The Katsina Police Command on Sunday dispelled rumour over the alleged murder of Malam Ballo Isyaku, Principal of Government College, Katsina, who released Gen. Muhammadu Buhari's certificate.

The command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Aminu Sadiq, made the denial to newsmen in Katsina.

He said that the command had contacted top officials of the ministry of education and they confirmed that the principal was hale and hearty.

Sadiq said that the command had also contacted the Commissioner for Education, and the Zonal Director of education, who assured the police that the rumour was false.
"We are surprised to read the story online that the principal had been killed by unknown gunmen.
"The command wish to state that the principal in question is currently organising a naming ceremony for a new born baby that came into his family."

The PPRO called on the members of the public to disregard the publication as the handwork of mischief makers, adding that some disgruntled elements were out to cause disaffection among the residents of Katsina.
It will be recalled that the social media had been spreading the rumour that Isyaku had been assassinated by unknown gunmen for releasing the certificate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate. (NAN)

A grandmother, from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, was said to have been found in Lagos at Wilmer area of Ajegunle after being thrown out of a moving vehicle with bruises on her body last Sunday.

Also, a 'good Samaritan' was said to have saved this grandmother from being lynched by a mob who suspected her to be a witch, a kidnapper or a mad person.‎

On noticing that her life was in danger, the grandmother raised the alarm in Ekiti dialect which attracted a passers by who happened to be an Ekiti man. ''I am neither mad nor am I a witch but I need your assistance to locate my children. Help me please,"she was quoted as saying. The grandmother's cry attracted another 'good Samaritan' who also hailed from Ekiti State who opted to help her out of her predicament.

One of the 'good samaritans' was said to have made calls to his people who volunteered to locate the address given by the grandmother in Ado-Ekiti and this paved the way for her to be located as it was discovered that she came all the way from Ekiti to celebrate the Yuletide in Lagos but was thereafter declared missing by her daughter who lives at No 16, Titiloye Street, off Kogberegbe, Isolo.

At the time of this report, Madam Obafemi was on admission in a private hospital in Lagos and was not allowed to talk to journalists. Meanwhile, her daughter, Mrs Oyefusi Adenike, was full of appreciation.\

''Mama was found at Wilmer bus-stop. We received the news via telephone and we rushed to the scene but she was very almost out of breath before she was located and was rushed to hospital. She was almost stoned to death by a mob but by divine intervention, rescued by a good Samaritan," the daughter said.

Madam Obafemi travelled to her daughter's house in Isolo during the Yuletide from where she was declared missing on Monday, December 29, 2014.

The security guard in the compound was said to be asleep when the grandmother left the house while neighbours claimed she was spotted on two separate locations holding her bathroom slippers. Nobody could trace her whereabouts until she was thrown out of a moving vehicle last Sunday.

GOBE! For daring to touch his girlfriend, 27-year old man punches policeman

A man has been arrested on charges of assault after allegedly punching a police officer for touching his girlfriend at a supermarket, prosecutors in New York have said.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that 27-year-old Tommie D. Williams of Jamaica, Queens, was charged with assaulting an off-duty police officer earlier this week in a St. Albans supermarket parking lot, following a minor disagreement minutes earlier in the store that involved the defendant's girlfriend.

"The defendant is accused of allowing a relatively minor bumping incident in a supermarket – to which he was not even directly involved – to rapidly escalate into a violent assault that resulted in him causing serious physical injury to his victim," District Attorney Brown said.

Williams of 140-33 173rd Street in Jamaica, is awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on charges of second-degree assault and second-degree harassment.
If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.

Police investigation say a 42-year-old off-duty New York City Police Officer was shopping at the Pathmark supermarket located at 134-40 Springfield Boulevard on Monday, when he accidentally bumped into Williams' girlfriend.

Williams then verbally confronted the officer, telling him that he would be waiting outside for him. The officer finished shopping and was walking to his car in the parking lot approximately five minutes later, when Williams approached and punched him in the face, causing the officer to fall to the ground.

