Police Reveals Amaechi Lied About Attack...says shots were fired by Governor's convoy

The Rivers State Police Command has rejected claims by the state government that some thugs shot at the governor's convoy on Thursday.‎
David Iyofor, the governor's spokesperson, said the incident happened in Rumuolumeni, Obio Akpor area of Port Harcourt.

The Rivers State command spokesperson, Muhammed Ahmad, in a statement said contrary to the report, shots were actually fired from the governor's convoy.

The police said Mr. Amaechi merely raised false alarm to win public sympathy to back his ungenuine claim of being targeted by assassins.

The Police in its Statement said,
1. The Rivers State Police Command wishes to react to the news that went viral on both normal and social media quoting David Iyofor, Chief Press Secretary to Rivers State Governor to the effect that gun shots were fired at the convoy of his principal at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government.
2. To put the records straight, after a successful and peaceful rally under the close watch of Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer of the area, shots were indiscriminately fired from the convoy of the Governor for reasons best known to them, as against the wispy claim of David Iyofor. No shots were fired at the convoy of the Governor.
3. The false alarm which is the usual penchant of the State Government may not be unconnected with the bogus claim of assassination attempt by his principal that is to just whip up public sympathy.
4. The Command urges politicians to refrain from whipping sentiments by toying with security issues to create needless public panic, where there is none, please.

APC Youths Protest Ondo Deputy Governor's Defection To Their Party, Requests Refund Of N500M Defection Fee

The Akoko youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were yesterday protesting over the N500m "defection fee" being allegedly paid to the Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Ali Olanusi, for leaving the People's Democracy Party (PDP).

The angry youths, who claimed the APC wasted such huge amount on the deputy governor who is seen as ineffective, barricaded the road leading to the Supare Akoko residence of the Deputy Governor.

They were seen with placards with various inscriptions such as "We don't want liability," "How many votes does he have," "Ali must go," "BringBackOurMoney," "We don't want dead weight," and several others.

According to one of the angry youths, Tobi Oyewole, the deputy Governor's exit from the PDP has relieved the party of political burden and that no serious-minded political party can absorb any leader that has contributed nothing to his community.‎
"Ali Olanusi is a very sick old man who goes for medical check-up in Germany at least once in two weeks, he has never empowered any youth in Akoko land.
"He does not speak in public and sleeps at every government function. Olanusi did not win his ward in the 2012 governorship election in Ondo state. This is a man who doesn't even allow people to fetch water in his compound at Supare," Oyewole lamented.

Winners Church Burnt Because Of Oyedepo Support For President Jonathan

A branch of the Living Faith Church, popularly called the Winners Chapel, in Giwa, headquarters of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been set ablaze. The church, founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, was reportedly set ablaze by two unidentified arsonists, the Eagle Online reports.
During the incident that happened on March 20, 2015 at about 2:30pm, nothing was saved from the church. The burning of the church came a few months after the reported endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by Oyedepo.

A a terse statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the President of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeria (Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christians), General Ishaku Ahmed Dikko (rtd), and the Director of National Issues of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Sunny Oibe, entitled: "Presidential Elections 2015: Signs of what to expect," called on security agencies to act fast to avoid violence in the area.

According to Dikko and Oibe, the Christians in the North, particularly the Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri speaking Christians, who are indigenous in these states and live within and among their kith and kin, "are in serious jeopardy".

The statement reads in full: "Giwa is the Headquarters of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. On Friday, 20 March, 2015 at about 2:30 pm, two (2) unknown hoodlums on a motorcycle drove into the premises of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) and set it ablaze.

"The Church was razed to the ground and nothing was saved from the Church including the building. This action surprised the Christian Community, especially the Church members, as there was no tension or any sign of it between Christians and Muslims in the town. It is however, a known fact that the people of the Local Government have not been friendly with the Christian Community even though over 90 percent of them are of the same Huasa-Fulani indigenes.

