An 18-year-old newlywed woman was allegedly gang-raped by seven men on Saturday night in Bhithali village of Shinor taluka in Vadodara district, India.

The accused barged into the house where she and her family were sleeping and dragged her to an open field nearby. They took turns to rape her.

Times Of India reports that the woman had migrated to Bhithali few days ago with her husband and in-laws in search of work. The family was employed by a farm owner in the village to do labour work in the fields. "The woman was dragged to an isolated place in the fields by the accused. She was later found about 1.5 km far from her dwelling," said Shinor police sub-inspector J M Waghela.

Waghela added that the woman's husband rushed to the farm owner soon after she was kidnapped. The farm owner immediately called the police who rushed to the spot. "The accused had their faces covered and threatened to kill them before they abducted the woman and gang-raped her. The family is in state of shock," said Waghela. The victim's family is a native of Nishana village of Nasvadi taluka in Chota Udepur. The woman is currently being treated at the SSG Hospital.

"According to the complainant, the seven accused were between the age of 25 and 30. Investigations are on to identify the accused. We are also awaiting the victim's medical reports," said Waghela.

This is the second incident of gang rape in central Gujarat in last five days. On January 14, a 14-year-old girl was raped and murdered by four persons in village in Mahisagar district. The accused, who raped the girl, later strangled her and hung her by a tree in the forest.

Don Jazzy, D'Prince Mocks Dbanj In New Single 'Oga Titus'

This is definitely going to cause some controversy very soon.
A couple of days ago,D'banj hinted that former label mate, Dr. Sid was the person behind Mo'hits split; now a new attack is emerged.

According to a new online report, Don Jazzy has thrown shades at D'banj in the latest release of D'Prince's single, Oga Titus.

It would be recalled that few weeks ago, there were rumors that D'Banj is enmeshed in a huge debt mess; this however will make one to try to put one plus one together to make it two as Don Jazzy and his younger brother D'Prince, allegedly took swipe at the DB Records chief in the song calling him "Oga Titus" instead of "Eja Nla".

Titus is a kind of fish while Eja Nla means Big Fish, Titus is usually small in size.

Here is a part of the lyrics of the song:
"Oga Titus is too pompous, you wan try us, now money don lost, boys are very big boys, you don f**k up, you wan form boss, kasala don burst, where is oga Titus
You take night bus to come Lagos, you go campus, girl are very surplus, you no hint us, you wan com flex, now money don loss
…"

Well, the lyrics of the song might just be a great coincidence as D'Prince recently made it known that Mavin Records miss the D'banj!

The national chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Olu Falae, has asked electorate especially those in Ondo State not to vote for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in next month's general election, saying it would spell doom for the state and the country.

Chief Falae, gave this warning in Ondo state, during a rally organised for SDP candidates for national and state assemblies, held at the City Hall, Akure, said the national leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu, had no interest in the development of the Yoruba nation and the South-West in general.

The national chairman of the SDP said all activities of Tinubu and his party, APC, were always against the interest of the South-West when the position of the Speakership of the House of Representatives was zoned to the South-West region.

Falae also alleged that the position of the APC leader on the much-publicised national confab was condemnable, saying many of the recommendations of the confab like decentralisation of railways control, seaport establishment and control of mineral resources were implemented, the South-West and Ondo State in particular had a lot to benefit.

The SDP chairman said this would reduce unemployment and open other opportunities and therefore advised the people of the state to vote for all the SDP candidates for the national and state house of assembly elections.

In his words, he said
"Tinubu and his party worked against the interest of the South West when the position of the Speakership of the House of Reps was zoned to the region".

Teenage Maid Beaten To Stupor By Madam..."I beat her for fingering herself"

A 15-year-old girl, Oluebube Amadi, has refused to report her guardian, Mrs. Ebere Ugochukwu, to the police for allegedly assaulting her.

Amadi, a primary six pupil, lives with the woman on Muhammed Akinje Street, Ejigbo, Lagos State.

It was learnt that a Good Samaritan who met her while she was writhing in pain on the street advised the victim to report the assault to the police. But she turned down the idea for fear of being punished again by the guardian.

It was learnt that Amadi had told the Good Samaritan, identified simply as Rukayat, that she was, on January 11, spanked by Ugochukwu for sending one of her daughters on an errand.

The victim had reportedly added that the woman applied pepper on her injuries after the flogging.

However, Ugochukwu told our correspondent that she spanked the victim for allegedly self-servicing. She also justified the assault on the ground that Amadi had a habit of stealing.

Ugochukwu said, "She touches her private parts with her fingers and she has started doing same to my daughters. I was really annoyed. When I asked her where she learnt it, she said she used to do it in the village. The beating I gave her was the highest since she has been living with me. I tied her hands and legs. Besides, she is used to stealing. She steals my money and items from school.

