The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has confirmed officially that taking 'selfies' is a mental disturbance.

The APA made this classification during its annual board of directors meeting in Chicago. The disorder is called selfitis, and is defined as the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one's self  and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy, adobochronicles.com reports.

APA said there are three levels of the disorder:

Borderline selfitis : taking photos of one's self at least three times a day but not posting them on social media

Acute selfitis: taking photos of one's self at least three times a day and posting each of the photos on social media

Chronic selfitis: Uncontrollable urge to take photos of one's self  round the clock and posting the photos on social media more than six times a day

According to the APA, while there is currently no cure for the disorder, temporary treatment is available through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT ).

Yesterday was quite a funny one as social media site Twitter went agog following a an alleged tweet by former Super Eagles player and sport analyst, Victor Ikpeba through a parody account which declared support for the APC Presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari. The account @VictorIkpeba had tweeted "Even if Buhari present Nepa Bill as certificate, I would still vote for him" a tweet which quickly got thousands of retweets especially from Buhari supporters on social media. The tweet also trended on BBM as a munched version was quickly adopted by pro-Buhari supporters on the device as display picture.

However as the pomp waged on, the man at the central of the controversy, Victor Ikpeba came out to debunk the tweet while revealing that the account was being operated by an impostor. He tweeted via his official handle @V_Ikpeba that "I just want to state clearly that the recent trending statement(s) was not made by me VICTOR IKPEBA" he further tweeted "But rather by an imposter(s), I also want to use this time to again Officially announce that my Twitter Handle is @V_Ikpeba".

Although his statement still didn't deter some supporters of the APC who continued retweeting the post and using the image as display picture. Ikpeba's statement was also confirmed by revered Sport enthusiast; Colin Udoh who tweeted confirmation of the original account.

-Fredrick Nwabufo

Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers state governor, on Friday declared that he was Igbo and could speak the language while President Goodluck Jonathan whose other name is Azikiwe could not.

Speaking before a crowd of supporters at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Aba, Abia state, Amaechi said: I am a bona fide Igbo man.

"My name is Amaechi, but President Jonathan who says his name is Azikiwe cannot speak the Igbo language."

"He says his name Ebele; let him speak Igbo and let us see."

Meanwhile, Muhammadu Buhari, who was given the title of Ogbuagu 1 by the traditional ruler of Aba, emphasised that security and the economy remained the key issues in his campaign.

He extolled the entrepreneurial abilities of the Igbo, assuring them that his government would create jobs through farming and mining for the unskilled youth while local entrepreneurs would be encouraged.

"The Igbo people ARE hardworking and my government would do everything possible to ensure that the people are empowered," he said.

"The main concern of the APC is to make sure there are no idle Nigerian youths roaming the streets without jobs."

December 2, 2014 was a sad day for Mrs. Bilikis Balogun. That day, she learnt that her innocent nine-year-old girl, Nofisat, had been sexually assaulted by their 30-year-old neighbour, Ikechukwu Obasi, while she was in the market.

"He has fled his apartment since the incident. But I just want him to face justice and get punishment for what he did to my daughter," she said.

"I have never thought that the man could do that to my daughter. He was such a friendly person in our compound. All I know about him is that he is a 'Yahoo-Yahoo guy' (a description for young men who specialise in internet fraud).

According to Bilikis, she was in the market when her daughter came crying, and told her the story about how their neighbour took advantage of her at their 83, Aina Street, Pako Aguda home, in Surulere, Lagos.

Nofisat, a quiet and shy girl, whose eyes showed the painful memory of the experience she had gone through, told our correspondent that she did not suspect anything when Ikechukwu came into the room where she was reading in their apartment and gave her a N1,000 note to go and buy food for him.

She said, "I bought the food and took it to him. But because the food vendor did not give me back N850 change, he said I should go back and collect it. When I brought the change back to him, he locked the door.

"He then used a cloth to cover my mouth and I could not shout. He then carried me to the bed and did it. When he finished and I was bleeding, he said I should not tell anybody."

Later that afternoon, the girl narrated what Ikechukwu did to her to another resident of the compound, who spotted her crying in front of Ikechukwu's room.

The neighbour told her to go and report the incident to her mother in the market.

But by the time they got back, Ikechukwu had locked his room and fled. He has not been seen since then.

Ikechukwu's phone number which was provided to our correspondent, has not been available as well.

