Reports reaching Backbox Nigeria states that the House of Representatives on Tuesday in Abuja called on the Federal Government to immortalize late Dr Stella Adadevoh by naming a medical institution after her.

The lawmakers also requested that the government should compensate the families of the late consultant and other health workers who died of the Ebola Virus Disease.
Adadevoh was the consultant who treated late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought the disease into Nigeria at the First Consultant Hospital, Lagos. Sawyer died at the hospital while
Adadevor contracted the virus in the process of managing the Liberian and died shortly afterwards.

The lawmakers' resolution followed a motion by Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas (APC- Lagos State) on the need to immortalise the woman and compensate the families of health workers who contracted the disease while treating infected persons but lost their lives in the process.

Okoya-Thomas noted that forceful refusal of Adadevoh to allow late Sawyer to travel to Calabar prevented the disease from spreading to other parts of the country.

The motion was seconded by Leo Ogor (PDP – Delta) and other lawmakers concurred that the late Adadevoh deserved to be honored.

In his contribution, Emmanuel Jime (APC-Benue State) called for adequate funding of the health sector in order to protect medical practitioners.
Nkiruka Onejiocha (PDP-Abia) said that honouring Adadevoh was long overdue, adding that "if Adadevoh did not sacrifice her life for this country, who knows if we will be here today?''
In a voice vote, the lawmakers unanimously supported the motion in a session presided by the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.

BASEONE
"Am a MadMan cause am lyrically insane" – BASE ONE

With a style so intriguing, Base One real name Isaac Sotunde is seen as one of the Nigerian acts who follows the footsteps of the late lyrical genius; Dagrin. This is because people believes he also delivers his punch lines just as the Chief Executive Omoita does.

Asserting that his style of music which was acquired on and is for the "streets" led to the creation of his own acronym, BASE ONE which stands for "Be A Street Entertainer" (BASE) and the number One representing his uniqueness.

His love for music emerged from influences of hip-hop icons like SnoopLion, Lil Wayne and the influence of the yoruba lifestyles of his Ipaja Hood where he was raised. Hence his style delivery which is a mixture of street languages and slangs alongside yoruba and english languages was developed from musical influences and his surroundings.

Singles released thus far by Base One include "Five Fingas", "Surulere" and "Werey Re o!", "Lyrical Onyeara", "Mario". He was also featured on Olamide's YBNL album on the track titled 'Industreet' which also had the 'alaga Ibile', Reminisce on it.

He has however found it very difficult breaking into the 'A' list even with his versatility.

DHARSAW

He was severally referred to by a lot of people as the new Dagrin in this past but years down the line, this rap phenomenon is yet to step into those shoes. Obviously he sounds even more like Dagrin when compared to all the other 'Dagrin wanna bes'

Like the late Dagrin, Dharsaw whose real name is OLUMIDE OLOKO hails from IJEBU ODE in OGUN STATE. He Is a young, talented and versatile rapper and presently an undergraduate of international Relations and history at the University of Ilorin.

Dharsaw started rapping in secondary school and through his rap adventures he came in contact with T.Frizzle the audio visual producer afterwhich he was signed to H2O FRIZZLE & BIZZLE ENT.
He is Currently Signed To Shabba Records and is working on his debut album 'GROWN MAN'S BUSINESS'. Dharsaw has featured on so many other tracks and is at the verge of taking over the Nigerian Music Industry completely with his flows with indegineous tongue. He recently revealed that he gets his inspirations from the legendary Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, MODENINE,NIGGA RAW and LORD OF AJASA.

Dharsaw is well talented and his tracks are nice but like many other talents bound around this part of the world he hasn't broken into the 'A' list of the Nigerian music industry.‎

ISOLATE (ARA FADA)

Isolate, originally named Akan'o Oluwadamilare Adetutu hails from Ogbomosho "Agbo'le Eleshin-metta California" in Oyo state, Nigeria.
Born and raised in Lagos, he also attended schools in Lagos. This budding crooner is the only child of his parent.

He signed his first major recording deal with Mo'bb Ent owned by rapper Gino and also recorded his hit single "Ara" with the same label. He influences his fan with his indept yoruba skills and distinctive yoruba phrase and proverb. He said he was inspired by the likes of Epo akara, Haruna Ishola, baba ara, jimmy cliff and wyclef

ISOLATE is been referred to as ARAFADA because of his first single ''ARA'''
He is an energetic and thrilling performer and he has performed alongside big acts on stage. He has featured in some hit like 'gboro' by Dagrin. He has also been involved in major controversies in the past with many saying 9ice's 'photocopy' was directed at him over his copying of the Alapomeji's style.