"The incidence actually became more worrisome when no effort was made by a passersby to assist in putting out the fire. In fact, it was a Fulani herdsman that saw the fire and reported to the Police Station. Only one Policeman and a Christian volunteer that ran to the scene and attempted to put out the fire but of course could not achieve anything.

"This situation and the circumstances surrounding the incidence are a cause of serious concern. If this can happen more than a week to the Presidential Elections, what shall we expect during or after the elections? Is this a sign of what to expect or a dress rehearsal of a repeat of 2011 Post – Election Violence? This is a wakeup call to the Federal, State and Local Government Authorities, especially the Security Agencies. "The Christians in the North, particularly the Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri speaking Christians, who are indigenous in these States and live within and among their kith and kin are in serious jeopardy."

Civil Servant Killed By Labourer He Employed Three Days To His Retirement

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
The Emereonye family has been thrown into mourning over the gruesome murder of one of its sons, Mr. Emmanuel Emereonye, a federal civil servant.‎
It was gathered that Emmanuel was killed three days to his retirement from the service.

Emmanuel, an administrative officer at the Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, was on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, butchered by a labourer he hired to work for him in his hometown at Dioka Nzerem village, in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
It was gathered that Emmanuel had decided to build a befitting country house where he hoped to relocate to after his retirement.
He was said to have contracted some labourers to lay the foundation of the building. The labourers included one of his godson, Samuel Edomobi.

After the day's job on the fateful day, for which he had given the labourers their daily wages, it was learnt that Emmanuel was informed later in the day that Edomobi had gone to his (Emmanuel) farm to harvest palm fruits. He rushed to his farm and found Edomobi on a palm tree, harvesting palm fruits.
Emmanuel was said to have ordered Edomobi to get down from the tree, telling him that harvesting fruits from his farm was not part of the job he paid him for. An argument ensued and in the process, Edomobi allegedly used the machete he was using to harvest the palm fruits on Emmanuel.

Emmanuel was said to have taken to his heels, while Edomobi followed in hot pursuit. He was said to have caught up with him (Emmanuel) and hit him in the neck with the machete.
Edomobi was said to have left Emmanuel in a pool of blood. The neighbour that alerted Emmanuel to the fact that Edomobi was harvesting from his farm escaped from the scene and raised the alarm.

By the time the villagers reportedly arrived at the scene, Emmanuel had bled to death, while Edomobi had escaped from the scene.
It was gathered that policemen arrested Edomobi's mother, which forced the suspect to turn himself in.

It was learnt that the suspect had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigations Department, Owerri, while the body of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue.
Emmanuel's first child, Chidimma, told our correspondent on Thursday, during a visit the Emereonyes, that the family had planned to celebrate its father's birthday ,which was to be a day after his retirement, before the incident.
Chidimma, who is a second year political science student of Alvan Ikoku College of Education, said, "My father was killed three days to his retirement and four days to his birthday. He was supposed to be 60 by Saturday, March 21, 2015. We had made plans to celebrate his birthday and retirement, but all that was not to be."

The brother-in-law to the deceased, Izuchukwu Ohiaeriaku, said the family suspected conspiracy in Emmanuel's death.

According to him, there had been issues on the land where Emmanuel was building his country home, which was resolved only recently. He said the house would have been completed, but for the dispute.
"Maybe Edomobi was used to perfect a plot orchestrated somewhere. The family suspects that what killed Emmanuel may not be far from the land issue," he said.

Widow of the deceased, Ngozi Emereonye, said, "I am a housewife with six children. Where do I start from? His death is a big blow to the family and I cannot recover from it for the rest of my life."

Meanwhile, a family source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, lamented that policemen from the state CID had been extorting the family under the guise of investigation.
"The police asked us to pay N120,000 for autopsy. That was after collecting N10,000 for "police photographs", which is just to take pictures of the deceased in the mortuary," he said.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect would be taken to court once investigation was completed.

On the alleged extortion, Enwerem said, "The police does not pay for autopsy. Where do you expect the police to get that kind of money from?
"If the family can get any medical doctor that will charge them less than that amount, they should bring the person and the police will work with him. The crime is not bailable, so the suspect will remain in custody until investigation is completed."