"I brought her from Enugu in 2012 to look after my children because I used to lock them up whenever I was going out. My mother got her for me from her parents, who live beside our house."

Although the girl confessed to the allegations, she insisted that Ugochukwu punished her on the fateful day for sending her daughter on errand.

She said, "She usually flogs me. I steal and do bombom (self-service), but I did not steal that day. She beat me for sending her daughter to bring me soap to wash plates."

When our correspondent inquired to know why she engaged in such acts, she did not respond. However, when asked whether the woman sprinkled pepper on the scars in her back, she said, "She will beat me if I tell you."

Ugochukwu's husband Emeka, a vehicle inspection officer, said, "The items she stole from school are still with her. I told her to return them. I will take her back to her parents."

A neighbour to the woman, who craved anonymity, said beating has become "a hobby" for the girl.

"That is how she beats her. Everybody has complained, including the landlady to no avail. We even told her to take her back to the village if she can't cope with her. Now, nobody bothers to intervene whenever the girl is being flogged," she said.

Aggrieved People Should Go To Court, INEC Can't Disqualify Buhari -Jega Insists

No comments :

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has maintained that the commission cannot disqualify the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), even if he does not present his senior school certificates in the future.

Jega, who spoke on Wednesday night during an interview on a Channels TV programme, titled, Straight Talk With Kadaria, said those asking the commission to disqualify Buhari were free to go to court.

He said the Electoral Law permitted that if any presidential candidate cited any documents that he could not produce, he could swear to an affidavit.

On the eligibility of Buhari and the calls for INEC to disqualify him, Jega said, "When a political party presents a candidate and he meets all the requirements of submission -deadline and the forms- INEC cannot reject such a candidate.

"There is a provision that the candidates should provide documentary evidence of whatever qualification they have cited, but the law also permits that if you cite documents and you don't have photocopies, you can swear to an affidavit and in this case, INEC by the provision of the section 31 of the Electoral Act cannot disqualify an appropriately nominated candidate of any party. We can deregister a political party, but the law says we must accept any candidate; it is a matter for the court, they are free to go to the court."

The INEC boss also allayed fears over cloned Permanent Voter Cards, allegedly made to rig the forthcoming elections.

He said any cloned PVC would be detected by the card readers.

He said, "They can attempt to clone our cards but they cannot succeed. The card reader would detect any fraud. We are 100 percent sure that no cloned card will be used."

Responding to a report that the Department of State Service had access to INEC's database, Jega also dismissed the claims.

He said although the DSS approached INEC to carry out investigations on certain electoral crimes, the commission didn't release the private data of voters to the DSS.

He said, "By law, we are supposed to protect the secrecy of the voters and we have a lot of information in our database. We have not made our database accessible to anybody. The DSS came to investigate, they asked questions and we are willing to assist any security agency to do a thorough investigation to determine whether there is a crime or attempt to commit a crime."

Speaking about his plans after the end of his tenure in June, Jega said he would go back to teaching.

"I came into this job, I did my best. I think five years is okay for anybody to make a change and allow some other people to take over and do their best. I am grateful to the Almighty God who gave me the opportunity to discharge these duties well. I supervised the 2011 elections that were adjudged one of the best elections in the country. We are the only administration that has conducted two elections consecutively and we are doing everything possible to make all a success. I will return to teaching after my tenure ends."

NO fewer than 366 students of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, have been expelled by the management of the institution for poor academic performance.

The RSUST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barineme Fakae, who made this announcement on Wednesday at the 33rd matriculation of the university, explained that the affected students could not meet the minimum academic standard required by the institution.

He said the expelled students could not make the Cumulative Grade Point Average 1.00 and were withdrawn from the university at the end of the 2013/2014 session.

Fakae also disclosed that for the 2013/2014 academic session, eight best performing students of the university from seven different faculties were rewarded with one laptop computer each, saying the reward was aimed at encouraging healthy competition in academics among students.

He said the institution would reward best performing students of the university every year and that 12,904 applicants, who scored above the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination cut-off mark of 180 per cent, applied to study in RSUST.

The VC said only 3, 322 (25.74 percent) out of the number were admitted based on merit and the National Universities Commission's approved carrying capacity.

Fakae said, "I have to reiterate that in RSUST today, you must be good to come in, good to stay in and good to graduate. It is sad to announce that 366 students out of a total population of 14,948 that registered last session, who could not make the mandatory Cumulative Grade Point Avergae (CGPA) of 1.00, were withdrawn from the university at the end of last session (2013/2014) due to academic failure.

"As you know, the commonly known academic vice called 'sorting' no longer has a home in Rivers State University of Science and Technology due to our strict adherence to the academic rules and our electronic process."