As the officer approached the vehicle and tried to take a photograph of it with his cellphone, Williams exited the vehicle and again punched officer in the face, causing him to again fall to the ground, before fleeing in the vehicle.

The officer suffered three fractures to his face, which required hospitalization and the surgical implantation of a metal plate. Metal wires also had to be placed in his face.

Jimi Agbaje Rides On Okada To Campaign Rally...Vows To End Looting In Lagos

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, vowed, yesterday, to end what he called the looting trend in the state.
Agbaje, who rode on a commercial motorbike, popularly known as Okada, to attend a mammoth rally held at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, said he would enthrone decent and more humane governance if elected as governor.
He said: "For so long, the APC leaders have been deceiving the people of Lagos. When election is coming, they will reduce school fees; when you vote them in, they'll increase the fees. Before election, they will embrace Okada riders only to make their lives hell thereafter. They will reduce the cost of land approval before election and increase it after. This is deceit.
"As we know, the APC broom cannot sweep the mess they've created in Lagos. Always say amen to their prayer for change because we have had enough.
"They have been oppressing traders, discriminating against non-indigenes and they want continuity. The time has come to make change in Lagos and re-elect Jonathan to consolidate the gains of democracy that we have had under him''.
While urging voters to give Agbaje a chance and re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan, the organiser of the rally and General Overseer of the Restoration Praise Ministry for Africa, Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin, said: "When you talk about democracy, you talk about freedom of speech, job creation, freedom of worship and association, as well as peaceful co-existence, these are the things that President Jonathan stand for. And that is why Nigerians will vote him back to power''.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, accused the Federal Government of diverting Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, money for the funding of the campaigns of President Gooodluck Jonathan.
Fashola made the allegation at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Badagry area of the state.
The governor, who took a swipe at the Federal Government for disappointing Nigerians, added: "The money they took for Sure-P is in Sure Pocket, that's what Sure-P means. It has nothing to do with the people."
He accused the Federal Government of non-challant attitude, stressing that at a time they ought to have been committed to serving the people. "They were busy doing TAN rallies. They started the campaign one year ago , they were doing Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) rallies instead of serving you.
"They were spending Sure-P money in TAN. If they had used that money to build health centres, highways and prosper your life, the story will be different,'' Fashola said.
"The person that is campaigning one year ago is now saying no, let us postpone the elections. The game has changed. He has to defend his record. There is no longer sympathy votes. Six years ago, he had no shoes, he has shoes now and we see what he has done with the shoes. He has forgotten the people who voted for him."
Fashola explained that all over the world, when cities and states build municipal rails the Federal Government support them. "It is only in Nigeria that the Jonathan led government failed to support states that embarked on rail projects," he stated.

Jimi Agbaje Is The Best Man For Lagos Job -Cleric

The Archbishop of the Resurrection Praise Ministry, Sampson Benjamin, on Saturday said the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, had unique virtues that could make him the best man for the governorship of Lagos State.

Benjamin described Agbaje as "a de-tribalised Nigerian, who has what it takes to be the governor of Lagos State."

The cleric was speaking at a rally organised by a coalition of civil society groups, trade unions and socio-cultural organisations in Lagos.

The rally, which had a huge turnout of Agbaje's enthusiasts, was held at the International Trade Fair Complex along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Benjamin said Lagos was a state that accommodated all ethnic groups in Nigeria and therefore, was fragile to handle.
"Agbaje is a man who identifies with all tribes, the poor and less-privileged. Agbaje is a man, who does not discriminate against non-indigenes.
"My dealings with him revealed his openness and large-heart. With Agbaje as the governor in Lagos, we have got it right because his administration will be positively all-encompassing and will benefit all residents of the state from the elite to the down-trodden," the cleric said.

Benjamin told the supporters to ensure that they voted and that they voted not only for Agbaje but for President Goodluck Jonathan.

The archbishop, who earlier, donated an 18-seater Toyota bus and two campaign offices at Festac Town and Ojo to the Agbaje Campaign Organisation, urged Nigerians to eschew violence as they got set to go to the polls.

Agbaje promised to live up to the expectations of the people if elected.

