP supporters in Calabar to attack supporters and campaigners of the APC in the state."
The APCPCO likened some of Mrs. Jonathan's inciting statements and conduct during this political campaign season, to those of Mrs Simone Gbagbo, wife of the former president of Cote D'Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo, prior to that country's 2010 election. The ICC indicted Mrs. Gbagbo for her part in planning to perpetrate brutal attacks – including murder, rape, and sexual violence, on her husband's political opponents in the wake of the 2010 election.
Mrs. Jonathan does not occupy any formal office in the Nigerian government, as the position of First Lady is not recognized by the Nigerian constitution. But Mrs. Gbagbo's case shows the ICC's awareness of how someone beyond formal governmental and military hierarchies can be identified as responsible for serious international crimes.
The APCPCO pointed out that Mrs. Jonathan's incontrovertible hate speech not only contravenes the laws of the land, but also goes completely against the Abuja Peace Accord jointly signed by the two presidential candidates, General Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan – a gesture which is aimed at forestalling violence before, during and after the 2015 elections.
"PDP supporters in the state who may not know better could easily yield themselves to the First Lady's admonition and embark on a process of wanton stoning and other attacks against APC members," Governor Amaechi said.
The APCPCO also called on the Nigeria Police to put in place emergency measures to protect the life and property of APC members in Calabar and the entire Cross River State.

Mrs. Jonathan does not occupy any formal office in the Nigerian government, as the position of First Lady is not recognized by the Nigerian constitution. But Mrs. Gbagbo's case shows the ICC's awareness of how someone beyond formal governmental and military hierarchies can be identified as responsible for serious international crimes.
The APCPCO pointed out that Mrs. Jonathan's incontrovertible hate speech not only contravenes the laws of the land, but also goes completely against the Abuja Peace Accord jointly signed by the two presidential candidates, General Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan – a gesture which is aimed at forestalling violence before, during and after the 2015 elections.
"PDP supporters in the state who may not know better could easily yield themselves to the First Lady's admonition and embark on a process of wanton stoning and other attacks against APC members," Governor Amaechi said.
The APCPCO also called on the Nigeria Police to put in place emergency measures to protect the life and property of APC members in Calabar and the entire Cross River State.

Newly Sworn-in Zambian President Collapses During Address

Zambian President Edgar Lungu collapsed on the podium while presiding over a Women's Day celebration in Lusaka on Sunday -- less than two months after the 58-year-old took over from a leader who died in office.
Lungu was rushed to a military hospital, but the presidency later issued a statement saying he was receiving treatment for malaria but there was no need for concern.
"I am feeling much better and have been told I have high levels of fatigue and should take some rest," Lungu was quoted as saying in the statement, adding: "There is nothing to worry about."
Lungu later told a press briefing at the hospital: "I am looking forward to going home. Doctors have done their tests and they have found traces of malaria, but they are doing further tests and they will let me know what next after before the end of the day.
"They will tell me what to do and not to do, et cetera," he said, declining to take questions.
Lungu came to power in January after the death in office of president Michael Sata in October.
Rumours that Sata was ill had circulated widely before his death, but were always denied by the government.
Sata was Zambia's second leader to die in office in six years, sparking calls for presidential aspirants to undergo medical checks to guarantee their fitness.
Lungu, who fell after standing for some 20 minutes during the ceremony, is rumoured to have diabetes.
Presidential spokesman Amos Chanda said the results from thorough medical checks at the military hospital were good.

Woman Murders Husband In Cold Blood...reason yet unknown!

A quite unfortunate incident shook the people of Isiuzo Local Government Area and its environs in Enugu State, who have been thrown into shock after a housewife murdered her husband in cold blood in the area.
Elijah Agbo, the deceased, who hails from Imirike Agu village in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State but resides in Isiuzo, was relaxing in the living room of his house with his wife, Grace, and daughter, Deborah, at night on the fateful day, March 5, 2015, without knowing that his end was near.
At about 9pm, as gathered, the housewife, Grace, asked the daughter, Deborah, to go to bed. Deborah, a 12-year-old girl, obeyed her mother and went to bed, leaving her parents alone in the living room.
But shortly after she retired to bed, Deborah heard a loud, sharp cry from her father, Elijah.
The cry was accompanied by a thud, and alarmed, Deborah rushed to the living room, where she saw her father on the floor, with blood gushing from a fresh, open wound on his head, which had been smashed in.
Grace had used a heavy stick to smash her husband's head immediately Deborah stepped out of the living room. Elijah, the unfortunate husband, died on the spot.
His body has been deposited at the general hospital in Ikem.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the housewife had been arrested.
Amaraizu said the police is yet to determine why Grace murdered her husband in cold blood.
But he noted that the woman is helping the police in its investigations into the incident.

Governor Mimiko Believes President Jonathan Would Win By A Landslide

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, will win the March 28th election by a landslide.
Mimiko said this in an interview with journalists in Ife on Saturday after the visit of Jonathan to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, to solicit the support of the royal father, other traditional rulers and the people of Osun State.
Mimiko said that Jonathan would defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Conress in the poll, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari ( retd.) across the country and would defeat him in all the states in the South West by securing at least 75 per cent of the votes in the region.
Mimiko said in his words,
"With all sense of humility, President Jonathan will have more than 75 per cent of votes in Yoruba land. APC is well grounded in propaganda and the super structure of their programmes is propaganda."
"For so long, we have been the advocates of federalism in Nigeria and president Jonathan has better chances of winning again."
The governor said that Jonathan would win convincingly because the restructuring which most Nigerians were clamouring for were embedded in the report of the Confab which the President had promised to implement if he won a re-election.
According to him, federalism which the Yoruba people had always advocated was part of the report, saying its implementation would put the nation on a steady path of development.

In a ceremony that was held at the new auditorium, Lagos state university, ojo campus on Friday 6th of March 2015, the management of Lagos State University finally inaugurated the newly elected students union executive of the institution.
The ceremony which had in attendance the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Obafunwa kicked of around 10am. Also in in attendance were the Deputy-Vice Chancellor (academics) Professor Sena Bakre, the Registrar, Librarian and other principal officers which included the dean of Student Affairs Prof Kabiru Akinyemi.

The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Friday that the Super Eagles will play a friendly game against South Africa on Sunday, March 29, three days after hosting Bolivia in Uyo.
The match comes a little over four months after a 2-2 draw in Uyo between the two teams meant Nigeria failed to qualify for the 30th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea.
The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit where the Super Eagles played their first two matches enroute to winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title.
While South Africa will be looking to pick up from their group stage elimination at this year's Afcon, Nigeria are yet to appoint a substantive coach since the end of the World Cup in 2014.
Both teams are preparing for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
The Super Eagles would be without their star player John Obi Mikel who has recently undergone surgery at Chelsea and will be out till April.
However, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is expected to return and would earn inch closer to his century of caps for the national team if
he plays in both matches.
