As a young, ambitious, aspiring but timid young boy, I cherished the Nigerian police and was always in the habit of saluting them whenever I come across their van. Their cloths were amazing as it signifies the will in a group of people protecting, saving the lifes and property of fellow citizens at their own peril all in the name of serving national interest. To me it was a focal point and I always enjoy seeing them as I would happily, graciously with my smiles shining and glowing hoping that one day I would be willing to also serve my own country too. This to me is an ideal way of thinking for an average citizen of any reasonable country.

These thoughts of mine were relatively growing as I was ready to nurture same, it has always been a passion to study law and be in the force to further contribute to the development of the force.
However, the seeming reality of life dawn on me as I grew older to witness the sham called the Nigerian police. Incompetence at its peak, bribery and corruption, insincerity of purpose, and so many more, then having a rethought became necessary and the reality of life soon dawn on me as I encountered the greatest ordeal of my life so far, when I as always showcased the activism in me.

It was a fateful day while as an undergraduate preparing to take my final exams and was heading back to school and like they normally do, our police in their usual manner of cock and shoot style of threat to stop moving vehicles, stopped our vehicle and landed a slap on our driver and as a better enlightened young chap that I am, I approached the rather enraged policeman questioning the rights he has to slap and mistreat the gentle man who has obeyed him, in their usual manner of trying to intimidate any individual they sensed would create a problem to them, they would want to create a scene , he bounced on me as he reiterate severally "na u know your right abi, wetin you know sef" while hitting me with his gun saying I would kill you and nothing will happen, I continually resisted his threat but to cut the story short I was handcuffed and later taken to the station where I was thoroughly mal-treated but I was soon released because I called my friends in school who mobilized and they almost got killed too by the same police who shot at a numbers of unharmed citizens.

Flowing from the story briefly highlighted the thoughts and ambition of all reasonable citizens will gradually change about her security men if faced with same scenario in life. The Nigerian police as friends of Nigerians is well far from it as it has killed, maimed and tortured many Nigerians either directly or indirectly than even known and unknown criminals.
They have over the years displayed their taste for the bloods of innocent Nigerians, sheer incompetence in combating and investigating crimes and securing the life and property of Nigerians for which it was created.

During the recently okada ban saga in Lagos, people in their thousands have been extrajudicially killed by the so called State Security Service (SSS) and even swept some cases under the carpet if its involves the OGA'S at the TOP.

As it stands policing has become the responsibility of individual citizens as our known enemy (friend in disguise) will continually add salt to our long untreated injury, we must collectively stand by ourselves and not allow the miscreants in the popular black-black kill us all and go scot free. We must hence forth demand justice even if it is to sacrifice our time, money, energy amongst others. We must be willing and be ready to support ourselves at all times. We must not be threatened by their fist of weapon and must be ready to defend ourselves irrespective of our tribe, region and religion.

Never watch the right of your fellow man being trampled upon and not act. Am guilty of this and have vowed never to repeat same, we must stand by ourselves and must say no to our known enemy.
The Nigerian police is no friend of ours, they killing us.
