107-Year Old Man Weds 95-Year Old Heartthrob In Nigeria

For 70 years, Elder Dikam Garba Dabo'ok and MrsKa'a Nafung had lived together as husband and wife. But the couple, now 107 and 95 years respectively, have found a new sparkle to rekindle their marital love in the church.
The church ceremony in Plateau State, has remained the talk of the town in the social diary of the state and may remain so for a long time. This is particularly so because the celebrants are the first couple in the history of the state to be administered marital vow at such unusual ages.
At 95, the bride is well past her menopause. Her surviving first child is 65 years old. The groom, popularly known to many in his neighbourhood as Baba Dikam, is 107 years old and may no longer be sexually active. But all that is not enough to discourage the couple from walking down the aisle arm-in-arm for a new marital oath.
The ceremony, which was held at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Chizu village in Bwai, Mangu Local Government Area of the state, was a delight to watch as it was packaged in the manner that young grooms and brides would walk down the aisle. The groom was dressed in black suite and a red neck tie to match, while the bride stepped out dressed in a pure white wedding gown with a neatly made hair to match. They drove to the church in separate vehicles, as if they never met before. The groom was accompanied by cutely dressed men and the bride by a long bridal train.
They had a procession and matched into the church separately as if they never met before. They only came together after they were wedded by the officiating pastor. The officiating pastor of the church, Rev. Tongwe Sale, congratulated the couple and admonished them as if they were young couples. He said: "Marriage is ordained by God and it should be kept sacred." He charged them to keep faith in God since they are still alive, noting that although they are old, they can still be important in the lives of their children and grand children.
Taking his message from Genesis 1:26-27, Rev. Elisha Pam spoke on the topic, "Marriage: Highly mysterious" and pointed out that when God created Adam, the woman was already in existence in the body of man, after which she was brought out in a mysterious way and Adam named her Eve. He noted that the grounds for a solid marriage are patience and obedience through Christ as he read Ephesians 5:21
They happily took the oath that they would love themselves until death do them apart. They also vowed not to allow a third party in their marital life. They signed the marriage certificate after the service and marched out of the church dancing to the admiration of their guests.
When they got outside the church auditorium, the newly wedded couple posed for photograph in various styles and angles. After the photograph session, they moved in a car and zoomed off to the reception ground accompanied by their guests, children, friends and family members.
When it was time to cut the wedding cake, the couple walked hand in hand to where the colourful cake was placed. The groom continuously gazed at his wedding ring in a manner that suggests that the occasion was a dream come true for him. Like marksmen, they held the knife firmly and on completion of the spelling of Jesus, they cut the cake and feebly smiled at the guests. They trilled their guests with the ceremonial culture of couple feeding one another with the cake and non-alcoholic wine. After feeding themselves, the newly wedded couple danced to the music blasting from the loud speakers in "old school" style to the admiration of their guests.
It was celebration galore at the reception for the family and friends of the couple. The couples told their excited guests at the reception their true life stories. They said it was the grace of God that allowed them to solemnise their marriage in the church.
The groom narrated his life story thus: "I had seven wives and 32 children during my younger days, but I did so because I did not know Christ. But that made me great among my contemporaries as only those who were wealthy could do that. But in spite of that, God remained faithful and merciful for me. I have a lot of testimonies to show that God was so faithful to me. I am now in a better position to advise my children and my well wishers to live the life of Christ. I don't want any of my children to emulate my past life style, because you may fall out of the grace and mercies of God. But I'm so pleased because my children are committed to Christ; they lived the life of Christ, they were the ones that insisted I must come to Christ and take their mother to the altar.
"Before now we lived our lives outside Christ, but from today, we are now confirmed children of Christ. It would have been worse for us if we had died without Christ. But God has protected our lives up till this moment to come to Him."
One of the children of the couple, Barr. Zephaniah Garba was full of appreciation and praises to God when he spoke with our reporter. He said: "I am full of joy today because my father has come to profess Christ at his old age. I have been looking forward to this day and I thank God they were able to make it. I want to encourage those who did not conduct their marriage in Christian way to try and do so; it is never late. My father's own should be an example to others, you can still do it".
There were goodwill messages from the Chairmen of PCC Kabwir, Rev. David Musa, and Langtang North LG Chairman elect, Hon. Daniel Dandul, while various dance groups added colour to the event as the couples cut their wedding cake.

Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Mr Ekpo Nta, revealed at the weekend that the commission had rescued a female undergraduate of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, who had spent 12 years on campus
for refusing sexual advances, adding that they were working on prosecuting all the officials involved.
He said the commission had focused its torchlight on the universities, where it has closed down over 26 illegal degree-awarding institutions and rescued a number of students
being victimised.
"There is also a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who had spent eight years in the institution without graduating, as he was being victimised. We got involved and through us, he graduated."

Despite Debt Denials, Dbanj's Debt Suit Resumes March 30

Nigerian music superstar D'banj is having the time of his life with parties and concerts around the globe celebrating his 10th year anniversary as an entertainer, however his alleged debt allegation crisis that seems to have died down has reared its ugly head up again.
Reports have revealed that the singer will be in court on Monday, March 30, 2015, to defend himself against allegations of refusal to repay back loans.
In the last quarter of 2014, multiple media reports alleged that D'banj might be dragged to court by a top oil and gas industry player, Henry Ojogho, Vice Chairman of Broron Group. Ojogho, who is also the Vice Chairman of MindHub Technologies, an integrated Rice farming and milling production company, who alleged that D'banj, through his company, DKM Media Limited, obtained a loan of over N60m from him in January 2013 and has not paid back the said sum despite signing an undertaking to do so.
Following this allegation, the writ of summons and other relevant documents in the suit was posted on D'Banj's residence on Osaro Isokpan Street in Lekki Phase 1.
The pasting was done by the court bailiff on December 17, 2014 at about 1:35p.m, pursuant to order of court made on November 12, 2014 having been satisfied that the defendant was evading being served the notice.
Subsequently, the court case between the DB Records boss and Mindhub Technologies bearing suit number: LD/ADR/445/14 was scheduled to commence hearing on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Multi-door Courthouse in Obalende, Lagos, but it was indefinitely postponed as a result of strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) which paralysed activities and court rooms remain closed.
The strike was recently called off by the judicial workers, and immediately a new date was set for the court case.
A source in the camp of the claimant's camp said, "Yes, we are back to court, and we are aware that D'banj has secured the services of a lawyer as well who wants to file in some documents in his defense, but we are yet to receive the papers. Meanwhile the case has been adjourned to March 30, 2015 at the Multi-door Courthouse in Obalende, Lagos."
In January 2015, D'banj kicked off his 10th year anniversary celebrations in Lagos when he flew in American twerk queen Amber Rose to host the kick-off party in Lagos.
In February he moved the party to South Africa where he was hosted at 'Harlem' and 'Kong' night clubs with a lot of celebrities in attendance.
Last week Thursday, February 27, 2015, D'banj headlined the Industry Night celebrations in Dubai as part of his 10th anniversary celebrations where he performed alongside Kenya's Sauti Sol, Dubai's G Mac and others.

Nabbed 17Year Old Robber Reveals He Went Into Robbery To Meet Girlfriend's Needs

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Enugu State police command, have arrested one Uchenna Ikwuegbu who was allegedly on the verge of launching a robbery attack on residents of Maryland axis of Enugu.
The suspect, 17, who hails from Odida-Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, residing at 10, Road 23, Upper-North, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, was arrested on February 16, following surveillance reports. He was arrested with a locally-made pistol, cut to seize with two live cartridges.
The suspect said: "I acquired the gun from a timber mill at Maryland. The urge to meet up with the demands from my girlfriend, Chinaza, living at Uwani axis of Enugu, propelled me into robbery.
"I had acquired the gun to unleash robbery attacks on residents of Maryland in order to dispossess them of their valuables. "I was on the verge of carrying out the act when the operatives swooped on me. I do not know how they knew I was carrying a gun. I am so ashamed of myself now. I do not know what led me into this.
"My parents are crying their hearts out over this incident. They are so disappointed in me. I want to call on teenagers like me to shun robbery and other nefarious activities because the security operatives are always watching."

