Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa Fikile Mbalula has again denied allegations that the South African government paid a bribe for the hosting of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. ‎
Mbalula, who addressed the media on Wednesday afternoon, challenged the United States authorities to prove these allegations,
adding that SA will not be "caught in a battle of the United States authority and Fifa".
"The fact that a payment of $10 million was made to an approved programme above board does not equate to bribery," Mbalula told
the media. "Those who allege should prove their allegations," he said.
"We refuse to be caught up in a battle of the
United States authorities and Fifa," added Mbalula.
Mbalula added that South African government will not speak on behalf of Fifa with regards to the amount of money the South African Football Association paid to fund the Diaspora Legacy Programme.
