Ivorien legend and former national team Captain, Didier Drogba has launched the first of the five hospitals he earlier promised to offer to the country as part of his charity activities.
Situated in the Attecoube district of the country's commercial city Abidjan, the $1 million health complex will mainly cater for less
privileged women and children, according to officials.

Built on a plot of 800 square meters, the hospital has many facilities including an ultrasound room, a maternal and child protection unit, an x-ray block, an ultra modern laboratory, a pharmacy and hospitalisation and isolation wards.
About 50,000 patients are expected to get treatment at the facility every year, according to Guy Roland Tanoh, secretary of Didier Drogba Foundation, which is handling the project.

The remaining four hospitals are under construction in the Ivorian cities of Yamoussoukro, San Pedro, Man and Korhogo and will be inaugurated in the coming months.

Drogba's foundation will hold a gala event in London on April 18 to raise funds.
The Chelsea striker and the Elephants all-time top scorer remains an icon in his homeland despite retiring from the national team, which won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea in February.

Perhaps, Nigerian stars can borrow a leaf from this noble act rather than just spending lavishly on exquisite luxuries!

When church offering becomes too small, some of these pastors would do just anything to make ends meet!
So, that was how the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested a pastor and his wife for allegedly kidnapping a new born baby, so they could sell him to a child trafficker in Nung Ukot, Itu Local Government Area of the state for N300,000.

The pastor John and his wife, Deborah, according to reports, would adopt kids not for the purpose of raising them but selling them to child traffickers.

Pastor John, who is yet to be charged to court, while confessing to the crime said:
"We have the mission to train children and suddenly we changed our mind, when my wife and I ventured into selling of a new baby for N200,000.00 or N300,000.00 since we have a syndicate who could sell it for us."

"University Don, Prof. Abanikanda Writes On #LagosDecides : 'Between CHANGE and CONTINUITY'

5 comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Professor Olatunji Abanikanda is a professor of statistics and the director of Lagos State University External System. He writes on his opinion about the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Lagos state where he resides and he is an indigene.

I read with keen interest the ongoing debate between the APC / PDP candidates, supporters, loyalists and apologists. My natural position was not to join in the issues for fear of being misquoted as we have recently seen. But something keeps pushing me to say something after seeing something.

CAVEAT:
If this post must be shared, quoted or re-posted, it MUST be in its entirety and not distorted in any form.
We all know that Change is inevitable in nature just as it cannot be avoided in Lagos House on Saturday.
But before I proceed with my essay, we need to know what constitutes a change. To ease this burden, I've lifted the Webster Dictionary interpretation of the word and pasted same below:
Change\ˈchānj\
: to become different
: to make (someone or something) different
: to become something else‎

Full Definition
Transitive verb

1 a : to make different in some particular : alter b : to make radically different : transform
c : to give a different position, course, or direction to
2 a : to replace with another
b : to make a shift from one to another : switch
c : to exchange for an equivalent sum of money
d : to put fresh clothes or covering on

Intransitive verb
1 : to become different
2 to pass from one phase to another
3 : to shift one's means of conveyance : transfer
4 to undergo transformation, transition, or substitution
5 : to put on different clothes
6 : exchange, switch

Both parties to the argument about change and continuity are right and neither need be scared of accepting either and or both ‎
The APC fell for the PDP gambit when the later suddenly becomes apostles of Change as a consequence of their earlier loss, forgetting that either APC likes it or not there will be change of baton of governance in Lagos. So why the fear of APC about this inevitable change

Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) having meritoriously served his two TERMS of eight years as Governor as permitted by law would vacate Lagos House for another person, and that is Change in occupancy of Lagos House and Change in leadership of Lagos State. Personally as a Change agent myself I fully support that kind of Change, it is lawful, legal and desirable.

In line with the various definitions of Change and from my above submission, APC would realize that Change is inevitable. The next logical question is who deserves to be the replacement in this change process?

APC was able to get a Change at the Federal Level as a consequence of what it has achieved primarily in Lagos, therefore Lagos as the model of Governance and the laboratory for the perfection of the art of governance MUST not be toyed with! This is where Continuity comes to play. It is only a fool that will clamor for a change in a winning method. What does s/he plan to achieve with the Change if NOT fiasco! As far as the current Government (APC) of Lagos is concerned we desire and need Continuity and NOT Change. As for the Governor the law already demands a change.

