More excitement filled the air around the presidential campaign headquarters of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Abuja moments ago (late Friday evening) as Mr. Suleiman Hashimu, the Lagos to Abuja trekker finally met with the president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari.

Hashimu had made a personal promise in 2013 that should Buhari contest and win the 2015 presidential elections, he would trek from Lagos to Abuja.
Having won the March 28 elections, Hashimu was forced to fulfill his promise and on Monday, April 20, 2015, he arrived Abuja from Lagos amid a cacophony of excitements and surprises.
Giving details of his journey to the President- Elect, the trekker said he passed through Kwara to Niger and then to Abuja.
Though his story may sound incredible, Hashimu said he didn't care about what people would say of him, stressing that what mattered to him was the fulfillment of his promise to God and himself.
He said: "I made a promise because of the love I have for Mr. President that if Buhari should win the 2015 elections, I will trek from Lagos to Abuja which I have done. I thank God that I made a promise and I fulfilled the promise.
"I passed through Kwara and Niger states to Abuja. I was trekking from 6.00am to 6.00pm and anywhere I find myself when it is 6.00pm, I pass the night there.I spent 18 days from Lagos to Abuja.
"Once I found myself inside the bush by 6.00pm and I managed to continue the trek till 9.00pm to a nearby village.
"I made this promise two years ago. I am based in Ibadan and I started my journey from Lagos because Lagos is the most popular city in Nigeria and I started from Berger junction in Lagos.
"I am not bothered about what people think. It is a promise between me and my God. I don't want anybody to believe me. I left Lagos because I made a promise. Right from Kwara state, I never walked alone for five kilometres. People always walk with me to the next village. I work with a construction company based in Ibadan."
Speaking at the event, Buhari congratulated Hashimu and thanked God that his health did not fail him.
"I want to congratulate you for making it. He is a young man and he was lucky that his health did not fail him. I also heard so many stories that you wore almost half a dozen pair of shoes. I also understand that there are people who have been quite generous to help you to pay for pair of shoes", Buhari said.

All kinds of individuals with various sizes of purses and bank accounts will become state governors in Nigeria come May 29. But who is the richest among them? Who's the most successful both in politics and in the world of business?
These are still moot points. However, according to the available information the crown goes to the man of the moment in Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello (aka Abu Lolo). Among all governor-elects only his family has been listed by Forbes magazine among the richest not only in Nigeria, but also in Africa.
The Bellos are involved in various kinds of business activities including construction, oil and gas, and communications.
Abubakar Bello senior, Abu's father, is said to own 40% of MTN Nigeria. Abu Lolo's in-law is also one of the richest
Africans, because his brother Ibrahim is married to Aliko Dangote's daughter.
Abu Lolo himself is married to Dr Amina
Abubakar, daughter of Nigeria's former head of state Abdussalami Abubakar and former first lady Justice Fati Abubakar.
Fati Abubakar, who is the incumbent Chief Justice of Niger state, is likely to swear her son-in-law in as governor unless she chooses to delegate this responsibility.
These credentials, including the fact that Abu Lolo's  father Col Sani Bello used to be a military governor of Kano state, make Abubakar Sani Bello the richest governor-elect in Nigeria.

The world will never cease to amuse me, a daily mail correspondent stumbled on a young Indian woman who married to five husbands, all of whom are brothers. Rajo Verma, 22, lives in one room with the siblings and they sleep on blankets on the floor.
The mother-of-one, who sleeps each night with a different brother, does not know which of her five related husbands is the father of her 18-month-old son.‎
The set-up may seem peculiar, but it is tradition in the small village near Dehradun, Northern India, for women to also marry the brothers of their first husband.
Rajo and first husband Guddu wed in an arranged Hindu marriage four years ago. Since then she has married Baiju, 32, Sant Ram, 28, Gopal, 26, and Dinesh, 19 the latest in the line of husbands – who married her as soon as he turned 18.
'We all have sex with her but I'm not jealous,' first husband Guddu – who remains the only official spouse – said. 'We're one big happy family.'
Rajo said she knew she was expected to accept all of her husbands, as her own mother had also been married to three brothers.
She said they sleep together in turn, but that they do not have beds, just 'lots of blankets on the floor'.
She added: 'I get a lot more attention and love than most wives.'

A woman in Delta State is dead after she consumed an Egusi (melon) soup she had prepared for her husband.
The woman, Egwoli, had reportedly put some substances she obtained from a native doctor into the soup, as she had been told the substances would make her husband find her more desirable.
However, she didn't know that the "charm" was actually poisonous.

