The Ilaje in Lagos State have lamented "the politics of exclusion" playing out in the state.
They described the situation as unfortunate as no Ilaje person is holding any position of authority in Lagos despite their large numbers in every local government area of the state.

Speaking at a meeting of the Ilaje community, held at Mainland Hotel, yesterday, they said it is time to take their rightful position in the politics of Lagos.
Present at the event were two prominent Ilaje sons, Dr Olu Mafo and Dr Bode Kalejaiye, among others.
Sakeholders from the community took turns to explain why the Ilaje community has not taken its rightful position in the scheme of things in Lagos.
According to one of them, "it is very unfortunate that today in Lagos, go to places like Ikeja and Apapa, you will realize that Kwarans are the ones controlling their party politics, a situation that further confirmed we have been sidelined in the scheme of things in the politics of Lagos State".
Another stakeholder stated that the Ilaje community has erudite scholars qualified to take positions but unable to do so because of lack of cooperation.

Another participant said, "Things can only get better if we come together. Enough is enough. Ilaje community cannot continue to live like a second class citizen in the politics of Lagos where they have large numbers". Some of the participants who spoke on the condition of anonymity after the event maintained that the meeting might not be unconnected with the emergence of Mr Akinwumi Ambode as the flagbearer of the All Progresives Party (APC) who is considered as one of their own.
According to one of them, "we are going to give all our support to ensure Mr Ambode emerges the next governor of Lagos at the forthcoming elections and that is why this gathering is necessary for us to rub minds and see how we can move forward".
Another participant decried a situation whereby one of the aspirants that contested with Akin Ambode stated that "one son of Ilaje cannot come and rule Lagos".

The occasion was the 60th birthday celebration of former ousted Governor and APC chieftain, Engr. Segun Oni who surprisingly had glowing words for Governor Fayose.
Oni thanked Governor Ayodele Fayose for restoring his privileges as a former governor of the state, describing him as a brother.

It was however not a straight frolicking as one of the special guest at the occasion, the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun hammered the PDP's bad leadership criticising President Goodluck Jonathan and his predecessor, the late Umar Yar'Adua.

The high point for observers was however watching Fayose and Fayemi relate like really good friends with no strain whatsoever.

THE Nigerian Military, yesterday, put up a brave fight against hundreds of Boko Haram terrorists who attacked the dynamite-manufacturing town of Ashaka in Gombe State.
Their plan was to overrun the town. After several hours of fighting, the Nigerian Army lost 10 soldiers while over 70 Boko Haram terrorists were killed with scores of them sustaining serious gunshot injuries – most of the terrorists fled the town. While running away from the town, the terrorists carried most of their dead members in three trucks.

Confirming the development in the Defence Headquarters twitter handle, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, noted that the terrorists invaded the town in a convoy of 30 vehicles and many motorcycles.
His words: "Terrorists fleeing Ashaka on Thursday managed to retrieve three truckloads full of their dead members following the defeat and heavy casualty they suffered after a fierce battle with troops in the area.
"The terrorists, who had come in large number with heavy equipment and convoy of over 30 vehicles and a number of motor cycles, were on a mission to take control of Ashaka town, after they had operated in Bajoga and environs in Gombe State.
"Troops who got wind of their intention to overrun other towns and pursued the terrorists while some also laid ambush for them. The terrorists were forced to abandon the mission when the troops proved unyielding. Most of the vehicles and equipment used by the terrorists for their mission were destroyed before they chose to flee the location.
"Over 10 soldiers however died in the battle while those who were wounded are being treated in military hospitals.

About a month ago, suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Ashaka Cement Company where they made away with a truck load of dynamites used for manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDS) and since then, several bomb attacks in Kano, Maduguri, Yobe, Adamawa and Bauchi, etc have been carried out with female suicide bombers. The military succeeded in thwarting some of the suicide bombing plots.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has said he is not quarelling with the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, over who becomes the next governor of Lagos.

Tinubu, who admitted that he and Fashola sometimes disagreed, said their relationship remained cordial.

In a statement issued on Saturday through his media office entitled, 'My relationship with Fashola is intact,' the former governor of Lagos State maintained that a newspaper report alleging that his relationship with his successor was frosty was false.

He said, "For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fuelling unnecessary rumours and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship.

"My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development. Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn't the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe. We often debate, agree or disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page."

According to the APC chieftain, the issues surrounding the recently held governorship primary of the party in Lagos are being "over-blown."

"What we have done is to ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position," he said.
