Redeemers University Suspend 22 Students For Missing Church!

A mail stumbled upon by BBN from someone who says Reedeemers University just suspended 22 students for not attending church is currently causing a stir.
According to the enraged source,"even a student that didn't go because she has asthma attack was suspended, they are to be suspended till next semester effective from tomorrow there by causing them to miss their first semester exam"

Her mail in part reads..‎
I highly doubt that Pastor Adeboye knows about this victimization, the rule book states that failure to go to church attracts points been deducted (if student doesn't give a valid reason) not students been suspended, how can a parent waste almost 400k because the child did not go to church for a day, even the girl with the asthma attack had an attack right there and they still suspended her.

This so called potters and administrators take laws into their hands and victimized students out of envy (sometimes) and just because they know they can. A few months ago i heard a students phone was seized by a potter because she had long natural nails.. Imagine that.. In a University.
I know this because my husbands sister attends the school. We are here so upset and will be heading to the school tomorrow..Admist pleading and shedding of tears the students had to pull out their handbook to see the penalty for their supposed "OFFENSE", they showed it to the potters and admin staff responsible for the suspension and their response was "YES we know the rules but we want to make you all scape goats".

Nollywood star and APC candidate for the forthcoming State Assembly election in Lagos, Desmond Olushola Elliot has reacted to the misrepresentation of his person as being reckless, irresponsible and above all a drunk owing to a photograph of him in circulation holding 2 bottles of champagne.

According to the award winning actor who spoke through his publicist, Tunde Moshood, the said "photograph which is currently circulating is a mere political propaganda and has nothing to do with recklessness as the public has been made to perceive of his person."

"And the irony of it is that, I don't even drink alcohol, not even at all, at least this is very easy to confirm, my colleagues in the movie industry can attest to this, those bottles of champagne were presented to us as gifts by the CDA Chairman of that community while we were on the campaign procession and because of the fact that, I am the popular face among the politicians, they were handed to me and in the spirit of the campaign, I just brandished it, and later handed it to the guys", Desmond stated.

"So it's surprising to see that the gesture of goodwill and acceptance which is meant to be seen as a honour have been given a different name by detractors but that notwithstanding, I've taken note of this and will be more careful henceforth of what not to be involved in", he quipped on a final note.

Housewife, Hubby Leads Robbers To Rob Community

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a gang of armed robbers, including a couple, who allegedly went to rob in an estate at Abule Lemode in the Ijoko area of the state.

Our correspondent gathered that the four suspects ─ Amache and Seun Augustine, Taiwo Dada and Ezekiel Alawode ─ were apprehended while allegedly robbing at Santos Crescent, Araromi Estate.

They were reportedly arrested at about 9.30pm on Saturday, January 17.

It was learnt that the suspects, who were in possession of a locally-made pistol, were first apprehended by the members of the local vigilance group before they were handed over to the Agbado Police Division, Ayinla, on Sunday.

Our correspondent gathered that it was the couple ─ Amache and Seun ─ who had stayed in the estate for about a year, that allegedly led the gang on the night of the incident.
They were said to have also connived with one of the security men in the estate.

When newsmen visited the area on Friday, one of the victims, Mr. Rasheed Akinwande, said the robbers stole cash and recharge cards from his house.
He added that he knew Amache as a bricklayer in the estate, but was surprised to know that the couple brought the robbers to attack the residents.

He said, "It was at about 9pm when they got to my apartment. They were two men and two women ─ Amache and his wife with another man and woman. But the couple did not come inside my house. Instead, two strange faces, who wore black jackets and jean, broke through my windows, and pointed a gun at me.
"They asked everyone to lie down, and they collected money ─ about N6,000 that they found in the house. They demanded more, and they even packed the recharge cards which my wife was selling. Few minutes later, we began to hear gunshots in the environment. The robbers fled. But the local vigilance group apprehended them eventually."

The General Secretary of the estate's community development association, Stephen Adesoji, said the executives prevented an angry mob from lynching the suspects on the night.
He said, "Two of the suspects were a husband and wife, and they live with us in the estate. They invited two others to perpetrate the crime. It was the security man they connived with who later alerted us that robbery was going on, and we informed the vigilance group."

Our correspondent was shown the couple's rented apartment. It was observed that the place was locked and dusty.
Amache, it was said, worked as a bricklayer, while the woman was a full time housewife, who took care of the union's four children.
It was gathered that the suspects, in their statements to the police, had confessed to the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest.
He added that the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He said, "The suspects are now at the SCID where further investigation is ongoing."

