‎….ASSURES RESIDENTS OF SAFETY OF LIFE AND PROPERTY
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday presided over the inaugural Security Council Meeting, issuing a four-week ultimatum to miscreants and persons in possession of illegal arms and weapons in the state.
Briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the meeting, held at the Lagos House, Ikeja the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Kayode Aderanti, said the major crux of the meeting was the charge by the Governor to all security agencies in the state to mop up all illegal arms and weapons, often deployed by unscrupulous persons to terrorize innocent citizens.
He said Governor Ambode was deeply concerned about the safety of life and property in the state and therefore urged all security agencies to ensure that Lagos is rid from the activities of criminals and hoodlums.
"It was a very comprehensive meeting, very exhaustive and we were able to have an overview of all the security issues involved in the state. We reviewed the security architecture of the state generally and we came to the conclusion that we need to work harder to assure the people of Lagos that under his watch, Lagos will continue to remain safe, Lagos will continue to remain investor's destination and we are committed to keep doing that. How can we achieve that, is to ensure that we keep Lagos free from criminals, free of hoodlums and cultists that are parading the state," Aderanti said in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Habib Aruna.
He stated further, "In doing that, he further directed that we (security agencies), are going to give an ultimatum to all those individuals that are in possession of illegally acquired weapons that are not licensed, we are giving them four-week ultimatum, they should hand over all the weapons that are in their possession to all the area commanders in the state and after four weeks we intend to take steps.
"We intend to do these in order to rid the state off weapons that we have termed as weapons of mass destruction, because they are using it against innocent people, our children, brothers, fathers and mothers, we believe we need to take them off and in doing that the carrot and stick approach will be adopted".
Aderanti however said the security agencies will be forced to be take decisive steps to recover all weapons after the expiration of the period of grace.
"But we are enjoining all those in possession of these weapons to please hand them over the area commands in the state and moving forward, we intend to clean it off. We would do these within the four weeks of grace and we would have all these properly documented, captured and stored in the data base of the state government, the Police and the security agencies, this is one of the major decisions that we actually we agreed upon."
Aderanti said the meeting also touched on all matters relating to maintaining the peace and security currently being enjoyed in the state with a bid to ensure that every resident can move about freely without any fear of molestation.
"It is also the Governor's focus that under his watch, he would place much emphasis on security, and security is going to be the baseline. He believes that if Lagos State is secured, people will be able to come to Lagos state and invest. He is looking at a situation whereby citizens can go out at night, anytime of the day, people can walk on the streets, drive at night, they can do whatever they want to do lawfully without being molested. If we have all these in place, then we can move forward and he can implement all his noble ideas and vision for the state", the Lagos CP said.
Those in attendance at the meeting include the Director, State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Little John, Assistant Director, SSS, Mr. Salami Yinka, Commander 9, Mechanized Brigade, Major General Ahmed Mohammed Sabo, Commander NNS Beecroft, Olokun Apapa, Navy Commodore Daniel Ikoli, Commander Airforce Base Ikeja, Air Commodore Lere Osanyintolu and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello.

National Stadium, Lagos: A fortress laid to rest

No comments :
Once an edifice of National Pride, the National stadium Lagos which in the past played home to the country's national team is now a shadow of itself.
BlackBox Nigeria's Sport Bureau Chief, Aziz Mustapha writes on the state of the abandoned facility.
Add BBN on 2BAFB965
Many ex-internationals and football administrators alike have been expressing their dissatisfaction for some years now regarding the sorry state of the Legendary National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. The Stadium was built and opened in 1972 as a world class 55,000 capacity sport complex, though on renovation in 1999 the capacity was reduced to 45,000.
It is rather unfortunate that the stadium which hosted the 1980 African cup of Nations finals where Nigeria won her first African title after the Green Eagles of Nigeria, led by the firepower of Best Ogedengbe in goal,Christian Chukwu leading the defense line, Late Muda Lawal in midfield and Mathematical Segun Odegbami defeated Algeria in the front of a record crowd of 85,000 football fans.
The National Stadium, Lagos also hosted the 2000 African Cup of Nations where Nigeria lost to Cameroon via a controversial Victor Ikepeba penalty loss. The legendary ground have also hosted a lot of international games and World cup qualifying matches.
Some school of thought believe that the construction of the Multi-millon dollars Abuja National Stadium led to the neglect of the National Stadium, Lagos. Others believe that the National Stadium should be Located in the Nation's capital and Abuja had to enjoy the privileges that were accrued to Lagos.
Exploring my personal life, one will understand why I feel so much pain in my heart whenever I take a stroll around the former fortress of the super Eagles. As a kid nothing gave me more joy than the jubilant chants oozing from the main bowl of the National Stadium.
Fortunately, I could see the fog lights of the Stadium from my house so my day was always complete. The National Stadium has of now is in a state of anomie and needs serious intervention from all stake holders who has the interest of Nigeria Football at heart.
On a final note, I personally don't subscribe to the two schools of thoughts aforesaid, for me the Federal government neglected the Stadium just to settle political scores with Lagos and I hope the new "pro-lagos" government will revisit this historical tragedy. I believe that with the consciousness of Sports loving Nigerian youths, should the government decide to return the eagle to its nest in Lagos and expand the ground, the record 85,000 crowd of 1980 is going to look like child's play.

News making the rounds have it that popular actor, Femi Adebayo is on his way to the alter as all is set for him to get hooked to his Dublin based sweet heart.
Investigations by BlackBox Nigeria revealed that unlike earlier reports which claimed that the lady in question was based in the United States, she actually resides in Dublin in Ireland where she does her business.
BBN further uncovered that Femi who is the son of legendary Nollywood actor, Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) might however not have the blessings of his father. This is because the lady involved is said to be a christian while Oga Bello being a staunch Muslim do not approve of his children marrying outside the religion.
According to reliable sources, Oga Bello has told Femi to follow his heart although he is not in support. The love blind Femi might however go ahead with the union because this is the second time his father wouldn't be a relationship he wants to go into.
BBN investigations reveal that Oga Bello had reportedly stopped his son from marrying Funke Akindele years ago due to unexplained reasons.
Both Oga Bello and Femi Adebayo were however not available for comments but BBN would update you as soon as we have their side of the story.

More than 500 commercial sex workers rallied in Abuja, demanding to legalize their trade in wake of recent police raids, when more than 3,000 prostitutes have been arrested.
The prostitutes gathered under the slogans "Legalize prostitution now" and "Allow us to hustle for our daily bread", protesting discrimination and harassment from male law enforcement representatives.
No fewer than three thousand commercial sex workers have been arrested for the last 90 days in Abuja in raids carried out by the Special Task Force on City Cleaning and Management. Women representing the National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes expressed their dismay at what they call indiscriminate arrests and the way they are molested by different task forces on a daily basis.
"We are Nigerians too and we only go about seeking our daily livelihood, so I see no reason why they should be harassing, arresting us and extorting money from us," told one of the female rally participants. "These same men are the ones who patronize us but during the day, they will be molesting us.What crimes have we committed? Many of us are graduates who could not secure jobs, so we hustle to make ends meet. We have families and responsibilities to meet, so they should allow us to work and make money."
She also claimed that the prostitutes are better people than thieves and corrupt politicians. Sex workers demand from the government either legalize prostitution or provide them with some decent jobs.