However, our correspondent visited his Facebook page with the name Eyekay Da Stika Obasi, where he posted photos up until January 2, 2015. He had yet to respond to a message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.

Ikechukwu's Facebook page states that he attended the University of Lagos and studied Psychology even though this could not be verified as a result of the fact that he did not state when he graduated.

The case was reported at the Aguda Police Division, Surulere, but the police said they had been unable to take any action because the culprit had fled.

However, Ikechukwu's family had approached Nofisat's family, pleading to pay monetary compensation to settle the matter.

"How can they tell me they want to pay N40,000 so that I would forget my daughter was raped? All I want is justice for my daughter. They have refused to produce the man," Nofisat's mother said.

When our correspondent spoke with the investigating police officer in charge of the case, he explained that he was still on the trail of Ikechukwu.

"We cannot refer to the case as a rape, it is defilement. But in the meantime, the two families are trying to settle. I have asked the family of the victim to come to my office but they have not come," the IPO, who pleaded anonymity, said.

Child Rights Activist, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, has called upon the police to do more than just tell the family of the suspect to produce him.

She said, "The police should do a thorough job of tracking down the young man. Who knows the kind of fetish thing he might have done to the girl?

"This is a lesson to parents to be wary of neighbours they leave their children alone with."

To Fight Corruption, We Would Improve Technology -President Jonathan Vows

President Goodluck Jonathan says his administration will adopt improved technology to fight corruption in the country.

The president made the statement in Enugu on Friday at the PDP presidential campaign rally.

According to him, the best way to fight corruption is through improved technology and not by jailing people for 300 years.

"With technology, you can track down criminals. I am not going to run Nigeria on my heartbeat but according to international best practices.

"I will continue to run this country based on the rule of law," the president said.

Jonathan said his administration had done a lot to transform the country, including security and infrastructure.

He said that the Federal Government was working hard to improve the working conditions of the armed forces, including the provision of hardware and other equipment.

The president said that Enugu State had also benefitted from the transformation agenda of his administration.

"We have built and rehabilitated more than 200 kilometres of roads in Enugu State. The state has also benefitted from the improved agricultural programmes as well as the automobile policy.

"Automobile companies like Innoson Motors and ANAMMCO are beneficiaries of the automobile policy of this administration,'' he said.

On the ongoing terminal project at the Enugu International Airport, the president said he had directed the contractor handling the project to expedite action on it in order to boost the economy of the South East.

He urged the youths of voting age to endeavour to get their permanent voter cards and choose leaders of their choice.

Jonathan thanked Governor Sullivan Chime and the people of the state for their unalloyed support for the PDP and promised to do more for them.

In his contribution, Vice President Namadi Sambo urged the people to vote Jonathan and the PDP in February to ensure continuation of the transformation of the country.

Earlier, Adamu Muazu, the national chairman of the party, and Ahmadu Ali, the director general of the Presidential Campaign Organisation, commended the people of the state for their "unprecedented" support for the president and the party.

Ali described Chime as one of the shining lights of implementation of the PDP manifesto.

Other speakers include Godswill Akpabio, the chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, and that of the South East Governors' Forum, Theodore Orji of Abia.

They all pledged to deliver PDP in the February general elections. (NAN)

Is it Buhari who can't remember his phone number that wants to change Nigerian economy -Jonathan throws jabs at Buhari again

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday during a rally in Enugu said that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), cannot remember his own mobile phone number.

Jonathan, whose unscripted address was mostly a response to previous statements made by Buhari, accused the APC presidential candidate of deceiving Nigerians by promising to revive the economy without explaining how he would achieve the feat.

The President wondered how Buhari would develop the country's economy, a feat he could not achieve while he was in office as head of state between 1983 and 1985.

"Is it now that Buhari cannot even remember his own phone number that he can change the economy of the country." Jonathan asked.

The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate said that although he did not like to "go personal during campaigns," "sometimes circumstances demand that certain things must be said."

Jonathan said that Buhari belonged to the medieval age, adding that he (the APC candidate) intended to run the Federal Government as a medieval king.

He said, "We cannot run the government as if we are in the medieval age; we cannot run a government where somebody said he would throw people into jail.

"You are not a medieval king – a medieval king can throw you into jail but we have to follow the rule of law because we cannot go back to the old days."