Properties worth millions of naira were lost in a fire incident at the Supply and Transport Corps Barracks of the Nigerian Army at Eleyele, Ibadan, on Saturday.

According to NAN, no fewer than 23 apartments were burnt in the incident.‎
An eye witness, who said the fire outbreak occurred at about 1.p.m., added that the cause remained unknown.
However, one of the victims, Mrs Priscilla Kilyobasi, said the incident could be due to the carelessness of a resident in the barrack who was cooking on a kerosene stove.
"We started seeing smoke coming out from a room on the back row and some people raised an alarm.
"On entering the room from the back door, we saw a pot on the stove that was completely burnt and had affected the wood walls.
"Sympathisers helped to pour water to contain it, but the fire had started spreading to the other rooms.
"Some passers-by helped to call the Fire Service officials at the Government Secretariat and they responded with a truck to contain the spread,'' she said.

A fire officer at the scene, who pleaded for anonymity, told NAN that his team had to seek for reinforcement from the Eleyele station which deployed two fire trucks.
He, however, said the buildings could not be saved as the structures were made of wood.
"We were only able to curtail the fire by soaking nearby rooms with plenty of water, " he said.

Another victim, Samuel Ufot, ruled out the possibility of power surge, claiming there was power outage at the time.
" The room where the fire started had a burnt kerosene stove," he said.

NAN reports that no life was lost in the fire incident while attempts to reach officials of the Army Post Service Housing Scheme, where the structures were located, proved abortive.

Nigerian Lawyers Call For Buhari's Prosecution

A group of lawyers under the aegis of Coalition of Concerned Lawyers of Nigeria has called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate a case of perjury and certificate forgery made against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

In a statement by the leader of the group, Dr. Amaechi Nwaiwu, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said having relied on the school certificate presented by Buhari in an affidavit sworn to at an Abuja High Court on the 24th of November last year, the APC presidential candidate was duty bound to personally present the certificate to INEC or face the consequences spelt out by the law for perjury.

While picking holes in the statement of the result published by the Government College, Katsina, last week, the legal practitioners said the content of the document did not support the enlistment of Buhari into the military.

The group said the APC candidate appeared to have concealed the fact that he failed Mathematics in view of the fact that it was a requirement for his commissioning into the Nigerian Army officers cadre.

According to the group, the fact that the documents allegedly presented contained some alterations raises more suspicion which must be probed by the police.

Amaechi said that Nigerians have a duty to demand that those who seek public offices abide by the provisions of the constitution.

He said, "The Federal Republic of Nigeria is a state based on the principles of democracy and social justice where sovereignty belongs to the people from whom government, through the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, derives all its power and authority."

Two youths from Obunagha community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Saturday jumped into the river and drowned while attempting to evade arrest for allegedly smoking cannabis.

They were said to be smoking the banned substance when men of the state security outfit, codenamed Operation Doo Akpo, stormed their hideout.

It was learnt that immediately the youths sighted the security operatives, they took to their heels and jumped into the nearby river where they drowned.

While the corpse of one of the victims, Meipor Ebinimias, an indigene of Obunagha and a father of three, was discovered on Saturday evening, the second victim, said to be a visitor, has yet to be found.

"On Friday evening, youths were gathered as usual and having fun.

But a few minutes into their merriment, the police arrived.

On sighting the patrol vehicle of the State Special Security outfit, Operation Doo Akpo, the youths panicked and jumped into the river behind the school.

Oluwaropo Tifase, the university dropout who was accused of killing his 75-year-old father, Moses, in the Jakande Estate, Mile 2 area of Lagos State, has removed his testicles while in the custody of the police.

Twenty-two-year-old Oluwaropo, during a chat with our correspondent at the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he was rushed to for treatment, said he acted under the influence of a spirit which possessed him at the time.

Our correspondent had reported on December 30, 2014 that the Imesi Ile, Osun State indigene, was rusticated from a university in Ondo State, a few years back, for engaging in cult-related activities.

He was alleged to have sneaked into his father's bedroom and stabbed him with a pair of scissors in the neck.

Neighbours, who first discovered the deceased in a pool of blood, were said to have alerted the police at the FESTAC division.

The whole family was said to have been rounded up for questioning and after some preliminary investigations, Oluwaropo was detained while the others were released.

PUNCH Metro reported that his mother, 65-year-old Funmilayo, told the police that the suspect once manhandled her during an argument.