What is however surprising is that despite his ability and great attitude towards his musical career, AraFada hasn't broken into the limelight as one of the 'A' musicians in Nigeria.

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zaria area of Kaduna state engaged in a physical combat on Monday, following a heated argument in the course of a meeting session .

Nigerian Tribune reports that the feud and rancor within the party leadership in Zaria and Sabongari local government areas of the state prevented Malam Nasir El-Rufai from holding a jaw jaw with the party executives in the two local government areas.

Malam El-Rufai, who is aspiring to be the next governor of the state under the APC Platform was supposed to have a meeting with some party chieftains from Zaria and Sabongari at the Kongo Conference Hotel and Teejay Palace Hotel.

"The meetings ended up unceremoniously due to interruption of party loyalists as a result of leadership crisis at both wards and local government levels. At the Kongo Conference Hotel, glasses of the sliding doors were broken by members who chanted offensive slogans. Also at Teejay Palace, there was a physical combat among party stalwarts who protested the presence of one of the party executive members in the meeting," a source said.

The gubernatorial aspirant was forced to address the executive members in a very rowdy session

In his words, He told them the national leadership of APC would look into the leadership crisis in Zaria and promised the people that if he emerged as the governor of the state, he would be just to all.

The former FCT minister recently declared his intention to run for the post of the governor of Kaduna state under APC platform and he confirms the reason for contesting is borne out of the need to save his state which according to him is very dear to him.

Oil mogul, Femi Otedola, has graciously been made the cover personality for the November 2014 Issue of Forbes Africa as he reclaimed the spot he once forfeited.

He appeared on Forbes' billionaires list in 2009 but couldn't retain the spot for long as he was later dropped out of the rankings after shares of his then African Petroleum (now Forte Oil) plunged by 80% following a personal feud with friend and continent's richest man, Aliko Dangote. The young entrepreneur Femi Otedola is however back on the list of African's richest.

Femi Otedola sometimes in 2011 was listed as one of Nigeria's biggest debtors who owes many banks as much as $900 million. But in 2012, he was said to have settled all his incurred debts. This claims was backed up and confirmed by both his Forte Oil and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), an institution formed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to resolve the non-performing loan assets of Nigerian banks.

Shares of publicly traded petroleum marketing company Forte Oil, where he is the controlling shareholder are up an astounding amount more than seven fold in the past year, a very large rise in the wake of a relatively smaller revenue increase. Forte Oil's revenues fell 22% in 2012 from the previous year to $568 million (N90.98 billion).
Revenues did rise in the first half of 2013 to $375 million (N59.96 billion). Some media reports tie the stock surge to an increase in profits and the recent purchase of a power plant.

His Zenon Petroleum is also one of the largest diesel distributors in Nigeria, doing over $2 billion in annual sales.

Being in a sticky situation can be very uncomfortable and frustrating; having chewing gum stuck to your hair, furniture especially clothes.
You could sit on chewed gum on the seat of a public bus,an office,a classroom or even a cafeteria.

The solution to getting out of a chewing gum sticky situation is - ICE! yes Ice.....the idea is to get the gum as cold as possible by applying ice to it for about 5 minutes then scrape off. So you don't have to get rid of those denims. Good to know!

WE AND THEM

WE AND THEM

On several platforms I have read and listened to talks, opinions and views on how the generation 'before us' have not gotten it right. The argument is premised mostly on how they have squandered the opportunity to provide a stable society despite the availability of resources and personnel at their disposal. Their involvement and participation in the machinery of administration and governance and how it shapes what we have become today as a nation and as a society is a sordid chronicle of wastefulness and avarice.

Proponents of the inclusion, involvement and participation of youths which of course in this society's scheme of things, assumes different posture and dimensions in religious set ups and political arrangements posit that at a point the onus of leadership and management of affairs of the nation will be shouldered by successive generations either it is bestowed on them willingly by the preceding generation or circumstances or time will thrust them into assumption of the mantle of leadership.

For as long as I can remember, I grew up to hear the cliché 'You are the leaders of tomorrow'. The motivation I got from my days of adolescent innocence by believing in that cliché has waned over time as reality begin to quench the zest fueled by youthful aspirations and expectant delusions.