Jonathan, however, read the speech made by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) after overthrowing Buhari's regime through a military coup on August 27, 1985 to justify his claim that the APC candidate does not keep his promises.

Babangida, in the portions of the address read by Jonathan, justified Buhari's overthrow by pointing out that the latter did not live up to the promises he made to Nigerians when he ousted a democratically elected civilian government headed by Alhaji Shehu Shagari in a military coup.

Noting that Buhari "deceived Nigerians" from 1983 to 1985, Jonathan quoted Babangida as saying, "The initial objectives of Buhari's intervention were betrayed as there was a general deterioration of standard of living in the country."

The PDP candidate also pointed out that Babangida accused Buhari of being "too rigid in his attitude to national issues" and "became alienated from the people" in the course of his stay in power.

He, therefore, challenged Buhari to tell Nigerians how he intends to revive the economy.

Jonathan said, "They are telling young Nigerians that they are going to change the economy but they have not told us how they want to manage the economy more than us.

"If they say they want to change agriculture, they should tell us the weak links in the agriculture value chain and what they want to do about it.

"I said in Lagos that I want to work with young people, not to deceive people.

"I am not going to run the government based on my habits, I am going to run the government according to global best practices."

Jonathan also insisted that he was committed to the campaign against corruption.

"There is no government that has fought corruption more than we do," he said, noting that some previous administrations pretended to be fighting corruption while oppressing their enemies.

He recalled that Buhari jailed some prominent Igbo politicians while in office as head of state, including former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme and former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo.

Stressing that Buhari jailed politicians on trumped up charges, Jonathan said, "You can no longer carry people and put them in prison for 301 years."

The President equally accused Buhari of having a wrong idea of corruption.

According to him, Buhari believes that every wealthy Nigerian is corrupt.

He said, "If a Nigerian businessman has a private jet, then you are corrupt but if a South African has a private jet then you commend him.

"If you have a good house, then you are corrupt, if you have a good car then you are corrupt – that is his definition of corruption."

Jonathan accused his opponent of making spurious claims against him.

The President said, "They are saying that government is corrupt but they are not telling us what they are going to do to stop corruption. Let them go back to their consultants to coach them, then I will listen to them.

"They should tell us how they are going to manage the economy better than we do.

"They are saying we stole foreign reserves, nobody can steal foreign reserves – spurious allegations."

He also reiterated his claim that Buhari did not equip the military while he was the head of state.

Jonathan said that he had done more than his predecessors to shore up the country's defence.

"For 30 years, we had only one frigate, now we have four additional frigates," he said.

In the same vein, he pointed out that Buhari did not find any woman worthy enough for appointment when he was the military head of state.

The President asked Nigerians to assess him and Buhari by looking at how they performed during their respective periods in office.

He said, "They have deceived us before and they want to deceive us again.

"Go and find out whether these people are deceiving you or are telling you the truth.

"People are assessing me because I have run this country for some years – they have run this country for two years.

"They came with promises but immediately they came in, what they did was to jail Jim Nwobodo for 201 years

"We have no plans to Kill President Jonathan" -MEND speaks out

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

President Jonathan had said at a PDP rally in Lagos Thursday that MEND tried to assassinate him on two separate occasions, pointing out that the leader of the organisation, Henry Okah, now serving a jail term in South Africa, was paid to assassinate him in 2010.
This was even as an ex-militant general, Godsday Smith, alias Bouninawei (the god of the forest), yesterday, in Warri, Delta State, said there was no way ex-agitators in the Niger- Delta region would abandon President Goodluck Jonathan for General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), just as he maintained that Jonathan's indictment of ex-militants on plot to kill him was hasty and uncalled for, adding that there was no time ex-militants conspired against his government.
Smith asked Jonathan to be bold enough to confront the North which was planning his downfall using the Boko Haram insurgents.

However, MEND's Spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, said, "We challenge President Jonathan to come out and reveal to the nation the names of the persons he claimed paid Mr Henry Okah to assassinate him.

Goodluck Jonathan should also explain why these persons, as he obviously knows who they are, were not arrested, tried and convicted."

In an electronic mail by Gbomo, MEND said it was untrue that it planned to kill Mr President.
"MEND views the President, Goodluck Jonathan's recent campaign rally speech as the most outrageous and ridiculous speech by any President, where he openly accused Mr Henry Okah of being paid to assassinate him."

