Philosopher's Corner:- What Does Christianity and Islam Say About Polygamy? (2)

No comments :

Read the Part One here.

Man is naturally polygamous in nature. Be it African, American, Asian, Christain, Hindu, Muslim or Atheist, our “polygamousity” transcend borders and it is natural by nature.

Did anyone realize that a man can conveniently exhaust the life span of 3 to 4 women in a single life time? Let's assume he married a 25-year old lady at age 30. In the next 15year, he is through with her because by age 40, a woman enters her menopause. The same man can pick another 25-year old lady and enjoy her for another 15years, thus, at 60years of age he is done with two women. The same man can start and exhaust another two women on or before his 90years birthday. What are we now saying?
How can we blame man or God for man's polygamous nature? Some men cannot just eat one delicacy continuously for a whole year or more. They want to change varieties. Can we now say men should marry more than one woman, bearing in mind the Biblical and Quranic references given in part one of this article, in order to quench his natural thirst for multiple sex?

Is there anything wrong in polygamy? Is polygamy wrong because it gives room for men to have more than one woman? Is it wrong because we are trying to pity women? Is it wrong because women are naturally jealous of themselves or one another? Is it wrong because it is most time too difficult for two women to live under one roof? Is it wrong because some men cannot cater for the two women? Or is it wrong because it will be difficult to do justice among them? Then let's ask women, why are you difficult to please? Did we realize that even God cannot please women? God created Adam and Eve. He gave them everything but Eve was not satisfied, she went to Taste the forbidding fruit. God created Adam, after six days, he rested. Since God had created women, has there been any documentation in the Bible and the Qur'an that He rested? Without any gain saying, no one can do justice among women except by wisdom.

The bible said: man should love his wife like Jesus loves the church. Going by this, one can conclude that Jesus would have lived a polygamous life if he is still alive. How many churches do we have in the world today? If Jesus loves all the churches and they are his wives, isn't that polygamous? It was established that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) married more than one wife. Our ancestors in African Traditional Religion do marry more than one wife. It is difficult to find a traditional ruler (the alase ikeji orisa)in African who does not have more than one wife. The Ikwere tribe in Rivers State for instance, whenever a man is to take a chieftaincy title, he is mandated to take a second wife. What are we now saying? If the three major religions we are familiar with in this part of the world have records of polygamy, what is then wrong with polygamy?

In this our present time, we live more polygamous life than those days of the book. How many men and women old and young, married or unmarried can boldly come out to boast of the number of partners they keep, either in secret or open? Most people have more than one. There are men of God in Nigeria today who married more than one wife. Pastor Chris Oyakilome of Christ Embassy, Pastor Lazarus of The Lord Chosen, even Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life had got his second wife after the death of his first wife. Who is now saying polygamy is wrong? There is polygamy in Islam and Christianity. If you say no, show us where in the Bible and Qur'an polygamy is outrightly stated as being wrong from God our creator.
