Nollywood Producer Attacks Kunle Afolayan Over Igbo Comments

Despite his apology, Nollywood producer, Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi has condemned Kunle Afolayan's controversial tweet tagging Igbos as the main perpetrators of piracy in Nigeria, insisting that the celebrated producer cum director is not the praises that have been showered on him.‎
Ikpoenyi, popularly called Mr. Hollywood, decided to express his anger against Afolayan, calling the tweet useless and the producer undeserving of all the praises he has been getting.
Ikpoenyi said: "I almost ignored Kunle Afolayan's useless tweets about Igbos being the only Pirates in Nigeria, because to me, Kunle is just an over rated Nollywood film maker. He's not better than Izu Ojukwu, Teco Benson, Obi Emelonye, Chineze Anyaene to mention but a few.

The secret of Kunle is his DOP, Yinka Davies, who does everything for him and at the end of the day, Kunle will just come and announce 'action'… Give him another local DOP and see if Kunle is worth all the praises his kinsmen shower on him. Kunle should thank Peace Anyiam Osigwe for giving him the platform of AMAA as a pedestal to limelight. Trust me, if Kunle walks the street of Onitsha, Aba, Enugu or any where outside Yoruba land, not even one person will recognise him as a celebrity. I will rather worry myself with the Oba's threat to Ndigbo than spend one second of my time thinking about Kunle's senseless tweets about the Igbos".

Respected Nollywood film maker and actor Kunle Afolayan took to twitter a few hours ago to blame the 'Igbos' for piracy in Nigeria. The October one producer went as far as saying 'May God strike all of you' (the igbos)

Although he has long apologized and deleted his tweets, but some Nigerians dragged him over hot coals and as well gave him a piece of their mind.

Uche Jombo and Ali Baba was also amongst those that called him back to order.
In her reaction, Nollywood actress and producer; Uche Jumbo felt embittered with Afolayan's spat. In a series of tweets, she criticised the 'Phone Swap' producer for his "tribalism" "Every film maker is sad abt piracy..its a war we should all fight and hope to win one day but I repeat #piracyIsNotATribalThing" "Interestin 2 see any1 in nollywood insult igbos abt piracy since without THEM we might nt even hv Nollywood of today#piracyIsNotATribalThing"

Afolayan's initial tweets reads; "It is a fact that most of the people I see selling pirated CDs and VCDs are Igbo. 1 even threatened me after I seized my film from him, why?"
You all sit on social media and run your mouth. Try and put your money into production and see how it feels. Scream tribalism if you like."‎
May the wrath of God strike all of you. An average film maker out there put their all, I mean all into making the film and some MF enjoy…."

When the bashing on him by his angry fans and colleagues became too much and unbearable, the ace film maker ate the humble pie, deleted some of his hate tweets and apologised.
" My distributor is Igbo,I like and trust him but he mentions his frustration all the time. His kings-men are on his tail.We are all frustrated.
Am really sorry if my Igbo fans and friends feel offended.I am just so bitter and pained. I am truly sorry.
Apologies ones again to my offended innocent Igbo brothers and sister, maybe it's wrong timing and mind you o didn't say all Igbo.
I am a patriotic Nigerian and that I portray in all my movies. Phone swap is even more of Igbo film than any other tribe. Again. I am sorry
Finally, I stand to say my grievances has got nothing to do with the trending Oba's statement. It all came out of frustration. Sorry guys,"
he wrote.

The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje has responded to the threat by Oba Of Lagos' .
In his words posted on his facebook page, he said:
In the words of Winston Churchill: "Never, never, never give up."
I'm aware of the intimidation that a lot of you might be facing as we head into the final stretch of this election campaign. I get it. I understand what you are going through because I also had to face it in the course of this campaign, if this serves as any consolation.

One thing I've learnt in life, however, is that the people who threaten you, knowingly or unknowingly, further validate your importance and underscore advantage. I would like to take this time to encourage you all not to respond to intimidation with violence but rather confront it with the collective power of your votes. Change is coming to Lagos. Tell your friends and families.
I hope you all had a pleasant Easter celebration.

INEC Claims It Is Set For Saturday Governorship Polls

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has expressed optimism that the challenges witnessed in the Presidential and National Assembly elections of March 28 will not reoccur in the April 11 governorship election.

The spokesman for the chairman of the INEC, Mr Kayode Idowu, told Channels Television on Monday that the commission had addressed issues related to card reader workability and distribution of election materials.