It was said that he was the last child and only son of the five children of the victim.

Our correspondent learnt that the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, where the suspect was kept in custody.

However, he was said to have used the tiles of the cell to remove his two testicules.

The police at the SCID were said to have rushed him to the Lagos Island General Hospital on Tuesday when the incident happened.

When our correspondent visited him in the ward where he was receiving treatment, it was observed that he walked with his legs apart.

It was learnt that the doctors at the hospital "stitched" the affected area.

After exchanging pleasantries with our correspondent, Oluwaropo said he could not explain the reason for his action.

He said, "I got frustrated with my life while in the cell because I was alone and was abandoned there. I didn't see outside of the cell for a long time.

"A spirit entered into me and said I should do it. So I castrated myself. I removed the two testicles myself."

Asked if he didn't feel pains while removing the testicles, he replied, "I did."

It was learnt that Oluwaropo was 17 years old when he was sent out of school for cultism in 400 Level.

Our correspondent asked him if he was a cultist, and why he was rusticated from school.

He said, "I am not a cultist and I didn't kill my dad. It is my mother that keeps telling people that I am a cultist.

"I studied industrial design in school, but I didn't like the course, so I voluntarily dropped out of school because I discovered my love ─ computer. I love programming, so, I decided to leave school on my own and pursue my love."

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.

He said, "Yes it happened. He broke the tiles in the cell toilet and used them to cut his testicles. As we speak, he is in the hospital undergoing treatment."

Edo People would Vote Out Jonathan -Oshiomhole Blasts

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, will not secure the votes of the people of the state in next month's presidential election due to what he described as the abandonment of the state.

Oshiomhole argued that President Jonathan did not fulfil his promise to contribute to the development of the South-South state, despite enjoying 95 per cent of votes of Edo people for his re-election in 2011.

The governor spoke at separate rallies of the All Progressives Congress in Ehor and Igueben, in Uhunmwode Igueben Local Government Area on Saturday. He explained that in spite of several letters to the Federal Government to assist the state on erosion challenges, the Jonathan administration neglected Edo after persuading them to vote for him as their brother in 2011.

He, however, said that the people of the state had become wiser now and would "vote the President out on February 14, for abandoning them."

He said, "The last time, we voted for President Jonathan. He got 95 per cent of the total votes in Edo State. Yet, I cannot think of any meaningful thing he has done in the state.

"Last year, President Jonathan gave N2bn each to some PDP states even where he lost election to deal with erosion. Those that don't have flood erosion were given money for desertification but we in Edo State that voted for him got nothing. I am not lamenting this. We have learnt from it and are determined not to repeat our mistakes."

Oshiomhole also accused the Federal Government of failing to prosecute "those indicted" in the ill-fated immigration recruitment exercise in 2014, adding that it "is a clear indication that President Goodluck Jonathan did not care about the welfare of the Nigerian youths.

"People lost their lives. Last week, the relatives of those who died in Benin were protesting to us that the Federal Government have not given them even the jobs they promised."

He, however, expressed confidence that Nigerians would vote for change at all levels in the country, adding that "I believe that with Maj. Gen. Buhari, Nigeria will be in a safer hand beginning with security."

President Jonathan, Amaechi Biker Over Use Of Stadium As Governor Insists PDP Isn't Ready For Free, Fair Polls

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said that contrary to President Goodluck Jonathan's claim, the President is not interested in a free and fair election.

Amaechi, who was reacting to soldiers' occupation of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium ahead of the Jonathan's political campaign in the state on Wednesday, said the action of the President was an indication that he (Jonathan) was opposed to democratic norms.

The governor, who spoke in Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday, explained that it was wrong for President Jonathan to order soldiers to take over the state-owned stadium, even when approval was not given by the state government.

He argued that a President should have respected the position of the state government in an ideal federation, particularly after telling the Peoples Democratic Party to use the Liberation Stadium.

Amaechi said, "Why is the President insisting on using the Adokiye Amiesamaka Stadium after we have told the PDP that work is currently going on there? It is unfortunate that the President is preaching one thing and doing another thing.

"If the President is truly interested in the conduct of a free and fair election, why did he order armed soldiers to forcefully take over a state government-owned facility when it was not given to him or the PDP?

"Why should a President elected in a democratic election, serving under a democratic dispensation order soldiers to take over a state-owned stadium? In an ideal federation, the President is supposed to respect our position, essentially after we asked them to use the Liberation Stadium at Elekahia, in Port Harcourt City."

