The position of the number ONE Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) is no doubt a mere position to be occupied by a ranking member without adequate and extraordinary character, abilities, intelligence, charisma, and unbeatable experience. As the outgoing speaker; Rt. Hon. Ikuforiji Sabit have laid rigorous foundations and prints that much be maintained and sustained towards ensuring the success of our incoming Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode. Thus, based on the 5 divisions which Lagos State is founded and sub-divided, sharing of imminent positions has been done, probably in accordance to each division's level of patronage and pulled results at polls.‎
As history has it, it is evident that since the democratic rule between 1999 to date, almost the 5 Divisions (Ikeja, Badagary, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe) have tested and enjoyed the Government's administration by having notable position(s) (Governor, Deputy Governor, and Speaker of LAHA) in accordance to their contributions to the development and patronage to our State's ruling Party. And as such, Ikorodu be it as it may has been marginalized in every way possible by not been apportioned such sense of belonging and its rightful entitlements as Ikorodu Division have not lost the State's election to any party, but always won for our dear party. This opinion can be considered at this moment as Ikorodu has turned around notably and should be commended and reckoned with. It can be said that electoral results from each Local Government (from the 20 LGs) that Ikorodu's result have always been between 15th and 17th position as history has it. But going by the 2015 results, Ikorodu made a tremendous turn-around as it is evident that our results stands between 1st and 5th position, thereby being additional winning power for our Political Party. Such tremendous result needs to be maintained and sustained by giving such Division/Constituency a well deserved position in the State.
Going by IBILE (Ikeja, Badagary, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe), all these divisions have well tasted imminent positions in the State affairs either as Governor, Deputy Governor, and or Speaker of LAHA, except Ikorodu which was given good you can send it a 10-day Deputy Governor. Though, on-record, but to the real sense of belonging, Ikorodu needs maximum return in accordance to their patronage ability in the just concluded 2015 general elections. It is believed the position of Governor and Deputy Governor is out-of race, except for the position of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
As Ikorodu's record would have it, presentation of a 2nd term or 3rd term Honourable have been impossible till this very moment of having a more competent hand, intelligent, charismatic, passionate, and a well disciplined and respected 3rd term Honourable; Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade whom we (Ikorodu's) believe is fit and entitles to the seat of the Speaker of LAHA, considering the present stand of Ikorodu among IBILE. Be it as it may, Ikorodu Division deserves a well and more meaningful position in Lagos State.
Coming down to zoning of positions of the State by Senatorial Districts, it is evident from the 7th Assembly that it is not the actual or most utilized criteria for selecting or sharing of the Three said positions (Governor, Deputy Governor, and Speaker of LAHA). It can be deduced from the current dispensation (7th Assembly, 2011 - 2015) that Rt. Hon. Ikuforiji Sabit was elected to the just concluding 7th Assembly in 2011 from Ikeja I constituency, while he was formally elected in 2007 from his hometown, Epe Constituency. He contested from Ikeja (Lagos West Senatorial District) because a capable hand, qualitative leader, well respected, competent and a well-disciplined person is needed to continue the stabilization of the Assembly for the completion of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola's 2nd term office's tenure. Hence, the need for his return despite his constituency's rejection of his return bid while forgetting to consider the return that could be felt by the people of Epe.
From the fore-going of the 7th Assembly (2011-2015) it can be categorically said that the Governor emerged from Lagos Central Senatorial District, the Deputy Governor emerged from Lagos East Senatorial District, and the Speaker also emerged from Lagos East Senatorial District, and others like Deputy Speaker also from Lagos East, Chief Whip also from Lagos East, except the Deputy Chief Whip that emerged from Lagos East (Kosofe). This sharing opinion is believed to have been invalidated the use of Senatorial Districts as the sharing formula for elected positions of the number 1, 2, and 3 citizens of Lagos State.
Our great political party leaders should also consider the trust which Ikorodu division have showed in the just concluded election and its contribution to the development of our dear Party. The Party leaders should endeavor to maintain and sustain the trust Ikorodu division has displayed in order not to loose this division as we witnessed some loss of some of our Local Governments in some other Divisions of the State.