Explaining the actions that the INEC had taken to address the issues, Mr Idowu said: "The challenges that accounted for what we saw on Mach 28 included the fact that a particular network provider's SIM card ought to have been activated with a mobile phone before they are inserted. The commission has given an instruction that every card of that network must be activated first in a phone before they are inserted into the card reader".‎
"Another issue that was noticed is that the protective film that should have been removed was left in the card reader, making it impossible for the card reader to work," he said.

According to him, the commission had also addressed the issue of the handling of the materials by the ad-hoc staff.
"With all these things in place, the commission is home and dry that we will be able to use the card reader very well on April 11."

Mr Idowu pointed out that the card reader worked in a substantial number of the polling units, saying it only failed in one per cent of the 155,000 voting points across Nigeria on March 28.
"The Commission has given directive to the state that everybody who handles the card reader must be a trained staff.
"More technical staff will be deployed from the headquarters to address any challenges on the field.
"We are optimistic that we will not have the kind of challenges that we had on March 28 on April 11," he said.

On the issue of transportation of materials, Mr Idowu said the INEC had met on April 2 and identified about six broad areas where challenges were identified on March 28.

He said that one of such was the activation of the Registration Area Centres (RACs), which according to him, did not function adequately on March 28.

Material are meant to stay overnight at the RACs and moved to the polling units the next day, a process Mr Idowu expressed optimism that it would work effectively on April 11.

The spokesman for the INEC chairman said the chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, had instructed that the RACs must be operational on April 11.

Former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mike Aondoakaa, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Aondoakaa told Vanguard, yesterday in a telephone interview in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, that he was leaving partisan politics to take care of his personal businesses as well as  engage fully in his law practice.
He said, "I am leaving politics to fully engage in a bigger law practice and also tend to my businesses. I have already tendered my resignation letter to the party."
On the allegation making the rounds in the state that he intended to decamp to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aondoakaa said it wasn't true.
"I am not joining any party, it's not true. I am leaving now before anyone starts saying anything or insinuating anything, I am quitting partisan politics," he said.
Aondoakaa also debunked allegations that he worked against PDP during the last elections, describing them as not only unfounded but baseless.
"I never worked against the PDP, on the day of the elections. I only went to the polling booth and cast my votes. All I told the people was that they should vote according to their conscience and also defend their votes. I never worked against any party. The allegation is baseless." he added.

Ezekwesili, Others Also Condemns Oba Akiolu Over 'Vote Ambode Or Die' Comment Online

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, is among several Nigerians who have strong words for Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, over his reported death threat against the Igbos if they do not vote for Lagos All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Saturday.
These Nigerians expressed their outrage against the Oba's tirade in their online posts.

Ezekwesili, one of the Coordinators of #BringBackOurGirl campaign, expressed shock at the utterance of the monarch, who reportedly threatened the leaders of the Igbos, whom he addressed in his palace on Saturday, with death if they refused to support efforts to vote Ambode as Lagos State governor on April 11.
She said, "It was shocking to hear applause by the audience at the meeting where Oba of Lagos made those statements. Kai, citizens, you're better than this!

Gboyega Ajibade, in his reaction, described the Oba's statement as unfortunate, calling for Akiolu's immediate suspension.
Ajibade stated, "This is quite unfortunate. The Ibos can vote according to what their conscience desire. Is this a threat or blackmail? Coming from an Oba of his caliber? Money has destroyed his personality and as the saying goes, 'He who the Gods want to destroy, they first make mad'.
"We voted out impunity. Is this what we should be expecting, a power drunk Oba? What role is he playing? Trying to burn down Lagos and get the Yorubas in the East killed? He needs to be suspended immediately.
"I am a Yoruba and I completely dissociate myself from this mad rant. If Ambode wants the Ibos vote, he should canvass for it."

Omolaja Nofiu, who identified himself as a Yoruba man, condemned the monarch's style of "forcing people against their consciences, legal rights and freedom."
He described such style as Satanic.
He added, "It is time that individuals must take a stand to allow light to triumph over darkness, truth over continuous lies, genuine democracy over illegal and ungodly domination and god-fatherism in Lagos and by extension, Nigeria.
"Nobody has the legal right to determine the destiny of people by coercing them to vote against their consciences. It is illegal, evil and Satanic. This is a dangerous precedence that only bond-slaves and those who have no God, will collude with.
"(President Goodluck) Jonathan too must prove to the world that the genuine safety of Nigerians is important to him than his personal interest, by providing effective police security at the polls (and military on the streets). That must be continuous, otherwise another type of Boko-Area-Boys may emerge in Lagos soon against non-indigenes.