"Everything my administration will do will be beneficial to all Lagos residents. Irrespective of your tribe, religion, or whom you know, my administration will empower all," he promised.

There Would Be War If Jonathan Loses -Niger Delta Militants Threatens

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Niger Delta militants have threatened to take up arms again if President Goodluck Jonathan failed to win in the coming February 14 presidential election.

The former militants spoke when they met with the Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson on Friday. They said Jonathan's re-election was not negotiable.

Addressing the audience, a leader of the militant, popularly known as Boyloaf flayed the attack on the President in some northern states, saying nobody or group of persons had the monopoly of violence.

Boyloaf, who contended that there was nothing like one Nigeria, said the only thing binding Nigeria's unity was the oil.

He believed that President Jonathan would win the election, but however noted that if the North out of desperation for power took power from their kinsman, the people of the Niger Delta would take their oil back.

The ex-warlord said, "We are Nigerians but not one Nigeria; what brings us together is oil. The North wants to use insecurity excuse to push out our own.

"One thing I can assure you is that though I am retired, I am not tired. We can go back to the struggle. We own the resources and they are saying we do not have the right to rule. I will assure you that we must collect our oil back. If they take back power from us, we will take back our oil. Let us fight this last fight and I tell you the Devil is a liar."

He stressed the need for oneness of purpose among the people, urging them to keep their grudges apart and endeavour to tackle the present challenges facing the Ijaws.

On his part, another militant leader, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari lamented the alleged intimidation being meted out to the people of Ijaw stock in Nigeria, saying the people could not take it anymore.

He said, "For every Goliath, God created a David. For every Pharoah, there is a Moses. We are going to war. Everyone of you should go and fortify yourself,'' he said.

He advised those at the meeting to be ready for the battle ahead and declared that Jonathan would win reelection.

Dokubo-Asari, who condemned the attack on Jonathan by supporters of the opposition candidate maintained that the survival of the Ijaw nation rested in the hands of the militants gathered at the meeting.

Addressing the former militant leaders, who converged on the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, Dickson called on them and their estimated 30,000 foot soldiers as well as the Ijaw nation to be united in their support for the re-election of Jonathan.

Dickson said the time had come for all stakeholders and interest groups in the Niger Delta, especially, the Ijaw nation, to pool their resources and work in one accord to ensure the President's victory on February 14.

The governor described the re-election of President Jonathan as key to the developmental aspirations of the nation and the Niger Delta.

He noted that victory at the forthcoming polls would afford Jonathan the opportunity to consolidate on the achievements already recorded in the various sectors of the economy.

Dickson condemned in strong terms, the unwarranted attack on Jonathan's campaign convoy in two northern states.

My husband is the best man in the world -Professor Osinbajo's Wife Gushes, Speaks About His Aspiration

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress party, Yemi Osinbajo wants you to know that she has got her husband's back.

In an interview with the Nation Newspaper, she disclosed how she felt when he initially announced his involvement with Buhari and more.

See excerpts:

On her initial reaction when she heard that her husband was going to be nominated as All Progressives Congress (APC) vice presidential candidate, she said "My initial reaction was that of apprehension. Because I knew I would have to share him with others, I mean political associates, official functions and all the likes. And I would rather have him to myself alone. So, that was my initial reaction.

Overcoming the apprehension "I guess I realized that the handwriting was always on the wall; that this was what he is being prepared for. If you look at what he has done over the years, you will realize that the Lord was preparing him for a time like that. I realized and remembered that. That put my fears aside and I told myself I had to allow the Lord do what He wants to do with him.

I shouldn't be selfish but release him to accomplish for Nigeria what God has been putting in his heart. His works, like I said, over the years and his experiences in public life have all pointed to the fact that he is a man for a season like this.

Reaction to the ongoing APC campaigns for the February elections "Comfortable is not a word you can use at this point, considering what the nation is right now. But in terms of the campaign, yes, things are being done in a noble way. Things are different from what they used to be in the past. I believe that things will take a turn for the best for this nation.