Who then do we chose to replace our indefatigable and competent BRF? As stated earlier we cannot afford to risk a known working system for another known calamitous system. If PDP had done well we probably might consider an offshoot of its past successes but as it is now we all know better, simply because "you cannot give what you don't have"! ‎
Oh, you want me to consider the personality of the candidates? Personality and ability are two different attributes. Personality earned GEJ his first term of office but unfortunately his ability cost him, nay Nigeria our current travails.
One of the key points in leadership ability is your prior knowledge of the intricacies of leadership and the best way to acquire that is from your previous endeavor. You can never compare someone who has put 27 years service at different strata of Government within the state to someone who NEVER had a shot at governance. No matter how good the later is or how noble his intents and cause, he will always be at the mercy of the Hawks around the coveted office. You need to learn the ropes from somewhere if you actually want to be in control.

In conclusion, my take is to align with the two positions of Change in the Governor as occasioned by law and Continuity in Government (APC) as desired by the good people of Lagos.

Eko o ni baje ooo.

The incident which happened in Ikot Ekpo community in Calabar, Cross River State, has thrown the residents into shock and many are wondering why the boy who described as very religious and studious could be the target of the cultists.

'GodWin' crooner, Korede Bello was recently invited to perform at Harvesters International Christian Centre. His performance at the church has drawn criticism from US-based, Pastor Olusola Fabunmi.
The Mavin Records artiste was a special guest at the three services of the Lekki branch of the dynamic church under the leadership of its youthful shepherd, Pastor Bolaji Idowu.

With back-up vocals from the praise team, Korede Bello thrilled the youthful church audience with a live performance of his popular anthem, God Win. For a moment, his brief performance sent the auditorium into frenzy.
But Pastor Fabunmi is not thrilled by the artiste's invitation to perform on a church alter. He quoted James 4:4, "Friendship with the world is enmity to God? Whosoever therefore will be friend of the world is enemy of God."‎
"Korede Bello is a young man I love personally, and have nothing against him. But it's written here, that when we chose the way of the world, we have clearly chosen our paths; becoming an enemy of God. Please, there must be a clearly defined boundaries of who sings, and /or ministers in churches. Some of the questions that comes to mind are; is he born again? Sanctified with the spirit of God and baptized in the Holy Spirit," he said.

Veteran Yoruba actor, Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, better known as Baba Wande, has sent his congratulatory message to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on his recent victory at the March 28 presidential poll in the country.

The actor also hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat to Buhari.‎
"President Jonathan has set a good example for them to follow. I like the way he just let it go without sponsoring some people to foment trouble. It shows how great a man he is and I respect him for that.
"Many were thinking prior to the election that if either of the major presidential candidates lost, there would be trouble and Nigeria would boil.
"But see how President Jonathan just doused the tension. Even those who would have taken up arms to defend him were surprised. So, now that the President has shown he is a peaceful man, the PDP too should allow peace to reign. It's by peace that Nigeria can achieve its potential. Whatever part they want to play in this new dispensation, let them play it peacefully," he told Punch.

But what the actor cannot understand why he is yet to enjoy the intervention fund earmarked for the industry by the President.

He urged Buhari imitate Jonathan and support the entertainment industry.

The Super Eagles, three-time winners, will challenge the Pharaohs, record seven-time winners, for a ticket to play at Gabon 2017.
The winners of each of the 13 groups will pick automatic qualifying tickets while the two best second-placed teams would join the train
to Gabon.

Notwithstanding their illustrious credentials, both Nigeria and Egypt failed to qualify for the 2015 tournament held in Equatorial Guinea,
with Egypt's last showing being at Angola 2010 where they won their record-extending seventh title.
Both countries have had mixed fortunes internationally over the years. Nigeria have played at five World Cups and reached the
round of 16 in Brazil last year.

A retired civil servant, Mr Chibuzo Obiedefu, last friday told an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, that his wife constantly demands for money before allowing him to have s3x with her.

Obiedefu, 50, told the court that his wife, Philomena, whom he married seven years ago had since made s3xual intercourse difficult in the relatioship.‎
"My wife is always starving me of s3x and if she will allow me, she will ask me to pay for it. And if I refuse to give her money and wanted to sleep with her by force, she would hit me with any dangerous weapon she could lay her hands on," he said.

The petitioner also accused his wife of infidelity and alleged that she was dating a policeman in their area.
"Philomena is cheating on me; she is having an affair with a policeman and whenever I caution her, she will flare up," Obiedefu said.

The petitioner said his wife had created enmity between him and his children.
"My wife is telling my children not to come close to me because I am a bad man. My children now distance themselves from me and I am now like a stranger to them," the 50-year-old man said.
He pleaded with the court to dissolve his seven-year-old marriage because he was tired of the relationship and he was no longer in love.

Responding, the 40-year-old businesswoman denied all the allegations.
"My husband has s3x with me anytime he feels like; and I only demanded for feeding money from him," Philomena said.
The respondent also claimed that she was not dating the policeman.
"The policeman is only a friend, no strings attached," the mother of four said.