As I grew, it dawned on me that I am bequeathed a dysfunctional society replete with diverse grades of mutual suspicion, inadequate distribution of abundant wealth, ethnic strife, class competition as well as unhealthy competition of fragmented social and economic interests. I realized the organs of government and economy is at the beck and call of those who can successfully manipulate their way to what they want by fueling varying forms of sentiments as long as it soothe their ambitions and the interests of the group they belong - ethnic or political.
Whatever factors that have led to the failure in building a society where the interest and emancipation of all and sundry have not been adequately addressed by 'THEM'. Whatever we lament today about 'THEM' and sincerely wished they would have done better, there are no indications or hope that 'WE' will do it better than THEM given the manner we engage and involve in demeaning and crass bid for opulence and power.

WE and THEM will attempt to do a thorough analysis of comparison between what is obtainable now and what was then that has led us to this quagmire that we now find ourselves. This column will attempt a wholistic comparative analysis of the attitudinal disposition of the younger generation - the leaders of tomorrow to the political, social, ethnic and economic challenges and issues that confront us everyday.
This writer acknowledge that no opinion can be totally correct when subjected to positive analytical scrutiny yet we will endeavor to discuss issues without fear or favor. Make it a date every week.

ARE THE NIGERIAN POLICE REALLY OUR FRIENDS?

No comments :
-Mubarak Tijani
Add BBN on 2BAFB965

As a young, ambitious, aspiring but timid young boy, I cherished the Nigerian police and was always in the habit of saluting them whenever I come across their van. Their cloths were amazing as it signifies the will in a group of people protecting, saving the lifes and property of fellow citizens at their own peril all in the name of serving national interest. To me it was a focal point and I always enjoy seeing them as I would happily, graciously with my smiles shining and glowing hoping that one day I would be willing to also serve my own country too. This to me is an ideal way of thinking for an average citizen of any reasonable country.

These thoughts of mine were relatively growing as I was ready to nurture same, it has always been a passion to study law and be in the force to further contribute to the development of the force.
However, the seeming reality of life dawn on me as I grew older to witness the sham called the Nigerian police. Incompetence at its peak, bribery and corruption, insincerity of purpose, and so many more, then having a rethought became necessary and the reality of life soon dawn on me as I encountered the greatest ordeal of my life so far, when I as always showcased the activism in me.

It was a fateful day while as an undergraduate preparing to take my final exams and was heading back to school and like they normally do, our police in their usual manner of cock and shoot style of threat to stop moving vehicles, stopped our vehicle and landed a slap on our driver and as a better enlightened young chap that I am, I approached the rather enraged policeman questioning the rights he has to slap and mistreat the gentle man who has obeyed him, in their usual manner of trying to intimidate any individual they sensed would create a problem to them, they would want to create a scene , he bounced on me as he reiterate severally "na u know your right abi, wetin you know sef" while hitting me with his gun saying I would kill you and nothing will happen, I continually resisted his threat but to cut the story short I was handcuffed and later taken to the station where I was thoroughly mal-treated but I was soon released because I called my friends in school who mobilized and they almost got killed too by the same police who shot at a numbers of unharmed citizens.

Flowing from the story briefly highlighted the thoughts and ambition of all reasonable citizens will gradually change about her security men if faced with same scenario in life. The Nigerian police as friends of Nigerians is well far from it as it has killed, maimed and tortured many Nigerians either directly or indirectly than even known and unknown criminals.
They have over the years displayed their taste for the bloods of innocent Nigerians, sheer incompetence in combating and investigating crimes and securing the life and property of Nigerians for which it was created.

During the recently okada ban saga in Lagos, people in their thousands have been extrajudicially killed by the so called State Security Service (SSS) and even swept some cases under the carpet if its involves the OGA'S at the TOP.

As it stands policing has become the responsibility of individual citizens as our known enemy (friend in disguise) will continually add salt to our long untreated injury, we must collectively stand by ourselves and not allow the miscreants in the popular black-black kill us all and go scot free. We must hence forth demand justice even if it is to sacrifice our time, money, energy amongst others. We must be willing and be ready to support ourselves at all times. We must not be threatened by their fist of weapon and must be ready to defend ourselves irrespective of our tribe, region and religion.

Never watch the right of your fellow man being trampled upon and not act. Am guilty of this and have vowed never to repeat same, we must stand by ourselves and must say no to our known enemy.
The Nigerian police is no friend of ours, they killing us.