According to reports, Egwoli visited the native doctor because she believed her husband was cheating on her, as they hadn't slept together since they got married two years ago.
When she returned from the native doctor, she mixed the charm into the soup she intended to serve to her husband.
However, her husband was not home at the time. Somewhere along the line, she is said to have mistakenly mixed the charm into her own soup not knowing it was poisonous. She subsequently ate it, went to bed and died.

Speaking on his wife's death, the husband says, "my wife had threatened to make me impotent when I stopped making love to her for obvious reasons and I found some fetish items in her room, including the egusi soup she ate before her death."
The case is currently under police investigation.

Some supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party's governorship candidate in Abia state are using coffins as scare tactics against people planning to vote against him.
The coffins which read: "Vote against Ngwa and die" is meant to scare voters into voting for Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who is from Obingwa local government area of the state.
On Thursday morning, residents of the commercial city of Aba, woke up to find caskets placed on some major streets, with warnings inscribed on them that if the people failed to vote for an Ngwa governor they would be killed.

The supplementary elections in the state is expected to hold on Saturday, April 25, as scheduled by INEC, after the election of April 11 in the state, was declared inconclusive.
The two councils of Aba North and Aba South are part of the areas where the election will hold tomorrow.
The coffins have started having its desired effect, as some voters have vowed not to step out of the safety of their homes tomorrow when voting commences in the re-run election for fear of their lives.

Meanwhile, the two parties contesting in Saturday's supplementary election, PDP and APGA, have both condemned the act, while pointing fingers at the opposite direction.
The PDP candidate, whom the coffins are in support of, Ikpeazu, distanced himself from the barbaric act, while his challenger in APGA, Dr. Alex Otti, described it as "despicable, shameful and barbaric act by desperate and frustrated politicians."
APGA accused the PDP of using the coffins to discourage its supporters in Aba from coming out to vote on Saturday, while the Ikpeazu responded saying he knows nothing about the coffins which were dropped at some strategic locations in Aba.

The incumbent Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola has set up a committee of nine, to review its policy of free feeding of primary school pupils in the state.‎
Punch newspaper reports that the nine-member  committee which comprises permanent secretaries in the state and a level 17 officer, may also recommend that parents be made to pay a little levy for each  child in   school
A source in the government circles claimed that labour leaders in the state recommended the review of the free feeding policy alongside others to save money for payment of salaries of civil servants and to carry out developmental projects.
The Aregbesola government has for almost six months been unable to pay workers salaries, a development it blames on dwindling allocation from the Federal Government.
Deputy Governor Titi Laoye-Tomori had said last year that the " school feeding meals cost government of the State of Osun N3.6bn annually."
In December 2014, the All Progressives Congress in the state said the allocation accruing to the state had fallen from N3.8bn per month to N1.3bn.
Following agitations by civil servants over the non-payment of their salaries, Aregbesola   challenged labour leaders in the state to suggest how his administration could generate more funds to meet its obligations.
The labour leaders consequently came up with a report containing   recommendations for the review of the policies.
The report dated December 15 ,2014 and cited by The PUNCH  was signed by the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Councils, Bayo Adejumo; the Chairman of Trade Union Congress in the state, Francis Adetunji; and the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Saka Adesiyan.
The secretary of the JNC, R. A . Adeyemi; TUC Secretary, Kayode Adepoju and the secretary of the NLC, G. A. Bolarinwa, also c0-signed the report.
It was learnt that the labour leaders came up with the recommendations after interactive sessions with workers.
In the report, they recommended the introduction of Parent/Teacher Association levy to be paid by every primary and secondary school pupil in order to increase Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

A 34-year-old  Police Constable, Paul Ogbeh, was yesterday discharged and acquitted  by a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere over a murder charge.
Ogbeh was said to have murdered men alleged to be armed robbers, while on police patrol after receiving a distress call.
He was discharged by Justice Olabisi Akinlade after she found him not guilty of the two counts of first degree murder on the basis of lack of sufficient evidence by the prosecution.
Akinlade said: "The defendant was performing his lawful duty on the day of the incident. The prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
"The prosecution did not tender any post-mortem or medical report in the death of the deceased, no ballistics report was tendered by the prosecution and there was also failure by the prosecution to produce eyewitnesses.
"All these lapses in the prosecution's case have created doubt in the eyes of the court. The prosecution has failed to create any direct or circumstantial evidence linking the defendant  to the death of the two deceased.
"The defendant is, hereby, discharged and acquitted of the two-count charge of murder against him."
Immediately, Ogbeh made the sign of the cross, raised his hands in praises to God and thanked the judge before leaving the dock, wiping tears from his eyes.
Ogbeh, who has been dismissed by the Police, disclosed: "I feel happy because I held onto my God since day one of my incarceration because the murders happened while I was performing my lawful duties.
"While I was in prison, I enrolled with the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, to study Criminology and Security Studies and I intend to complete my education," he added, tightly clutching a copy of The Prisoner's Bible.
Ogbeh, who was a Police Constable attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, was charged with the murder of robbery suspects, Abiodun Awe and Nelson Obeto at Ikorodu, when his team responded to a distress call in 2010.