Young Mother Jailed For Poisoning Son With Salt

27-year-old US woman from New York state who killed her five-year-old son by poisoning him with salt was jailed for 20 years on Wednesday.
Judge Robert Neary said while Lacey Spears suffered from the mental illness known as Munchausen by proxy, she was guilty of a crime "unfathomable in its cruelty."
Spears, from Scottsville, Kentucky, was convicted of second degree murder last month in the death of her son Garnett-Paul Spears.
During the trial the court heard how the woman had given her son lethal doses of salt through a feeding tube because she craved the attention it gave her.
Judge Neary said the woman's son had suffered "five years of torment and pain."
"One does not have to be a psychiatrist to realize you suffer from Munchausen by proxy," Neary said as he resisted calls to give Spears a 25-year sentence sought by prosecutors.
Munchausen by proxy is a disorder which in some cases sees a caregiver fabricate or induce physical or health problems for those in their care.
District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Spears' son had suffered "repeated hospitalizations, unneeded surgical procedures and ultimately poisoning with salt — all at the hands of the one person who should have been his ultimate protector: his mother."
"Using the child's 'illnesses" to self-aggrandize herself, her actions directly lead to her son's tortured death," DiFiore said.

Muhammadu Buhari."

Some of the Igbo traders who deal in pharmaceutical products in the market said when they arrived the market, some messengers informed them that Oba Akiolu ordered everyone to close shop and join buses numbering over 100.

A Pharmaceutical products dealer, said: "We were shocked at what happened today (Tuesday) in Idumota market. When we got to the market, we were caught unawares by a purported order from the Oba of Lagos, directing all traders to close shop and join a bus heading for Ambode's campaign.
"We were shocked by this directive, because we were never informed the previous day (Monday) about this directive. More worrisome is the fact that I lost millions of naira because of this self-serving coercion by the Oba."

Another pharmaceutical products dealer, said: "I feel this recent forceful directive by the Oba is in fulfilment of his recent threat to deal with Ndigbo if they fail to vote for his preferred candidate. But as far as I am concerned, no amount of threat or coercion will deter me from making my choice at the forthcoming governorship election in Lagos State."
Some Igbo traders view the monarch's order as not unconnected with the campaign of Ambode in the Orile axis of the state. President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and other APC national leaders were in Lagos today to lead the campaign train.

At least one person died, Monday, as irate youths set ablaze a Baptist Church at Gidan Maso village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, while the residence of the pastor, Rev Habila Garba, was also burnt.
This came barely a week after unidentified arsonists attacked a branch of Living Faith Church, popularly called Winners Chapel, at Giwa in Kaduna State.‎
The deceased, one of the pastor's daughters, was said to have died of suffocation as parts of the house were destroyed by the fire, which resulted from the attack at about 7:30p.m.

President of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeria (Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christians), General Ishaku Ahmed Dikko (rtd), told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the intention was to kill one youth, Yahaya Joshua, who converted to Islam but later reverted to Christianity.
Dikko, in a statement, called on the state government to live up to its statutory responsibility of ensuring protection of lives and property.
Narrating the incident, he said: "The Baptist Church at Gidan Maso village of Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State was set on fire by youths of the village on April 1 at about 7:30p.m.
"The church and all the properties were burnt down in the presence of the Christian community despite all pleadings for them to stop the destruction.
"The arsonists gathered cornstalks, put them inside the church before setting it ablaze. This made the action to seem deliberate and for ulterior motives.
"The Christians present exhibited great Christian qualities by not taking the law into their hands by trying to stop them by force.
"Rather than see reason, the arsonist were infuriated which led to setting the house of the pastor, Rev Habila Garba, ablaze as well.
"One of the pastor's daughters died of suffocation and most parts of the house destroyed.
"They also attacked and wounded Bawa Adamu and Aminu Dauda, who received machete cuts leading to broken arms. Others received similar wounds, but of lesser degrees.
"The cause of the barbaric act was to kill one youth, Yahaya Joshua, who converted to Islam but later on reverted back to Christianity.
"He had escaped on learning of the plan to kill him. They therefore set the Church and Pastor's house on fire and went about maiming and wounding any Christian they saw.
"The incidence was immediately reported to the Police and the District Head at Rogo. No information has been received about the action taken or if any arrests were made.
"However, all the wounded know and can identify their attackers by name since they all belong to the same village.
"The Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nigeriya is calling on the authorities to take the necessary steps to stem or stop all these harassments and molestations of innocent Christians for whatever reasons.
"We have the right to belong to any religion of our choice and live anywhere in this country.
"We call on the authorities at all levels to rise up to their responsibilities to protect lives and properties of every citizen in this country."