"Most Nigeria Football Agents Are Thieves"- Shobowale, Kano Pillars FC

No comments :
Add BBN on 2BAFB965

From an ambitious street soccer chap in Abesan Estate, Lagos, Shobowale Azeez now plies his football trade for two-time consecutive Champions and current Nigeria Premier League leaders Kano Pillars FC as a winger. He bares it all out in an exclusive interview with Azeez Mustapha of BlackBox Nigeria,
Excerpt;

It is the dream of every locally based upcoming star to play for a top club as Kano Pillars, I know
there must be a story in your achievement?‎
It has not been easy as the first child of the family coupled with the fierce competition in the league, expectations are high, everyone looks up to you to succeed. My junior brother Ibrahim looks up to me for inspiration and I just can't disappoint.

Did you earn your parents support when you choose to become a professional football player and did your dad also play the game?
My father didn't play the game. But my parents were so keen about my success, so they have been very supportive from the onset. My junior brother plays football too having followed my footstep and he enjoys same support.

Tell us about the journey so far, before you joined this premier league heavyweight club?
I started my professional football with Bukola Babes(Abs) of Ilorin and I spent two seasons there before I moved to Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt and Shooting Stars(3sc) of Ibadan where I spent one season respectively. So when the season ended I joined Kano Pillars FC.

Did the coach sign you by himself or you where discovered by club scouts?
The coach signed me on at the end of last season, it all started when I played against his team and he collected my number after the game. So when the season ended he gave me a call to join his team and I accepted his offer.

Just like that, no negotiations or transfer fee involved between 3sc and Kano Pillars?
Majority of clubs in this league don't offer players more than one year contract, so I was already out of contract with shooting stars when he called me at the end of last season and I wanted to move to Kano pillars to play for the coach.

Being a new player in a new club with new set of teammates, how have you been able to blend with your new family?
I am a professional footballer and I don't change clubs to make new friends, so how my teammates welcome me is not my business because they are not the reason why am at the club. All I do is concentrate on my football and do what I know how to do best.

But many believes that the relationship among teammates off the field do influence the out come of games, what if you don't get the passes from the middle considering the fact that you play as a winger in the team?
We are all professional footballers, so I will get the passes on the field of play because we are our brothers keeper on the field of play and we win and lose together. So we would play together as a team because we are working towards the same goal of winning games for the team and that is why we all are here, and after the game once you have done your job and left the field nobody has time for anybody.

You play alongside one-cap super eagles player Muhammad Gambo, home-base eagles stand-out performer at the 2014 edition of CHAN, Rabiu Ali and legendary captain and goalkeeper of the team Afelokhai Theophilus, who would you regard as the most influential player in the dressing room?
Muhammad Gambo has scored so many goal for the club and was also born in Kano, so Kano Pillars is his home town club and Rabiu Ali on the other hand is also a top-performer for the team and the fans love him but the most influential player in the dressing room is the skipper, he is the spokesman for the players in and out of the field and he has been at the club since 2005. He is more like a legend and lord in the eyes of the fans and the club alike and believe me when I tell you, he is a really nice person.

You scored the all important goal against Sharks Fc in the league, how would you rate your performance?
Yes I have been performing but I can't rest on my oars because I can only get better, I have scored goals this season and I want to keep improving.

What are your immediate goals?
I want to play well enough to earn a call-up to the under-23 team from new coach Samson Siasia and hopes for a rewarding and juicy move to Europe if one comes begging.

Taking cue from the Kayode Olanrewaju vs Mr Ogunjobi's saga, I will like know if all our local players have football agents handling their transfer?
Most of the people that call themselves football agents in Nigeria are thieves and they don't have the player's career at heart, all they do is fight for their own pocket and that is why I don't have one to handle my transfers.

Just three matches to go you, must be dreaming about the third consecutive league title for the team already?
Very soon am sure the dream will come to reality by God's grace.

The world football governing body, FIFA has once again threatened to ban Nigeria from all football relating activities after the body was reported to have said "By Friday, 12 noon, all court cases challenging the Warri elections must be definitively withdrawn & Amaju's team free to work or Nigeria should forget their FIFA membership."

However this piece of information would not come as a surprise to Nigerians considering the fact that CAF president Issa Hayatou was quoted earlier in the week to have said "The world is tired of Nigeria".

As a direct response to this development the President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan is said to have invited NFF president Amaju Pinnick and other warring factions for a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday to avoid Fridays looming ban.