"Mr President, the MEND says thank you for vindicating every word in our recent statement of endorsement of General Muhammadu Buhari and for also solidifying your status."
"The MEND would like to state clearly that our endorsement of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential candidate, has absolutely nothing to do with Mr Henry Okah.

"Nigerians may recall that prior to the bomb blast of October 1, 2010; the MEND issued a warning of an impending attack on Eagle Square, Abuja , where we also advised the public to stay clear of any parked vehicles to avert any casualties.
These warnings were ignored by the Nigerian security agencies, hence the unfortunate and regrettable casualties
"If as Goodluck Jonathan claimed, that he was a target of an assassination attempt, why did we issue a prior warning?

Where in this world would an assassin warn their targets in advance of an attempt on their lives?
This allegation by Goodluck Jonathan, further confirms our earlier assertion of how he takes Nigerians as silly as he seems to have forgotten how he openly came out to absolve MEND of any involvement in the attack.

"Rather than address his administration's failures, he chose to descend so low by using a very cheap bare faced (method) to get sympathy. Is this the kind of President the country wants to be stuck with for another four years of misery?

"On the National Dialogue report, Goodluck Jonathan has finally resorted to cheap blackmail by urging the nation to vote for him as a condition to implementing the report. What a blatant insult!
Despite all the billions of Naira spent on that jamboree?

"At this point, the MEND urges the nation to use the power of their votes in securing this great country from the claws of Jonathan's corrupt and inept government and the People's Democratic Party, PDP."

Also in his reaction to Jonathan's allegation, an ex-militant general, Godsday Smith, said there was no way ex-agitators in the Niger-Delta region would abandon President Goodluck Jonathan for General Buhari, just as he stressed that there was no time ex-militants conspired against his government.

He told Saturday Vanguard on phone in Warri that the controversial endor-sement of All Progre-ssives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, by the non-operational Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, was a manipulation by the party.

Though, he rebutted the claim by President Goodluck Jonathan that MEND plotted to kill him he stated, "Jonathan is our son, there is no way ex-agitators of Niger Delta will support Buhari against their son, President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general elections."

His words: "The APC manipulated the purported online statement with the name of MEND to boost their dying camp and I want to say that such treachery should stop forthwith.

"There was no time MEND issued any press statement against President Ebele Jonathan, the purported online statement was manipulated by APC and I use this medium to urge the general public and their numerous supporters to disregard such as unfounded."

He stressed that ex-militants and the entire Niger Delta region had confidence in Jonathan and had passed a vote of confidence on him.

Nigeria Tops Global Ranking Of P.orn Viewers

No comments :

Irrespective of turmoils at home, it appears Nigerians still make out "sacred time" to view p•rn on the internet. According to a new report by Independent UK, Nigeria tops the ranks of people who view indecency on the African continent as well as sit ontop some of the largest global viewers...
Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Indecency viewers are switching to mobile to consume media too, Pornhub has said in its review of 2014, in keeping with trends across the media industry.
After YouTube, Twitter and Facebook's much more safe for work years in review, Pornhub has offered its own data. Pornhub's 2014 Insight report is a trove of insights — and is safe for work, too — breaking down searches by nationality, gender and looking at what events sent Indecency traffic up or down.

The site also laid out its traffic numbers for the year. It saw an average bandwidth usage of 50GB per second — made up of 78.9 billion video views, or 11 for every person on earth.

There were 18.36 billion total visits in 2014. The countries with the most visits per person were the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Norway.
In keeping with the trend to mobile across other media sites, Pornhub said that visits from tablets had risen 20 per cent, and visits from mobile were up 12 per cent. Desktop traffic was down 13 per cent.

The company said that listing its restriction of five views per visit for mobile users had helped drive the surge in traffic.

That was spread differently across different countries. In Germany, for example, many are still using desktops, whereas 56 per cent of visits in the US came from mobile phones. But every country was logging on using desktop computers less than they did in 2013.

Turkish mobile traffic rose most of anywhere — up 635 per cent in 2014. Indonesia rose 457 per cent, and Estonia, Bolivia, Ukraine and Nigeria all had increases of 100 per cent to 150 per cent.

Android is the most popular operating system among those mobile users, and is gaining. BlackBerry accounts for only 1.4 per cent of visits, after falling 47.6 per cent last year.