President Jonathan Appeals Court Ruling Baring Use Of Soldiers During Elections

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
President Goodluck Jonathan, has asked the Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, to set aside the Federal High Court order, which restrained him from deploying soldiers to assist the police in providing security during the general elections, which is starting tomorrow across the country.
The judge at the lower court, Justice Ibrahim Buba, had in the suit by a House of Representatives member, Femi Gbajabiamil held that the President cannot deploy soldiers without the National Assembly's approval.
Other respondents in the suit were the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Attorney-General of the Federation. President Jonathan through his counsel, Deacon Dele Adesina, SAN, in the appeal, is praying the appellate court, to dismiss the judgement of the lower court in its entirety for lack of merit.
Jonathan in his six grounds of appeal is contending the lower court's decision did not represent the state of the law, "particularly his lordship decision regarding the validity of the originating process is not correct." Adesina faulted the lower court's reliance on the recent election petition appeal relating to the issue of the deployment of troops, which was yet to be pronounced upon by the apex court.
He is contending that trial judge erred by "dismissing the objection filed by the 1st and 6th defendants and assumed jurisdiction when he held that the plaintiff sought and obtained leave to issue and serve the originating summons outside Lagos State, when indeed the grounds of the objection was non-compliance with the provisions of Section 97 of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act."
He argued that by virtue of the "Provisions of Section 97 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act, every writ of summons for service out of the state in which it was issued shall in addition to any other endorsement or notice required by the law of such state have endorsed thereon a notice indicating that the originating process is to be served out of the state and in which state it is to be served. It is settled law that compliance with the provision of Section 97 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act is mandatory."
According to him, the trial judge erred in law when he assumed jurisdiction and proceeded to enter judgment when indeed, he lacks the jurisdiction to do so. He argued that the originating process having failed to comply with the mandatory provisions of the Sheriff and Civil Process Act was not issued according to due process and therefore, incompetent and liable to be struck out.
"A competent court cannot sit on an incompetent suit. The law is settled that where a court lacks jurisdiction, its proceedings no matter how well conducted and its judgment or orders are a nullity," he argued. Another ground of the appeal, it that the trial judge erred when he held that the plaintiff had the plaintiff at the lower court had the requisite locus standi to institute the action, as it was a matter of public litigation.
On the particulars of this ground, he said "The Plaintiff is the Minority Leader in the House of Representatives who had canvassed thse same arguments and reliefs on the floor of the House of Representatives and lost to the majority. The members of the House of Representatives are elected by the citizens to represent their interest and having lost to the majority decision in the House, he has removed this matter from the purview of public interest litigation. The appellant, therefore, wants the court to set aside the judgement of the lower court, or in the alternative, dismiss the entire suit for lack of merit.

Deputy Speaker, Political Associates Disown Ondo Deputy Governor...it's political gymnastic"-PDP

The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House Assembly, Dare Eniola, has dissociated himself from the state Deputy-Governor's decision to dumpt the PDP for the APC saying he is surprised at Olanusi's action.

Olanusi and Eniola are both from the Akoko South-West Local Government Area and had hitherto been strong political allies.

Eniola, in a statement in Akure on Thursday, asserted his continued membership of the PDP in spite of Olanusi's defection.‎
He said, "I want to use this opportunity to dissociate myself from the actions of the deputy governor, Alhaji Olanusi, who dumped the PDP for APC.
"All the honourable members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are still full-fledged members of the PDP to which I belong."

He also said the PDP would sweep the polls on Saturday despite the defection of the deputy governor, calling on all supporters of the party to remain steadfast.

The traditional ruler of Supare Akoko, hometown of Olanusi, Oba Adejoro Adedeji, also on Thursday described the deputy governor's defection as "a rude shock and embarrassment to the Supare community."

The monarch said this in a chat with journalists in Akure.

Adedeji, who noted that the defection was of no effect, said the decision of the deputy governor was unilateral as he never informed any member of the community before he defected.
"Olanusi is on his own," he said.