In a related development, the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Felix Obuah, confirmed the party's readiness to use the Adokiye Amiesamaka Stadium on Wednesday.

Obuah said in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media, Mr. Jerry Needam, that the reason given by Amaechi on why he refused the party's request to use the stadium was unacceptable.

The state PDP chairman argued that the stadium was built with state funds, maintaining that the facility was only conceptualised when Amaechi was a member of the PDP.

He, however, challenged the governor to name any capital project that he implemented since he defected to the APC in November 2013.

Obuah told members and supporters of the PDP to turn out in their large number to welcome the presidential campaign train in continuation of President Jonathan's bid to earn a second term.

Judiciary Workers Suspends Nationwide Strike

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria has suspended its three weeks old strike in federal courts.
The suspension was the result of a meeting held at the Supreme Court on Sunday at the instance of the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Ahmed Gambo.
Details of the decision to suspend the strike remain sketchy.

However, a source who was not authorised to talk told our correspondent that the strike had been suspended only for federal courts.
The implication is that states' courts will remain shut.
The affected courts are the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court ‎and the National Industrial Court.
These courts are expected to reopen for business today Monday, 26th January, 2015.
For three weeks, the workers effectively ‎closed down  all courts nationwide following the refusal of the executive to comply with a judgment of a Federal High Court, Abuja which ordered the executive to hands off funds meant for the judiciary.

JUSUN's President, Marwa Adamu said the workers decided to go on an indefinite strike because the executive did not comply with the agreement reached with the union to comply with the judgment of the court on judiciary funding.
While sympathizing  with litigants, he said the workers had no choice but to go on strike to compel implementation of a subsisting court order and the agreement reached with them.
The strike denied politicians ‎dissatisfied with their parties primaries to have their grievances heard in court.

No Going Back On May 29 Transition Date -President GEJ Insists, Meets With US Secretary Of States; John Kerry

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday assured all stakeholders including the United States of America that the May 29 handover date was sacrosanct.
He gave the assurance amidst calls by some individuals including the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), for the postponement of the February general elections.

According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President gave the assurance during a closed-door meeting he had with the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, at the State House, Marina.

The statement was signed personally by the President.
He said he had what he called "a candid and constructive discussion" about a broad range of issues with his guest.
He said he emphasised to Kerry that he was deeply committed to ensuring that the elections were free, fair and credible.
He added that he also promised his guest that his government would provide all resources required by the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct hitch-free elections.
Jonathan said, "I emphasised to Secretary Kerry that I am deeply committed to ensuring that our forthcoming election is free, fair, and credible.
"It is especially critical that all political parties abide by the Abuja Accord, which commits each to non-violence before, during, and after the election.
"I made it absolutely clear that the May 29th handover date is sacrosanct.
"In addition, the government will provide all resources that are required by the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the election goes smoothly.
"I also emphasised that INEC is an independent body, which makes its own decisions without any interference from the government."

The President said he was grateful to the US for standing with Nigeria and its people in the nation's fight against Boko Haram.
He said he reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working together with the US to put an end to global terrorism and particularly Boko Haram.
He promised that Nigeria would also work to deepen and consolidate its bilateral relationship with the US.
The President described Nigeria as a vibrant democracy and the largest trading partner of the US in Africa with over $18bn in bilateral trade.
He noted that the two countries and peoples shared a mutual admiration for one another and a deep commitment to freedom, democracy, and human rights.
This, he explained, was why the two countries were jointly engaged in a struggle against "a common enemy that promotes terror, fear, division, and violates human rights, most especially of women and girls, with complete impunity."
The President added, "Winning the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria and West Africa is absolutely essential to beat back the tide of religious extremism around the world.

"Our security forces have been working tirelessly and courageously to achieve this goal.
"I reaffirmed for Secretary Kerry that Nigeria is strongly committed to building the multinational task force to fight Boko Haram in partnership with Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin Republic under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
"Indeed, I called publicly for such a regional approach at the African leaders' summit in Paris in May 2014 and more recently in multilateral meetings.
"We are pleased that the international community is now strongly united behind this initiative and agree that its success is critical.
"It is equally important that the multinational force receives the significant support that is required to address the threat through our global partners.
"The United States, more than any other country in the world, has the most experience fighting armed insurgencies.
"And having suffered the devastating attacks of 9/11, its people also understand the insecurity and fear that is the reality for the vast majority of peaceful, tolerant Muslims and Christians in north eastern Nigeria."