Responding to the recent rants by the spokesman of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organization Fani Kayode, The All Progressives Congress-APC, has said that the party does not wish him any ill health, even though it is seriously concerned about his mental state.
"No, we have never and will never wish anyone any ill health. However, we are seriously concerned that Mr. Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse," the party said in a statement issued in Dubai on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed.
"Our concern stems from the series of incoherent statements, outlandish claims and inconsistent behaviours exhibited by Mr. Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health.
"We wish Mr. Fani-Kayode well and call on him to tell Nigerians that he remains clean, despite the massive pressure of work, and that he will not do anything that will see him needing a prolonged reformation in a foreign land," it said.
APC said it is only an unstable mind and someone who is teetering on the brink that will conjure up the kind of improbable scenarios that have been put out there in quick succession by Mr. Fani-Kayode, and still believe strongly that he is doing the right thing.
The party said the APC does not harbour the kind of disturbed personalities who abound in the PDP, and who will not hesitate to publicly wish fellow Nigerians ill or dead, as long as they believe such ill-will would endear them to their masters and guarantee their political survival.

The decision of a teacher in Adamawa State to practicalise his biology lessons has led to the infection of 13 students with HIV/AIDS.
The incident occurred at Tappare-Ganye Community Islamic Centre.
The teacher, Alhassan Adamu, was said to have started sexually assaulting his victims eight years ago, but it came into the open when one of his victims, scheduled to get married on March 13, started manifesting illness that was later discovered to be HIV/AIDS.
The would-be husband demanded health screening before the wedding.
This led to the discovery of the randy teacher's dirty game.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Othman Abubakar, said that the suspect was helping the State Criminal Investigation Department in its investigation.

Still Winning! Nigerian Troops Kill 73 Boko Haram Fighters, Liberate Konduga

Nigerians soldiers in Borno state on Monday killed at least 73 members of the Boko Haram sect when the terrorists made yet another futile attempt to capture Konduga, a town 35km away from Maiduguri, the state capital.
The troops, who engaged the terrorists for over five hours, however lost a soldier in the battle.
According to one of the soldiers stationed in Konduga, the terrorists tried to attack the military base using herds of cows and a car filled with improvised explosive devices.
"They intended to take us by surprise but even before they came we had pre-information about them and we laid ambush after securing our territory," the soldier told journalists in Maiduguri by telephone.
"Initially they flocked a herd of cows into Konduga in order to create some kind of detour and confuse us to enable the suicide bomber attack from another side; but we were able to gun the vehicle from afar before it got near and the car exploded. After that, the terrorists came in large numbers and we engaged in several hours of shooting with them."
"We counted about 73 of them that were killed and many others who got injured escaped. But we lost a soldier during the shootout," the soldier said.
Residents of Maiduguri were alarmed by the sight of two military jets hovering over Maiduguri and moving to and fro the direction of Konduga for hours.
"We continued to engage them from 7 a.m. to about 1p.m. when an air force jet came to give us backup," the soldier added.
Boko Haram has attacked Konduga about 15 times in the last 10 months.
The sect appears desperate to capture the town but it has failed in every attempt it made.
The Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, could not be reached to comment for this story.
The troops, who engaged the terrorists for over five hours, however lost a soldier in the battle.
According to one of the soldiers stationed in Konduga, the terrorists tried to attack the military base using herds of cows and a car filled with improvised explosive devices.
"They intended to take us by surprise but even before they came we had pre-information about them and we laid ambush after securing our territory," the soldier told journalists in Maiduguri by telephone.
"Initially they flocked a herd of cows into Konduga in order to create some kind of detour and confuse us to enable the suicide bomber attack from another side; but we were able to gun the vehicle from afar before it got near and the car exploded. After that, the terrorists came in large numbers and we engaged in several hours of shooting with them."
"We counted about 73 of them that were killed and many others who got injured escaped. But we lost a soldier during the shootout," the soldier said.
Residents of Maiduguri were alarmed by the sight of two military jets hovering over Maiduguri and moving to and fro the direction of Konduga for hours.
"We continued to engage them from 7 a.m. to about 1p.m. when an air force jet came to give us backup," the soldier added.
Boko Haram has attacked Konduga about 15 times in the last 10 months.
The sect appears desperate to capture the town but it has failed in every attempt it made.

