Over the years, the enigmatic Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti have been misconstrued to be just another Fela son who is doing the only thing Fela left as a legacy for the family but how wrong this assertion is. Seun Kuti as he is popularly referred to has continually proven through his music and tough stance against bad governance in the society that he is his own man out to make his own mark and contribute to the Nigerian state and indeed the global landscape in the clamour for better existence of humanity. As he celebrates his birthday today 11th of January, BBN editorial crew have finally decided to publish this piece which emanated following an interview session with the musician a few weeks to the end of 2014. Enjoy...

Fela's Son...
Seun Kuti revealed to the BlackBox Nigeria duo of Kayode Badmus and Dehinbo Odunayo that growing up as a Kuti son brought more challenges than people would ever realise. He however said the most interesting part was getting to know the type of individual his father was. The leader of the Egypt 80 band said apart from inheriting the band from his father, he also inherited how to be come a great father.
"My dad is a great father and I will also say I inherited that from him. He is a part of who I am today, that is a fact I can't deny and that has help shaped my mind and who I am today. Interestingly, all the children still makes money from him. Generally, maybe I wouldn't have been who I am today if I wasn't from that particular home that I am from".

"I don't believe in God"
The father of a beautiful baby girl however reiterated what has been variously reported in the media disclosing that he doesn't believe in God. He further revealed that he doesn't believe in anything supernatural like fairytales or the unicorn, the sea splitting into two  and all other mysterious things   which God actually is one of.

On African Culture...
When asked his thoughts on the African Culture been infiltrated, the multiple award winner said he doesn't think the African culture is been infiltrated, rather it was abandoned. He said
"it saddens when parents refused to teach their wards the basic things and contents of the African culture and their tribe and people perceive others who can't speak english as illiterates even if you can speak the language of your own ancestors, you still call them illiterate because they cannot speak the language of foreigners. It is the mindset and the mis-education of Africans in general. The culture of the Africans is the responsibilities of the African to protect and preserved but it should also be institutionalised because the Government has a role to play in giving us power that we need to build up the confidence to be proud of our own culture".

On 2015 Elections...
On his opinion on the forth coming elections, he said he thinks the election would be a very interesting one because it is an election for the politicians alone and not for any member of the electorate. " It is the politicians elections not the people's election, the people's voice doesn't count in the election. People just want to show how powerful they are." he said
Seun Kuti further disclosed that the job of the opposition in any civilised country is to criticise the activities of the incumbent Government and that is where democracy comes up. He said criticism from an opposition party helps in checks and balancing the activities of the incumbent Govenment. It is the only way for improvements and developments, even Obama is been criticised he said. With so many things to be criticised presently however shows the Government is a failure, he concluded.

Political Affiliation
When asked for his political ideology, he didn't hesitate to say " My political ideology is Africanism as my father has thought me. Africanism is Socially progressive, it is progressive socialism. The representation of the people with resources. The Resources only represent but a few people in our society" he further posits that the people should come first in every decisions the Government makes.

Entertainers In Politics...
On his view on entertainers going into politics, he had this to say, "this not the first time entertainers ventures into politics". He made mention of Regan an Actor who became the President of the united state of America. He said people become tools for other politicians if they are not too vast in politics. The platform at which they venture into also matters knowing fully well that the party's interest supersede one's personal interest and it is not possible for them as youths to change the manifestos and ideology of the party, even if they really have the interest of the people in mind.

On musicians who sing about flashy cars and babes...
Seun Kuti however lashed out at his fellow musicians, especially the new breeds of Artist who never use thier songs to influence Government decision in the improvement of the economy and standardised living for the common man which Afrobeat represents but rather "they sing about self glorification, self praises luxury purchases and other personal acquisitions.
"Our entertainment doesn't potray anything positive these days. They sing about flashy cars, how my babe is beautiful than yours etc which is annoying," Seun disclosed.

On security and insurgency, the Afrobeat Prince says, Bokoharam is an arm of the Government. He said
" it is an arm of the government that helps the Government in killing the masses. For years, what the Government of Nigeria do is to kill people. Killing is the style of all Nigerian Government. BokoHaram is not the enemy of the Federal Government of Nigeria, But the Enemy of the Nigerian People"

On AfroBeat Fans...
" My fans don't do crazy things, Afrobeat fans have mental maturity. Afro beat is a conscious music. It is not a genre of music that talks about self glories and properties like gold chains, shoes, cars etc. But fans have done many crazy things while listening to my music" that was what he said when asked on the most crazy things his fans have ever done to him.