One Uwawaren DazzlingSmile contended that Akiolu's outburst was hypocritical, telling the monarch to remember that he was only entitled to one vote.
He said, "How can you support a man who wants to impose his choice on others in a democracy. Oba sir, you are entitled to only one vote. Use it to vote for Ambode for all I care; it is one man one vote.
"Lagos does not belong to you. God Almighty is the owner of Lagos. He can depose you or take your life, if it pleases him. Remember Nebuchadnezzar, Saddam (Hussein), (Sani) Abacha, etc. God is watching!"

D Truth described the reported comments of the Oba as unbelievable.
"I can't believe what I'm hearing, just unbelievable; how dare him say such? Thought Tinubu says this man has integrity. Now I understand what he meant," he added.

Prisoner of Conscience believes the royal father goofed to have made such an outburst.
It says, "I think the Oba really erred to have made such uncompromising statements which he needs to formally address. But on the other hand, going to have a closed door meeting with an Oba and going there with a voice recorder is an insult on the Crown. Access to smart phones is not access to madness; our royal institutions must be kept royal."

Governor Fayose Says Nobody Has Served Him Impeachment Notice

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has again dismissed the impeachment notice allegedly posted online by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While speaking at an audience participatory programme, 'Meet Your Governor' on Monday, Governor Fayose, said that those plotting his impeachment were the same enemies of Ekiti State that plotted his exit from office in 2006.
He said: "Nobody served me any impeachment notice. I only saw the notice online like every other person. I'm like Israel that is in the midst of enemies but will always prevail. Whoever wants to remove me will first have to impeach God".

Fayose added that the APC people were trying to get at him because he wholeheartedly supported President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election bid.‎
"Let me say it again, I have not been served any impeachment notice. The House of Assembly is also on recess and Dr Adewale Omirin is not the speaker of the State House of Assembly.'
"Omirin is in court, challenging his impeachment and he can't be challenging his impeachment in court and at the same time laying claim to being Speaker," he said.

While urging the APC to accept defeat, as done by President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Fayose said: "By the power of God, they lost 16 – 0 on June 21, 2014, they lost 16 – 0 again on March 28, they will lose 26 – 0 on Saturday, April 11″.

Governor Fayose had earlier dismissed the impeachment plot, saying "the script being acted by the APC is a failed one because no one, no matter how highly placed he is, would be allowed to test the will of Ekiti people".

APC Calls For Re-shuffling Of INEC In Abia

No comments :

The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called for the immediate reshuffling of the Independent National Electoral Commission ad-hoc staff ahead of the April 11 governorship and House of Assembly polls.

The APC Chairman in the state, Donatus Nwankpa who made the call at a press conference on Monday in Umuahia, said this had become necessary following widespread irregularities that characterised the presidential election.‎
He said that the APC would vigorously resist any attempt to repeat result falsification in favour of the ruling party as allegedly witnessed in the Presidential and National Assembly polls.
Nwankpa who accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party of using the Transition Committee Chairmen at the council areas to doctor the results of the poll, called for the cancellation of all National Assembly results in the state.
He threatened that the party would announce its own result if INEC failed to heed the call and make public the original results obtained at the various polling units which he alleged were manipulated at the collation centres.

Nwankpa also called for the discontinuation of the use of council headquarters as collation centres during the forthcoming polls, alleging that agents of opposition parties were denied access to the centres while the TC chairmen colluded with some allegedly compromised INEC ad-hoc staff to subvert the people's will.
The APC, however, restated confidence in the use of card readers, saying that it had significantly helped in eliminating electoral fraud but regretted that results were tampered with at the collation centres.

Present at the press briefing were the governorship candidate of the party, Chief Nyerere Anyim; a member of APC Board of Trustees, Chief Sam Nkire; former Deputy Governor, Chief Chris Akomas; and a former governorship candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, Paul Ikonne.

