THE academic environment of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo town, Ondo State, has again been thrown into mourning as a final year student of the college, Timilehin Akinsiku, slumped and died while on excursion to a tourist centre in Osun State.
Three workers of the institution, including a couple, Pastor Folorunso Akinseye, Mrs Beatrice Akinseye and another Pastor Festus Akinsoyinu Fadakinte and seven others had died in an auto crash at Kajola village, near Ore, two weeks ago.
The final year student was said to have died while on excursion to Erin-Ijesa waterfall in Osun State with other students and executive members of the Student Union Government, SUG, of the institution.
It was learnt that the excursion to the tourist centre was the climax of the annual students' union week in the institution.
Late Timilehin was in the English Language Department in the college.‎
All the students that reportedly embarked on the excursion were hale and hearty and in joyful mood as they climbed the hill.
It was gathered that those who were tired while ascending the hill, waited to refresh by taking water and snacks they brought along for the excursion.
However, the unexpected reportedly happened while the students were descending the hill as the deceased reportedly kept complaining of tiredness to his colleagues.
Some of them helped him by holding his hands and fanning him. He was said to have finally slumped and other student rallied round him to apply first aid treatment but could not revive him.
He was reportedly carried down from the hill and rushed to a hospital in Ilesha from the tourist centre, where further efforts to revive him proved abortive.
Timilehin was later confirmed dead by the medical personnel, who attended to him in the hospital he was rushed to by his colleagues and workers at the tourist centre.
SUG dispels rumour
Meanwhile, the SUG President, Isiaka Kamorudeen, has dispelled rumours that the late Timilehin was murdered during the excursion.
His denial was to put to rest insinuations in the college that the late final year student was murdered. Kamorudeen, who described the sudden death of Timilehin as unfortunate, said he slumped.
The President added that all those that took part in the excursion showed no sign of sickness, but added that they were in joyful mood all through the visit until the unfortunate incident occurred.
The state Police Command said the authorities of the institution were yet to report the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Ondo town.