Femi Kuti...
On his relationship with his elder brother, Femi Kuti, he said "we both have a very cordial relationship. People do expect us do the same thing together, hangout together always but they forget he is like 20 years my senior. We really don't have anything in common, we were born at two different era, two different generation, we don't have friends in common. Imagine, he just started playing Play Station and says he is a Champ, I just can't wait to trash him, he is going to repeat it ( Laughs ).

On fatherhood, he said
"it is a new feeling, nice feeling, love someone, someone loves you back. To have my daughter, spend time with her. It is a gift and a benefit, an inspiration to be better and expensive".

In a scene that played out like a badly scripted Nollywood movie, a dismissed pregnant female 'police officer', Funmilayo Balogun, has been arrested for stealing a Honda Crosstour car worth N5m from a car dealer in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and later sold it for N3.5m, having collected the sum of N2m from the unsuspecting buyer.

The 35-year-old 'policewoman' who was paraded by the Ogun State Police Command at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Magbon, Abeokuta, according to the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, was dismissed as a corporal in 2010 from the Ondo State Police Command over fake result but that since her dismissal, has been impersonating as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), deceiving Nigerians and committing various atrocities till the long arms of the law caught up with her.

The Police Commissioner explained that Balogun came to Abeokuta about two months ago and stole a car dealer and sold it. Since then, she has been on the run until her arrest recently in Lagos while the stolen car was recovered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Narrating the scenario to newsmen, Okoye said:‎
"This woman specialised in stealing vehicles. She is specialised in deceiving people, going to car dealers to deceive them that she wants to buy a car. She will bargain with them, after which she will now tell them that they should follow her to the bank to cash money.

From there, she will discharge the dealer and take away the vehicle. I don't know how she came about the police uniform and that is what she has been using to defraud people. In this particular case, she came into Abeokuta, she negotiated with a car dealer and then pretended to be coming to the state police headquarters, Eleweran. They believed her and gave her two boys to follow her.

She came into the headquarters, drove round, deceived them and went out, came back and dropped one of the boys and asked the other one to follow her to the bank to collect the money.

While their master was inside the office waiting for them, he could not see them and he had to call them; they said that they were still waiting for the woman. Their boss now sent another boy to the so-called bank. The boy went there and was at the bank waiting for this woman.

Then, the dealer called the woman again and asked about her whereabouts. She said she was in the bank. While they were waiting, the next time he called, the woman said she was still processing the money.

After that, she switched off her phones and headed for Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, from where she escaped with the car. When the dealers reported the matter, we investigated and the investigation landed us in Port Harcourt where we recovered that vehicle after arresting the woman in Lagos."

The suspect confessed that she actually stole the car but that it was her first time since she was dismissed.

She said she regretted her action and appealed to the government to pardon her because of her children. Balogun, who stated that she already had twins, advised authorities of the police to desist from dismissing erring officers. She noted that frequent dismissal of officers could escalate crime rate in the country.

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the February 14 election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday got a copy of King James Version of the Holy Bible as a special gift from the Anglican Bishop of Awka, Rt. Rev. Alex Ibezim.

The former head of state was in Ibezim's house before the rally, which took place at Emmaus House, Awka.

Addressing supporters at the rally, Buhari promised to end the spate of insecurity and revolutionize the economy if elected President in the February election.

He said he would improve public power supply to boost investment opportunities in places like Onitsha and Nnewi, which form the bedrock of the economy of the South-East.

Also speaking at the event, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, refuted the claims by some Buhari's opponents that he planned to make Islam a state religion when he becomes president.

"Buhari was once a military general and Head of State. He had decree and power. If he didn't do it then, is it now that we are in a democracy that he will Islamise Nigeria?" he asked.

Buhari, who was accompanied by Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former Abia State Governor, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, and former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Segun Oni, had earlier visited the Eze Uzu of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday, January 10, made a surprise appearance at the wedding of President Goodluck Jonathan's daughter, Inebharapu Paul.

Obasanjo's presence at the ceremony came as a shock due to his recent criticisms of Jonathan made worse by the publication of his controversial autobiography "My Watch".

In the book, Obasanjo describes Jonathan as selfish and callous while also accusing him of encouraging corruption.

Obasanjo's arrival at the event and subsequent introduction were reportedly greeted with loud applause by other guests.

Jonathan in his vote of thanks also recognised the ex-President while appreciating him for his support while further stating that Obasanjo "is our father".