164 NYSC Members Get Automatic Employment, Scholarship From President Jonathan

The Federal Government, on Monday, granted automatic employment and Post-Graduate Scholarship to 164 ex- National Youth Service Corps members, who distinguished themselves during their respective service year.
The 164 ex-corps members won the President's NYSC Award during the 2012, 2013 and 2014 service years.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who announced the awards at a ceremony at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, said the gesture was to encourage the youth to do more for national development.
"Once again, I congratulate all awardees on a well-merited recognition and honour.
"The entire nation salutes the determination, courage, discipline, commitment and hard work, which you all exhibited during the service period.
"In line with our policy of encouraging our youths to always strive for excellence including serving and prospecting corps members, I hereby announce the immediate employment of the award winners.
"I know some of your state governors, Akpabio and others have employed some of you, but the remaining ones, we will absorb in the Federal Civil Service.
"Also for some of you who may want to continue with your studies, you have automatic scholarship for your post-graduate studies."

A first look at Abdulateef (surname withheld) would give the impression of a young innocent boy who would not hurt a fly. Ordinarily, the fragile-looking 16-year-old SSS1 student looked odd to be a suspect undergoing interrogation at the anti-robbery section of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Ogun State Police Command. But the allegations against him are so weighty.
Crime Reports gathered that Abdulateef was arrested on January 18, 2015 at Lambe area of Ajuwon, Ogun State after he allegedly entered the residence of a 52-year-old neighbour in the dead of the night, dispossessed her of the sum of N16,500 and went ahead to rape her, not minding the age difference between them.
The neighbour (names withheld), whose husband works as a civil servant in a South West state, was said to be sleeping in her room when Abdulateef entered her residence at about 1.40am. The suspect met the woman spread on her bed, unclad. Holding a rod that he had as a weapon, he was reported to have tapped the elderly woman awake, demanding for valuables.
The invader was said to have sent shivers down the spine of the woman by telling her that other gang members were outside, and it would be in her own interest if she cooperated, or she would be dealt with. The woman quickly handed over the N16,500 she had with her and prayed inwardly that the boy would leave her alone.
But she was shocked when the intruder commanded that she lay on her bed and spread her legs for him, as he wanted to have a good time with her. Conscious of the threat of other members laying siege, the elderly woman quickly complied and the boy had his way.
After satisfying himself, the boy went out, happy with a mission accomplished and the fact that his elderly neighbour did not see his face. But unknown to him, the woman recognized him as his neighbour's teenage son, though it was dark.
At day break, she put a call through to her husband to inform him of her experience. The husband was reported to have travelled down to his community and went to Ajuwon police station to report a case of robbery and rape. When interrogated, the teenager confessed his deeds and was promptly transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further interrogation.
Speaking with Crime Reports, Abdulateef blamed 'evil spirit' for his crime. In his explanation, he said:
"I am in SSS 1 at a high school in Ogun State. I live at Lambe area, Ajuwon with my parents. I am the first born and I have three younger ones. On January 18, 2015, at about 1a.m., I went to my neighbour's house to rob and rape. I never knew she recognised me. I have never carried out robbery before that day. I don't know made me do it but I believe I was propelled by an evil spirit."
When asked how he gained entry into the victim's house, Asamu narrated his escapade thus:
"I entered through the main door which was usually not locked. The residence was uncompleted. I met the woman sleeping. She was Unclad as she slept and the sight aroused me. I woke her up and asked her to bring all the money she had. I was holding a rod and I told her that my other gang members were outside, threatening her to cooperate or she would be dealt with.
She handed over N16,500 to me, after which I ordered her to lie on the bed. I climbed her and had $3x with her. After about five minutes, I stood up and left for my house".
The suspect said he started having $3xual intercourse in 2014 with a girl who was his age and lived in the neighbourhood. But he said the girl's family had moved out of the community.
Speaking on the events that followed his action, the teenager said:
"on the third day, the woman's husband called me and warned me not to pass through his compound again as he wanted to sprinkle charms around his compound. I later saw policemen who were brought to arrest me.

Referee Roger East was roundly criticised on Saturday when he sent off the former Red Devils defender when his team-mate, John O'Shea, should have been punished instead.
