So today 20th of November is President Jonathan's birthday as he hits the age of 57.
Born on November 20, 1957 to local boat makers, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is the 14th Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He holds a BSC in Zoology, Msc in Hydrobiology and Fisheries biology and a PhD in Zoology all from the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers state.
He was a former lecturer and environmental-protection officer who was relatively unknown until the crisis which ensued in Bayelsa during the money laundry case involving the then Governor of the state.

Jonathan was made President in May,2010 after a drama involving the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua which saw the entire political bloc in the country move against an alleged cabal who was holding the country to ransom.

Jonathan's emergence as President is one filled with drama following an impressive rise since Nigeria returned to independence in 1999. He was elected alongside former Principal, Depreye Alaheimesigha as Deputy Governor after which he became Governor following the ouster of Alams in 2005 in the oil rich South South state of Bayelsa.
He was later picked as the running mate of Yar'Adua for the 2007 general election and later became substantive President following Yar'Adua's death.

President Jonathan has been described as the most criticised Nigerian President and this can be traced to have begun in January 2012 following an unpopular decision by GEJ to remove fuel subsidy. This led to nationwide unrest and condemnation from all and sundry.

The President has also been under fire following a reported incapability to tackle the problem of insurgency being perpetuated by terror group Boko Haram in the country's North East Region. Boko Haram has reportedly killed hundreds of thousands of Nigerians mostly women and children and the continued detention of 219 girls has elicited global condemnation with the harshtag #BringBackOurGirls going viral.

The president have also been heavily attacked for his seemingly soft stance on corruption as the opposition accuse him of being one of the most corrupt leaders the country have seen. The scandal involving former Aviation minister, Stella Oduah put the government under more critical challenge and GEJ wasn't spared any attack.

President Jonathan has further been under attack with his use of the military in civil cases and the opposition and civil society groups have described his government of being a reminiscing version of the dark days of military rule.

GEJ faces a great challenge next year as the opposition APC has vowed to throw him out of office. It is being predicted that former military ruler, General Muhamadu Buhari would pick the opposition ticket to challenge GEJ at the polls.