BBN however gathered that before the wedding ceremony the GEJ camp had made moves to reconcile the President and Chief Obasanjo as politicking gets deeper ahead of the February 14 Presidential election. It was learnt that strong elements within the PDP who are beneficiaries of the Obasanjo administration are behind the move as they intend ensuring that PDP retain the Presidency.

A former son-in-law to ex- aviation minister, Kema Chikwe, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a case of obtaining by false pretence. Dumebi Kachikwu, an Abuja-based multi-millionaire was arrested on the evening of Friday, January 9th when he turned himself over to EFCC custody. EFCC operatives had previously raided his No 27 Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja home in the early hours of same day and executed a search warrant of the property.

On December 23, 2014 the EFCC had invited Kachikwu for questioning following a petition from Ndudi Elumelu, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Health, who until recently was governorship aspirant in Delta State. The petitioner claimed that Kachikwu fleeced him of N750million under the guise of helping him to actualize his dream of emerging flag bearer of the PDP in Delta State. Dumebi Kachikwu is a business associate of a national vice chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to emerging reports, Kachikwu had allegedly flaunted his connection to bigwigs of the PDP at national and state levels, telling the petitioner that he needed the money to persuade the executives of the party in supporting his political ambitions in Delta State. However, Kachikwu failed to deliver on his promise as the complainant was unable to secure a coveted political position in Delta State. Kachikwu was initially supposed to report to the EFCC on December 24, 2014 but failed to do so.
A source close to the investigation informed SaharaReporters that the suspect had pleaded for additional time and promised to hand himself over to the EFCC on January 8. "When we waited for him on January 8 and he did not report we decided to act, having already secured a warrant for his arrest," the source informed SaharaReporters. Several incriminating documents as well as five luxury vehicles were recovered during an operation that lasted for about two hours. At press time, Kachikwu was still being interrogated by investigators at the Idiagbon House, home of the operations department of the EFCC.

Buhari's Failing Health Causes Panic Amongst Northern Leaders

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

INDICATIONS have emerged that prominent Northern leaders and elders who had initially declared support for the candidacy of General Muhammadu Buhari in the February elections have started reconsidering their position, following alarms that the general might be suffering a serious health challenge.

Online channels had last week indicated that Buhari collapsed during the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar, Cross River State.

Though the party had denied the report, it was learnt that the development had immediately prompted meetings among top hierarchy of the Northern political establishment to review the Buhari situation.

Sources in the polity had told Sunday Tribune that the North is becoming wary of a possible repeat of the situation it found itself following the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua in office in May 2010, some three years into his tenure, following a debilitating sickness.

The illness had surfaced during the 2007 presidential campaign, leading to rumours of Yar'Adua's death, but he bounced back on the campaign train and won the election.

"The North is beginning to rethink the promised support for Buhari in view of reports that he is suffering from a certain ailment which is believed to be wearing him down. There are also reports that the elders are pushing to cut a deal with Jonathan to complete his tenure in 2019 but extract a promise that power would be returned to the North via a younger and energetic Northerner," a source said.

Broom sellers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, have commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for organizing its presidential rally in the state, saying it sparked a boom to their business.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the party held its presidential rally on Jan. 8 ahead of the 2015 general elections.

A survey conducted by NAN revealed that the price of broom skyrocketed in some areas of the state within the period of the rally.

Some of the traders on Friday in Yenagoa told NAN that the rally was a welcome development to their business.

Mr Patrick Ikpeazu, a seller at Obelle, Ovom Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, told NAN that the brooms within the period were sold between N150 and N250 each, depending on the size.

"Right now, the price has turned back to the previous price of N80 and N100, but I must say that APC as a party has turned around broom business, not only in Bayelsa but most parts of the country.
"The business was good within the period of rally, I sold all my brooms and I thank God for the day and the opportunity for us.‎
"We did not hike the price to the detriment of APC presidential rally in the state but we did it for us to have a livelihood.
"I travelled as far as Imo state to purchase the brooms and I have to think on what price to sell, so that I can make a little gain,'' he said.

Another seller in Swalli Market, Mrs Mercy Kuro, explained that the business boomed at the period and also commended APC rally in the state.
"The price was not high; selling broom between N150 and N200 was not too big for such big occasion and you know that broom is the symbol of the party,'' she said.

Mr Timipa Tiwei, the state APC Chairman, said that broom was a good symbol and would be used to sweep in development in the country.
"The broom is a symbol for change and our great party is a moving train for change," he said.