Lagos Govt Orders Removal Of President Jonathan's Posters

The Lagos State Government has ordered President Goodluck Jonathan's campaign groups, including the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, to remove the President's campaign materials illegally mounted on street lamp posts in the state.

The Managing Director, Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency, George Noah, said if those concerned failed to heed the order, the agency's enforcement team would remove them in line with the enabling law.

Noah spoke in Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, saying LASAA, due to certain developments in electioneering campaigns, had decided to tell the public about the impunity and illegality that "posed immeasurable and long term damage to those who erect, operate and maintain billboards in the state".

Noah said, "In the last 48 hours, two advertisers in the outdoor sector had terminated multi-million naira contracts with outdoor agencies registered by LASAA to operate in the state."

He stated that the contracts were terminated as a result of parallel and illegal mounting of Jonathan's campaign materials on posts paid for by the advertisers.

"The two advertisers in question are a Chinese telecoms firm, Huawei, and Globacom. The outdoor agencies affected are Touch Point Limited and Clearedge Limited. Both agencies have lost N350m.

"The illegal and brazen act by agents of the Peoples Democratic Party is unjust, inconsiderate and therefore unacceptable at a time outdoor advertising is facing stiff competition from television, radio and the social media.

"The illegal act is capable of destroying outdoor agencies in our state. It will almost certainly lead to lay-off of workers and loss of revenue for our stakeholders," Noah said.

He added that in line with the agency's statutory functions to regulate and control outdoor advertisement in Lagos, the illegal posters must go.

"LASAA hereby directs the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria and its affiliates to remove all campaign materials on street lamp posts in Lagos State immediately, failing which our enforcement team will remove same in line with the enabling law setting up LASAA," Noah said.

He also alleged that the PDP agents had been removing the advert materials of Glo on poles, which the telecom company paid for, to replace them with Jonathan's materials.

Noah further alleged that policemen usually gave the PDP agents backing, adding that the police had withdrawn the policemen attached to the agency.

PDP Blames Buhari For Katsina Attack On President Jonathan

No comments :

Add BBN on 2BAFB965

The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is liable for Tuesday's attack on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina.

The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation said it would hold Buhari responsible if anything should happen to Jonathan in the course of the electioneering while PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh said the party would no longer tolerate such acts of violence on any of its members

Both Metuh, the publicity secretary of the PDP, and Femi Fani-Kayode, the director of media and publicity of the PDP campaign organisation, on Wednesday reacted to the Katsina incident.

Fani-Kayode, at a press briefing in Abuja, said, "Let us take this opportunity to also serve them (APC) notice that if anything untoward happens to our candidate or his supporters during the course of this campaign we shall hold Buhari and his party responsible and the consequences would be grave, unimaginable and far-reaching."

Fani-Kayode alleged that a group of broom-wielding vandals, chanting "sai Buhari", hurled stones at the convoy of the President and that but for the gallant efforts of the security personnel, "this small group of violent vandals would have harmed the President and caused damage to the vehicles in his convoy."

He said it was regrettable that the stoning occurred in Katsina, the home state of Buhari, and reminded Nigerians that the APC presidential candidate had visited Bayelsa State, where President Jonathan hails from and that while there, Buhari was not molested.

He described the action of the APC supporters in Katsina State as "despicable, barbaric, shameful and highly reprehensible."

Metuh, in a statement in Abuja, said the attack was "a clear indication that the APC is not ready to dial back on its rabid desire to attain power through violence despite signing a peace pact a week ago in Abuja".

He said, "This brazen attack on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our presidential candidate clearly showed that the APC was never committed to the spirit and letters of the Abuja peace accord which they signed in the presence of prominent Nigerians and international personalities.

"It is unfortunate that while the PDP and other parties are busy ensuring that their members and supporters remain committed to a peaceful electioneering, the APC has been hatching plots to unleash violence on our candidates and members.

"We invite Nigerians, friends of Nigeria and all lovers of democracy to rise in condemnation of this dangerous phenomenon. These early developments clearly demonstrate that the comments and declarations by the leaders of the APC that Nigeria would be thrown into chaos and bloodshed should it lose the February general elections were real."

Metuh commended the maturity and the peaceful disposition of President Jonathan and the leaders of the PDP even in the face of provocation.

He said, "The irony which we wish to place on record is that the APC, which has successfully completed its campaigns in the South-South, including Bayelsa, the home state of President Jonathan, without any incident and has even signed a pact to maintain peace, is turning round to unleash thugs to disrupt the presidential campaign of our party.

"In spite of this, we wish to assure Nigerians of the iron cast resolve of the PDP to ensure peaceful and credible general elections where the votes of the people shall exclusively determine who emerge as leaders in the general elections"

Meanwhile, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, has said his group would respond appropriately to the attack on Jonathan's convoy in Katsina State.