Her opinion of her husband and being able to carry out the Vice Presidential role "I don't think I am in the best position to answer that (laughter). But I think he is the best man in the whole world. One thing I can say is that we have been married for the past 25 years and every day, I get to respect him the more. He is very kind and lovely. I have never met a man more caring than he is. He is the most caring person I have met.

Well, I will just say he is a lovely and kind man. He loves to a fault. He cares a lot. His life is all about caring and giving. When he was Attorney-General of Lagos, he proved that over and over again. Our church currently runs two free schools through his initiatives because we are interested in people.

One has run for a year and the other one just started. In the school, there is no tuition, registration or any fee. They are entirely free. They don't pay for books, stationeries, uniforms or feeding. One of the schools is in Obanikoro, while the other is in Okota in Lagos.

We also run a soup kitchen in the church that we run now and the one we ran before. The soup kitchen provides food for the students every day. No child gets to the schools except he or she is poor. So, these are some of the many things he does for people to show his love.

I believe if he is elected, he will have more opportunities and platform to do much more for the people.

On how she is preparing for life as a public figure despite her private life "Honestly, I can't tell. There is nothing I am doing or intend to do. I just trust God for grace. I am in His hands and I believe He won't take me there and leave me stranded. I am just in His hands for whatever He wants to do with me.

She believe he will win this election "I believe so with all of my heart. Yes, not minding that he is contesting against the incumbents. I believe change is coming and Nigerians will witness it through the APC.

What her typical average day is like: "I don't have an average day because what I want to do determines how the day runs. I have now two shelters for battered women and victims of sexual abuses. One is on the Island and the other on the Mainland.

It is a non-governmental organization called Women's Helping Hands and we get to hear heart-breaking stories. One is that of a woman whose husband held down and battered with hot iron. She was so scary when we saw her."

Postponing February Polls Might Bring Back The Military -Ex Soldiers Warns

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

Some retired senior military officers have warned against the postponement of the February general elections to avoid military takeover of the administration of the country.

They warned that the postponement might lead to anarchy in the country, which, according to them, may lead to military intervention.

A former Director of Procurement in the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier-General Ayodele Ojo (retd.), in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, described the recent call made by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, for the general elections to be postponed as a step towards military rule.

According to Ojo, the suggestion by the NSA for the deferment of the polls is capable of creating a constitutional crisis that can abort the nation's democracy.

On Thursday, Dasuki stated that the postponement of next month's elections would give the Independent National Electoral Commission more time to distribute over 30 million outstanding Permanent Voter Cards to registered voters.

The NSA said rescheduling the elections would cost INEC and the Federal Government nothing, adding, "It's still within the law."

However, Ojo told SUNDAY PUNCH that INEC and the Federal Government should not entertain such a suggestion.

He said, "It is a backward step to the dark days of military rule when anti-democratic forces, on the eve of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, were able to secure a dubious injunction from an Abuja High Court restricting the National Electoral Commission from conducting the election.

"This singular act was instrumental to the annulment of the election. It is worrisome that the call, this time around, is coming from a highly placed security official of the Nigerian government. Moreover, the reason given for the postponement is untenable, to say the least."

The former director at the DHQ added that if the call for a postponement was based on allowing would-be voters to collect their PVCs, the Federal Government could consider declaring a public holiday.

Ojo added, "What I think is required is for the Federal Government to declare Friday, February 6, 2015 as a work-free day to enable affected voters the last opportunity to collect their PVCs.

"INEC could also use that weekend before the presidential election as a dress rehearsal. This will require INEC to deploy its entire staff on that Friday and Saturday for the voters to collect their PVCs from the polling units, where they are expected to vote the following Saturday of the presidential election.

"This, I believe, will take care of this problem without resort to postponing the election, thereby creating unnecessary and avoidable crises. This suggestion by the NSA is uncalled for and must be resisted by all Nigerians in order to avoid plunging the country into self-inflicted crisis."

Another military General who pleaded anonymity told one of our correspondents that INEC should not be stopped from going ahead with next month's election.

He warned that politicians must be extremely careful not to trigger crisis that they may not be capable of handling.