Also on Thursday, the PDP in Ondo State said Olanusi was never a member of the party going by the last re-registration exercise conducted in the party.
A statement by the party's Publicity Director, Ayo Fadaka, stated that the deputy governor was not registered both in his ward and local government by the party.
The Ondo PDP spokesman said, "It is however pertinent for us to underscore the fact that Alhaji Olanusi is not a member of the PDP in Ondo State as he was not re-registered in his ward and local government by the party.
"While admitting that he attended two party functions recently, he was a passive observer at such functions and his attendance does not in any manner confer membership on him.
"By his latest political gymnastic, it is obvious that he had been a clandestine member of the APC and a mole in the government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and has just received the order to declare openly for them."
He noted that Olanusi's action was intended to serve as a response to the declaration of Ikuru in Rivers, adding that "both are however not in the same cadre, while Ikuru possess the power and influence to inflict devastating damages on APC in Rivers State, same cannot be said of Ali Olanusi of Ondo State."

Mimiko Reacts To His Deputy's Defection To The Opposition APC

Barely two days to the presidential election, the Ondo State deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party to the rival All Progressives Congress in the state.

The development came barely five days after the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Mr. Tele Ikuru, dumped the APC for PDP.

In a swift reaction to Olanusi's defection, the Ondo state government said it wished the deputy governor well.
The state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, in a two-paragraph statement, said, "The state government just received the news of the defection of Alhaji All Olanusi, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, to the All Progressives Congress.‎
"Though it came as a surprise, the government acknowledges his right to determine his political affiliation and wish him well."

Announcing his defection on Thursday, Olanusi, in a statement, said, "While still being in place as the democratically-elected Deputy Governor of Ondo State, I have decided to lead my teeming supporters and well wishers in the state into the All Progressives Congress where we can find justice, fairness, equity and democratic liberty, a party to which majority of our kith and kin in Yorubaland belong.
"I have taken this decision at this critical time, in the best interest of peace, stability and good governance of our dear state and for the overall development of the South-West and the nation."

The deputy governor noted that as a result of the unfolding political development in the country, particularly in Ondo State, it was clear that he needed to chart a new course for majority of his followers who looked up to him for direction and leadership.
"They (his followers) have watched helplessly in the last six years the untold marginalisation and total exclusion from the government they laboured to put in place," he said.

The APC in the state, which received the news with delight, stated that the development signalled victory for the party in the coming elections.

The Publicity Secretary of the party, Omo'oba Adesanya, said the party welcomed the deputy governor into the party, saying more PDP members would be joining APC before the election.

He said, "We welcome him into the fold of the APC. It shows that the wind of change that is blowing is across board.
"Olanusi understands the political rhythm and he is dancing to it appropriately. Change is imminent and victory is certain."

The Rivers State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, escaped death on Thursday in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state when gunmen, suspected to be political thugs fired gunshots at him.‎
Two members of the APC were said to have been seriously injured during the incident, which happened at about 6pm. This was during a door-to-door ward campaign in the area.
It will be noted that Amaechi had claimed that he has been marked for assassination by the presidency on election day.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, David Iyofor, confirmed this development. Iyofor said the thugs threw bottles, stones and other dangerous objects at Amaechi and his entourage.
He said: "This evening, gunshots were fired at the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by PDP thugs. "Obio/Akpor is the home of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Nyesom Wike.

The thugs attacked the governor and his entourage with bottles, stones and various dangerous objects. Then gunshots were fired at the governor.
"When the governor was leaving the community, bonfire was set up on the road to prevent him from leaving. More gunshots were fired at his convoy. Amaechi was on door-to-door ward campaign in the state."

Amaechi, who is also Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, has alleged that the plot to be executed by men of the Department of State Services, DSS with backing of soldiers from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, was leaked to him by a party in the plot. The governor said that as part of the plot, a reconnaissance was carried out in his village, Ubima, on Wednesday.

The governor who claimed that security around him had been significantly depleted to pave way for the attack on him, vowed not to leave the country as family members and friends who have knowledge of the plot had sought to prevail on him.