Dokubo-Asari, in Abuja on Wednesday, said members of his group were putting the world on notice because the Katsina youths chose to attack the President's convoy as he was leaving a campaign venue.

He said, "There is an established pattern of pre- and post-election violence in the north. In the 50s when late (Chief Obafemi) Awolowo was campaigning in the north, he went with helicopters and he was mocked.

"People said he was flying over the houses and peeping on their wives. That has continued and everywhere in the country, people say leave them alone. We don't want any trouble. But I think the game has changed. The rules of the game have changed.

"For every action, there will be an opposite and equal reaction. I knew that the signing of the accord was useless and that the President subjected himself to sign such an accord. For me, it was out of place for a President and Commander- in- Chief of the armed forces of a country. But the President is a humble person. He does things that even marvel some of us and make us sometimes to be very angry."

More Niger-Delta Militants Declare Support For Buhari, Tackles Jonathan

Some South-South ex-militant generals and commanders in Edo State on Wednesday announced their support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the February 14 presidential poll, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari ( retd.).

They also commended the leadership of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta for endorsing Buhari, insisting that the group's (MEND's) action should be treated with seriousness.

The ex-militants told journalists in Benin, the Edo State capital, that their position was in line with the expectations and hope of Nigerians for positive change and development, particularly, the development of the Niger Delta region.

The spokesperson for the group, Mr. Godwin Ogidigba, explained that the ex-agitators had implicit confidence in the ability of Buhari, whom he said, was capable of addressing the major challenges affecting various communities in the region, which were yet to be addressed by the present administration.

He said, "In recent publications in the dailies, you see MEND endorsing Buhari. People thought it was a joke. It is not. The fact remains that we need somebody that can address the salient issues that affect the Niger Delta region.

"Our brother has failed in those issues; our brother has failed to take us away from poverty, our brother has failed to bring development to the Niger Delta region.

"Just take a look at most of the Niger Delta communities. They still remain where they are, in spite of the fact that we have one of our own at the top, at the helm of affairs, nothing positive has changed in the region."

Ogidigba argued that their choice of Buhari had nothing to do with religion or ethnicity but centred on their desire for unity in the country.

He noted that although the amnesty programme had brought some relief to youths in the region, some of the terms of the agreement had yet to be implemented.

Ogidigba said, "Somebody who can stand and develop our region, that should be our interest and that is our interest. It is true that President Goodluck Jonathan is from the South-South region; he is our brother. But the problem is this: he came to meet the amnesty programme and since then he has not been able to improve on it, which means that the amnesty programme stopped when the late (President) Musa Yar'Adua died."

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday visited the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, in his palace in a bid to get the traditional ruler's blessing for his re-election bid.

He was in the city in continuation of the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential campaigns.

The relationship between the two became strained last year when the President suspended Sanusi as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Jonathan had suspended Sanusi as the apex bank's boss over what was described as financial recklessness and thereafter directed the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria to further investigate him.

Shortly after his suspension, however, Sanusi became the Emir of Kano following the death of the former occupant of the stool, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

There were unconfirmed reports then that the Presidency moved to ensure that Sanusi did not emerge as the Emir.

During the Wednesday visit, Jonathan congratulated Sanusi on his installation and condoled with him and the people of the emirate on Bayero's demise.

He told the traditional ruler that he was in his palace to formally introduce himself, Vice President Namadi Sambo and other PDP candidates in the election.

"I am here to seek your royal blessing and to reassure the people of Kano that the PDP is totally committed to developing the country," he told the monarch.

In his response, Sanusi thanked Jonathan for the visit and expressed the hope that his campaign in the state would be hitch-free.

He stressed the need for all office seekers to go about their campaigns without violence.

"Democracy is all about giving people the chance to make their choice and so, there is no need for violence," he said.

Sanusi urged the people to accept the verdict after the election and rally around whoever emerged as the winner.

He also advised the Federal Government to intensify efforts aimed at ensuring security in all parts of the country before, during and after the elections.

Sanusi prayed for the emergence of leaders that would move the country forward.

Speaking at the Polo Ground venue of the campaign rally in Kano, the President said that was why his administration was committed to producing young entrepreneurs.

He said, "We have said that in those days when they said Nigeria was at par with other countries, but those countries overtook us and left us behind. That will no longer be acceptable by this present leadership."

The Vice President, Namadi Sambo, told the supporters to ignore the religious campaign against Jonathan and the PDP, saying that as the vice president to Jonathan, nobody could claim to be a bigger Muslim than himself who observed all injunctions of Islam.

The Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who is the North-West zonal coordinator of the PDP presidential campaign, told the gathering that the All Progressives Congress government of Kano State was a government of deceit.

Recalling the achievements of a former Kano governor and Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Lamido advised Kano people not give in to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso's false pretences but to vote for all PDP candidates.