APC Cries Out Over Attack On Members In Rivers

No comments :

The All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm over the rising cases of killing and maiming of its members in Rivers State, in the run up to next Saturday's governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said this at a press briefing in Abuja, on Monday.‎
He said the APC was worried that the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Mr. Nyesom Wike, aided by the security agencies, had continued to kill and maim its members and supporters.
Mohammed said that last week, nine members of the APC were killed in cold blood, while many others were injured, when suspected armed PDP thugs invaded Obrikom and Obor communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government of Rivers state.

The APC also alleged that these same thugs set ablaze the residence of Vincent Ogbagu, a candidate for the House of Assembly elections.
The statement read, "APC members have been subjected to persistent harassment and intimidation across the state, using the police in Rivers and the Zone 6 in Calabar. Over 150 prominent members have been victims of this unprovoked persecution.
"Just today (Monday), we received sad news from Rivers. An APC chieftain, Christopher Adube, was reportedly shot dead over the weekend. Adube, who hails from the Egbema Local Government Area, was said to have been shot dead at his residence
"These are just some of the instances of what APC members and supporters in Rivers State have been subjected to in recent days."

However, Wike denied the allegations.
Wike who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, said the APC should look elsewhere to peddle its lies.

Ekiti Drama! Deputy Gov, Fayose's Supporters Occupy Assembly

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965
Some concerned citizens of Ekiti State and particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday laid siege on Ekiti State House of Assembly following the rumour that the 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers in the assembly were planning to hold a sitting on Monday to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The concerned citizens had converged on the Assembly as early as 8.30 am and took over the  complex.
They blocked all major roads leading to the House with the motive of preventing the APC lawmakers from gaining access.
They practically turned the premises of the assembly into a fun centre, as they brought tables, generators, food and loud music.

Some of those  that occupied the assembly complex yesterday included Deputy Governor, Dr Kolapo Olusola, former Speaker, State House of Assembly, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi, Special Assistant to the Governor on Information, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, his colleague in the Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, and a host of others.
Though, they conducted themselves in a peaceful manner, the mobile policemen that were drafted to the area came in nine Hilux vans and officials of  the Department of State Service , DSS, who were heavily armed were stationed at  the two entrances of the Assembly Complex.
The invaders danced to the music supplied in front of the old Assembly Complex, where they were restricted by security agencies.
They, however, vowed to keep a vigil in the assembly, asking the APC lawmakers to impeach Fayose in their presence.
Briefing newsmen on why they converged at the Assembly, Ogunsuyi said the Omirin-led lawmakers erred in law by claiming that they  sent a notice of impeachment to the Governor, saying it was a complete misfire for Omirin to be claiming speakership while also challenging his impeachment in the court of law.
He said: "The new Nigeria which President Goodluck Jonathan and Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari all campaigned for is the one that would respect the rule of law.
''With this convergence, you can see that the people are standing by their governor. They are ready to defend their mandate.
"Nobody asked Omirin and other APC lawmakers not to come to the Assembly, they only decided to abdicate their duties since last year November 17. Impeachment procedure does not start and end with Assembly alone. The judiciary is involved, so this plan is highly condemnable.
"We want to emphasize that they are welcome as long as they are concerned about making laws for the progress of the state, but if it was meant to come and impeach Governor Fayose, we won't allow that."
Ogunsuyi, however, said the governor as the leader of the state will continue to spread olive branch to the lawmakers for the state to remain in peace and harmony.
"We don't want any unwholesome issue because the task of developing Ekiti is an onerous task that needs to be pursued with vigour. The governor doesn't want any distraction and that is why he has been pursuing peace at all times.
"We want some measures of decorum in Ekiti. We are not proud of the era whereby we had three governors within a week. We want a stable government and that we will continue to pursue for Ekiti to be at peace."
Also commenting on the current tension in the state, former Speaker, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi, advised the APC lawmakers to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode, has promised not to discriminate against any tribe if he is voted into office, a statement on Monday said.

Ambode was quoted as saying this barely a day after the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, reportedly threatened the Igbo voters in the state to either vote for Ambode on Saturday or be drowned.
The APC candidate, while receiving 20 buses from a group, Nigeria Progressive Ambassadors, in Lagos, said, "Every group in Lagos is safe in my hands as governor. I will not discriminate against any religious or ethnic group. It is our Lagos and we must build it together.‎
"In my acceptance speech after the primaries I made this note that I will be a governor for all and Lagos is safe in my hands. I want to build on the foundation of unity, peace and progress and development laid by my predecessors.
"I am your best choice for a Lagos that must continue to thrive. And though tongue and tribe may differ we stand in brotherhood in Lagos from the smallest ethnic groups to the major ones. We are all stakeholders".