Letter To My Unborn Child (Series One)
Dear ‪#‎Ubuntu‬

Today begins a long-short process of communication between us. With ample disregard for the form you might take, male or female, I understand the limit of my humanness and would never try to play God to you. The person writing this note is a bunch of failures, but I never allow the failings deter my abilities to live life. Depending on God's will, you may be my first of many or even the only, so, I would take the pain to start this rough-smooth conversation. For now, it may be a one-way communication but if time and space permits, I pray you grow to see the need to respond to any of the many letters that may come your way.

Like the slow pace of dark clouds shutting the day out of its brightness, another full year has crept upon me and I must admit, I have spent three decades short of one full of events. I have lived, loved and betray many, it truth, I cannot exonerate myself, all deeds were done by me none by the devil. But they are all subject of circumstances. So #Ubuntu, live your life, remembering that ultimate forgiveness lies with the supreme. Take a cull from the fact that every year I turn a full circle, people in Rwanda commemorate anniversary of their genocide, what this means is that you view life in the prevailing circumstances that affects you. Please do not be rigid to understand that life is flexible and grossly unfair.

Always remember your Mother, many think your mother is lucky to have married me but I feel I am the lucky soul, without her, there would not have been you and without you, there would not be me. You are #Ubuntu – I am because you are. Your coming has transformed me into immortality, just like my coming made my Father Mojeed Adeola Akanbi Sanni immortal. Life is in phases intermittent with sadness, sorrow, joy and death. Dear #Ubuntu, never be afraid to die, fear kills you before you meet death. Never be afraid to offend people when it requires saying the truth to their face. Never carry grudge beyond the setting of the sun. Never fail to satisfy thy self because in the end, only you love yourself.

Dear #Ubuntu, take solace in prayer, but never a basis for first action. God exists, but he would never come down to get things done, so always take action. I must admit your existential configuration frightens me; godless me with godly her, but then it shows you should be closer to her more than me. I assure you, she has a better path to heaven than I do. Take care of your mother as much as I would take care of her. She endured so much, believed and loved me for who I am. She deserves all the care in the world just the way my father gave it to my mother and me before her demise.

After years of toil, with experience in my kit, I can tell you #Ubuntu that farther is not better and more is not best. Always be contented. Understand the difference between godly and worldly but endeavour to enjoy both with a discerning gauge. Be holy but never aim to be a saint. Personally, I feel the burden of sainthood is too enormous for mortals to carry. Let the saints be their saints, you just be yourself.

Dear #Ubuntu, let me tell you a story about how people change and why I have learnt to understand everybody for who they are. It would be an analogy, I hope you comprehend it fast enough, trust me as a father, it would do you lots of good if you do.

While growing up, I took pleasure spending quality time when sent on errands to popular Obun-Ale market in Ikorodu, to sit by the "Elewe-Omo" shop mystified by the Chameleons I see in the cages there. Bewildered, I toy with the animal's ability to change colours and get inquisitive about why it changes because other animals I see don't change in like manners. One day, guess while I was in Junior Secondary Class One, I branched at my Mum's stall (She sells boiled potatoes in front of United High School), I asked her why does a Chameleon change skin, hear what she said,"Ogaa (Chameleon) changes to protect itself from human predators and survive in every environment yet as you can see it still ends up being caught. Humans too change to blend with every situation, learn to see everybody in the colour presented to you, in that way, you can see in their light and catch them at their game." From my Mother to me, I pass this unto you. Human change to survive fellow human predators, earn living and leave above their means but in the end, they get caught in their own grand illusion.

Dear #Ubuntu, never idolise wealth, remember you are richer within. The best of wealth is what you give to the society out of the little you have. Remember, my father bequeathed to me a name unblemished. Protect the family name. Cultivate people, always help others to realise their dreams, be magnanimous, care for the needy because in the end, the wealth the people you help would give you would be more than the wealth a greedy person can ever steal. Always create a distinction between the people's wealth and your wealth. When they give you money in trust, please do remain trustable.

Growing up in our humble town of Ikorodu, My Guardian, who would be your own Uncle, taught me never to run from a war. He often told us to be truthful and defend ourselves no matter what. Today, I realised he did some of those things because he realised he would not be there forever. So today, while I tell you to be respectful, avoid war if necessary but if people intrude into your privacy, Dear #Ubuntu, fight.

Remember #Ubuntu, death beckons with my new age, I would not be here forever. Yesterday, many wished me long life, very few knew what God wrote, but in the end, I would live life and leave when I must leave. Remember, never be afraid to die.

Your Father,
Sulaimon Mojeed-Sanni
