Over the years, the enigmatic Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti have been misconstrued to be just another Fela son who is doing the only thing Fela left as a legacy for the family but how wrong this assertion is. Seun Kuti as he is popularly referred to has continually proven through his music and tough stance against bad governance in the society that he is his own man out to make his own mark and contribute to the Nigerian state and indeed the global landscape in the clamour for better existence of humanity. As he celebrates his birthday today 11th of January, BBN editorial crew have finally decided to publish this piece which emanated following an interview session with the musician a few weeks to the end of 2014. Enjoy...

Fela's Son...
Seun Kuti revealed to the BlackBox Nigeria duo of Kayode Badmus and Dehinbo Odunayo that growing up as a Kuti son brought more challenges than people would ever realise. He however said the most interesting part was getting to know the type of individual his father was. The leader of the Egypt 80 band said apart from inheriting the band from his father, he also inherited how to be come a great father.
"My dad is a great father and I will also say I inherited that from him. He is a part of who I am today, that is a fact I can't deny and that has help shaped my mind and who I am today. Interestingly, all the children still makes money from him. Generally, maybe I wouldn't have been who I am today if I wasn't from that particular home that I am from".

"I don't believe in God"
The father of a beautiful baby girl however reiterated what has been variously reported in the media disclosing that he doesn't believe in God. He further revealed that he doesn't believe in anything supernatural like fairytales or the unicorn, the sea splitting into two  and all other mysterious things   which God actually is one of.

On African Culture...
When asked his thoughts on the African Culture been infiltrated, the multiple award winner said he doesn't think the African culture is been infiltrated, rather it was abandoned. He said
"it saddens when parents refused to teach their wards the basic things and contents of the African culture and their tribe and people perceive others who can't speak english as illiterates even if you can speak the language of your own ancestors, you still call them illiterate because they cannot speak the language of foreigners. It is the mindset and the mis-education of Africans in general. The culture of the Africans is the responsibilities of the African to protect and preserved but it should also be institutionalised because the Government has a role to play in giving us power that we need to build up the confidence to be proud of our own culture".

On 2015 Elections...
On his opinion on the forth coming elections, he said he thinks the election would be a very interesting one because it is an election for the politicians alone and not for any member of the electorate. " It is the politicians elections not the people's election, the people's voice doesn't count in the election. People just want to show how powerful they are." he said
Seun Kuti further disclosed that the job of the opposition in any civilised country is to criticise the activities of the incumbent Government and that is where democracy comes up. He said criticism from an opposition party helps in checks and balancing the activities of the incumbent Govenment. It is the only way for improvements and developments, even Obama is been criticised he said. With so many things to be criticised presently however shows the Government is a failure, he concluded.

Political Affiliation
When asked for his political ideology, he didn't hesitate to say " My political ideology is Africanism as my father has thought me. Africanism is Socially progressive, it is progressive socialism. The representation of the people with resources. The Resources only represent but a few people in our society" he further posits that the people should come first in every decisions the Government makes.

Entertainers In Politics...
On his view on entertainers going into politics, he had this to say, "this not the first time entertainers ventures into politics". He made mention of Regan an Actor who became the President of the united state of America. He said people become tools for other politicians if they are not too vast in politics. The platform at which they venture into also matters knowing fully well that the party's interest supersede one's personal interest and it is not possible for them as youths to change the manifestos and ideology of the party, even if they really have the interest of the people in mind.

On musicians who sing about flashy cars and babes...
Seun Kuti however lashed out at his fellow musicians, especially the new breeds of Artist who never use thier songs to influence Government decision in the improvement of the economy and standardised living for the common man which Afrobeat represents but rather "they sing about self glorification, self praises luxury purchases and other personal acquisitions.
"Our entertainment doesn't potray anything positive these days. They sing about flashy cars, how my babe is beautiful than yours etc which is annoying," Seun disclosed.

On security and insurgency, the Afrobeat Prince says, Bokoharam is an arm of the Government. He said
" it is an arm of the government that helps the Government in killing the masses. For years, what the Government of Nigeria do is to kill people. Killing is the style of all Nigerian Government. BokoHaram is not the enemy of the Federal Government of Nigeria, But the Enemy of the Nigerian People"

On AfroBeat Fans...
" My fans don't do crazy things, Afrobeat fans have mental maturity. Afro beat is a conscious music. It is not a genre of music that talks about self glories and properties like gold chains, shoes, cars etc. But fans have done many crazy things while listening to my music" that was what he said when asked on the most crazy things his fans have ever done to him.

Femi Kuti...
On his relationship with his elder brother, Femi Kuti, he said "we both have a very cordial relationship. People do expect us do the same thing together, hangout together always but they forget he is like 20 years my senior. We really don't have anything in common, we were born at two different era, two different generation, we don't have friends in common. Imagine, he just started playing Play Station and says he is a Champ, I just can't wait to trash him, he is going to repeat it ( Laughs ).

On fatherhood, he said
"it is a new feeling, nice feeling, love someone, someone loves you back. To have my daughter, spend time with her. It is a gift and a benefit, an inspiration to be better and expensive".