General Secretary of the NPA, Miss Vuakpor Ojo, who spoke for the group, said members were made up of young persons who strongly believe in the future of Lagos and the country as a whole.
Ojo said, "We are body of forward-thinking Nigerians who are ready to partner with people who have the ability to give an enabling future to this state and sustain its excellence".
"You are one of us, and these donation of 20 buses depicts our commitment to the cause to make a detribalised leader like you, who understands the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, govern the state starting May 29."

Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has denied saying Igbo who vote against Ambode, will die in the lagoon.
Akiolu, in a statement by one of his white cap chiefs, Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, who is the Opeluwa of Lagos, said the words of the monarch were taken out of context.
The statement read, "My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where Oba Riliwan Akiolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.
"Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to Oba Akiolu. At the meeting the visitors praised the oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbo in Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighbourliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that'll further strengthen that harmony.
"The oba thereafter called on the Igbo chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate, Mr. Ambode, for continuity of excellence as they had earlier promised."

The statement added that Akiolu said whoever works against the interest of Lagos would end up in the lagoon in line with tradition.
The statement added that the issue of 'lagoon' was expressed in proverbial terms.

Oba Akiolu Of Lagos Attacked Over Vote For Ambode Or Die Scandal

No comments :

The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, Chief Bode George, has berated the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, for allegedly threatening Igbo people to vote for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, or face death.

George said this at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday which was attended by a former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; the PDP Chairman in the state, Tunji Shelle; and other party leaders.
George said it was unfortunate that Akiolu had openly taken sides with a political party. He urged the monarch to relinquish his crown and go into partisan politics if he could not remain neutral.
He said, "The Oba of Lagos is my friend but we belong to different political parties. I was shell-shocked when I heard the comments by my friend telling our Igbo brothers – because they decided who to vote for PDP – that he would curse them to run into the Lagos lagoon. By the grace of God that will never happen.
"He said he owns Lagos. There is a need to draw a line between who a kabiyesi is and who a governor is. The kabiyesi is a traditional ruler and father of all. If he wants to play politics like some of us, he should leave that throne, come out and meet us on the field.
"We should not denigrate that office and use it as a political platform to deride other parties."

Also speaking, Ogunlewe said the PDP decided to give Igbo House of Representatives and House of Assembly tickets because the party had accepted them as Lagosians.
Ogunlewe said now that three non-indigenes have won seats in the National Assembly, Igbo in Lagos would have better representation. He, therefore, urged them not to be threatened by Akiolu and come out to vote for Jimi Agbaje on Saturday.

A PDP member, Mr. Oghene Egboh, who recently won the Amuwo Odofin federal constituency election, said many non-indigenes were being attacked by APC supporters because of their support for the PDP.

In a separate statement, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, described as unacceptable the alleged threat by Akiolu.

Fani-Kayode, in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, said many of President Goodluck Jonathan's supporters in the North received similar threats before the March 28 election.
He, however, urged the APC to call its supporters to order as no party had a monopoly of violence.
He said, "The truth is that we were threatened with ethnic cleansing and religious carnage in the North had Gen. Muhammadu Buhari not won the presidential election on March 28 and had President Goodluck Jonathan not quickly conceded defeat.
"We let that go and kept the peace but now our traditional supporters are being threatened in Lagos and in many other states as we approach the April 11 governorship elections.
"Let it be clearly understood by all and sundry that any attempt to kill, maim or molest our supporters will be deemed unacceptable and will be met with defiance, contempt and a well-orchestrated and solid resistance."
He called on the non-indigenes in Lagos to ignore the monarch and come out en masse to vote for Agbaje on Saturday.

Also, the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria has called on Akiolu to withdraw the curse he allegedly placed on Igbo over Saturday's governorship election in Lagos State.
The CCFN said the Lagos monarch's utterances amounted to threat and intimidation.
It said that it understood Akiolu's fear of losing the city to strangers but that Lagos has been one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Africa for decades "and any citizen contributing to its economy and politics can be a bonafide resident."
The CCFN, an organ of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, in a statement by its Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, condemned Akiolu's comments, saying the monarch missed the point because "Nigeria is a republic and a democracy and not a monarchy."