#XenophobiaSA! Thousands Of South Africans March Against Senseless Attacks

Hoisting banners and singing songs of peace, thousands of South Africans have marched through the streets of Johannesburg to show their support for foreign nationals after a spate of anti-immigrant violence across the country in recent weeks.‎
A procession of people spanning five kilometres marched through the city on Thursday in the biggest display of solidarity with foreign nationals since the violence began on March 30, in Durban.
At least eight people had been killed and thousands of others displaced since then.
Organisers said their aim was to bring together as many people as possible and denounce xenophobia.
"We wanted to show Africa and to show South Africa that we reject xenophobia, that we disassociate ourselves from violence against foreign people and that we stand for social justice and all people's dignity," Mark Heywood, the executive director of Section 27, an NGO, said.
"I think we've seen a beautiful demonstration through some of the poorest parts of Johannesburg, where many migrant people live and I've seen on the faces of migrant people, both on the march, and on the sides of the street, some reassurance that South Africa is not something that is going to murder them and hurt them," said Heywood.
The march started at the Pieter Roos Park in Hillbrow, a gritty inner-city precinct, known as a hub for Nigerian immigrants in Johannesburg, and later proceeded to an area in the city centre known as Little Ethiopia, before concluding in Newtown.

One protester told Al Jazeera that she had come to show her support because the violence had directly affected her.
"I am here at this march because I'm a South African but I'm living among Malawian, Zimbabweans and Mozambicans," said Salma Mazibuko.
"These are my sisters and I like them. Our blood is one."

Gitacho Abolu, another protester, said he had joined the march to stand with others against xenophobia.
"My Ethiopian brothers have been injured in Durban, and another one has died. We sent his body back to Ethiopia a few days ago," Abolu said.

South Africa's reputation has taken a beating internationally following the feverish violence, with a string of African countries, including Malawi, Zimbabwe and Nigeria calling on authorities to act decisively.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said that the incoming administration of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, will tackle the problem of insecurity, unemployment and other issues confronting the nation with the seriousness that they deserve.‎
Tinubu, who is also the Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, said this at the 12th convocation of the university on Thursday.
The APC leader, whose speech was read by Mr. Akin Kekereekun, said that Nigerians made the right choice by voting Buhari during the presidential election, saying the President-elect would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians.
The APC leader also said that Nigerians would need a change of attitude towards nation building.
He stated that every Nigerian, especially the youths, must be ready to contribute their quota towards building a prosperous nation.
Tinubu said, "We should all be prepared for a change of attitude towards nation building. The incoming administration will tackle problems confronting Nigeria–insecurity–with seriousness.
"A great opportunity is presented to us and we can no longer afford to pay lip service to youth development. You have now elected a President who will honour his duty. The youths must also be willing partners with the government in building the nation."
The chancellor called on the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university and to contribute their quotas to the development of the nation.

The Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, said the institution had contributed a great deal to the development of the nation in the past 25 years.
He said that the university, which was founded on April 23, 1990, had produced many graduates who had brought honour to the nation and the institution.
Gbadegesin stated that a graduate of Computer Science and Engineering of the university, Mr. Olaolu Ayoola, designed a surveillance drone which took off to the admiration of dignitaries at the National Youth Service Corps permanent orientation camp, Ede in Osun State where he is serving.

Chelsea To Swap Nigeria's Mikel Obi For Arsenal Target

No comments :

Chelsea are ready to offer midfielder John Obi Mikel to Southampton in order to sign the £25 million-rated Morgan Schneiderlin, who is also wanted by Arsenal.
Arsenal is currently lead the race to sign the French international, with Arsene Wenger confident the 25-year-old wants a move to north London this summer. But Chelsea's potential offer could prove more tempting for Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, who may feel the experienced Mikel could be the ideal replacement for Schneiderlin.
The 28-year-old has been with Chelsea since 2006 and has made 329 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals in the process.
But the Nigeria international's game-time at Stamford Bridge has been limited this season due to the options Jose Mourinho has at his disposal.