He said, "I think we have to be very careful in this case. It may be the beginning of untoward things. We have to be extremely careful. Let the elections go on as scheduled. Let us avert any strife that may spring up. The military has taken over in this country before and we have to be careful that it doesn't happen again."

Also, a former Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Brig.-Gen. Williams Obene (retd.), warned against heating up the polity with the postponement.

He said, "I think the polity is really fired up; there are so many reactions, interpretations and misunderstandings. And if we say we are a democratic country practising civilian democracy, then we have to work by the rule of law. If that is not done through the constitution, then it can attract anarchy."

In the same vein, a former Minister for Police Affairs, Maj.-Gen. David Jemibewon (retd.), warned that postponement of the elections could cause confusion in the country.

In an interview with one of our correspondents in Ilorin on Friday, he argued that postponement of elections was unknown to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Jemibewon stated that postponement was unnecessary as, according to him, nobody knows what will happen within the 90 days, if it is postponed.

He said, "I think we are being guided by the constitution of this country. Certainly, there is no provision for postponement of elections. However, if there is an emergency; if there is war; if there is disaster of a wide scale, it may be dictated by circumstances.

"Where do we say we derive the postponement? Is it from the constitution? The National Assembly has not debated it. It is an unnecessary talk.

"You may only consider it if there is an emergency or if there is war. The situation would have dictated it but which situation can we now say has dictated it?

"Do you know what will happen within the 90 days? That means when the 90th day comes, some people will gather again and postpone it for another 30 days or 90 days. What are the criteria for wanting to postpone just for 90 days?"

Similarly, pro-democracy activists have warned against postponement of the elections. The Convener, Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reform, Mr. Ayo Opadokun, warned that postponement of the elections could be an invitation for a military take-over to defend the constitution of the country.

The former Secretary-General of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, and the National Democratic Coalition urged Nigerians to resist such an idea, saying Nigerians should not give the military an opportunity for takeover again, given the experience of the country.

Opadokun said, "The argument of the proponent of the postponement is not structurally right neither does it command respect, if you consider the implication."

UNIPORT Confirms Authenticity Of President Jonathan's Ph.D

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

FOLLOWING speculations in some quarters that President Goodluck Jonathan did not complete his doctorate degree programme at the University of Port Harcourt, the institution has come out in his defence.

The Uniport Deputy Registrar (Information), Dr. William Wodi, explained that apart from acquiring his first degree in the institution, Jonathan also got his Masters and Ph.D in the same institution.

Wodi, in a statement sent to SUNDAY PUNCH via electronic mail, described the rumour about the President's educational qualification as baseless.

The deputy registrar of the university specifically stated that Jonathan was among 422 students that matriculated in the school in 1977 and was admitted in the Department of Zoology, which had been renamed Animal and Environmental Science.

"The authorities of the University of Port Harcourt are aware of rumours that are now spreading like harmattan fire over the doctoral degree status of President Goodluck Jonathan. The allegations have neither legs nor grounds to stand on and we hope that its purveyors will now rest in silence.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the authorities of the University wish to state without equivocation that Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, as he then was, was among 422 students, who matriculated in 1977. He was admitted into the then Department of Zoology, now Animal and Environmental Biology in the then School of Biological Sciences, now a Faculty in the new College of Natural and Applied Sciences.

"At the end of a successful residency period, Jonathan was awarded the Bachelor of Science (Upper Division) in 1981. It was rumoured among students that the young university was reluctant to award the First Class to its pioneer class in an effort to consolidate its academic profile," Wodi said.

He said the President later enrolled into the postgraduate programme and obtained the Master of Science degree in Hydrobiology and Fisheries in 1985 and crowned his academic pursuit in the University with the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Zoology in 1995.

He said, "From the above account, it has become obvious that Dr. Jonathan successfully completed the prescribed courses and programmes as specified by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt to earn his degrees from the university."

Stressing that the university remains proud of Jonathan, Wodi advised any person or organisations in need of further information on the educational qualification of the President or any other student of the institution to contact authorities of the university.

"We have absolutely nothing to hide as an institution that has a statutory mandate to advance the frontiers of knowledge," Wodi added.
