Unending Battle! How To Become A Committee Chairman In NASS

No comments :

With the dust over the leadership of the National Assembly, NASS, gradually settling, the battle for the control of the soul of the national legislature has shifted to who controls each of the 90 powerful standing committees.

No doubt, it will be a tit for tat scenario as all those instrumental to the emergence both Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara on board as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively in last week's election, ‎are patiently waiting for the payday.

It was learnt over the weekend that these distinguished honourables who went against the position of their Political party particularly those in the All Progressives Congress, had already positioned themselves for prime chairmanship slots in both chambers and have made their ambitions clearly known to the two leaders of the NASS.

In essence, the lobbyists had warned that although the key committees should be headed by men and women with cognate experience in the relevant fields, they must be given priority because of the role they played in bringing on board the new leadership against the backdrop of the opposition from their party against them.

Many members are expecting a repeat of what afflicted the 7th Assembly when members of the selecting committee raised by Speaker Tambuwal to select members for the 90 standing committees ended up as Chairmen and Vice chairmen of the committees to the chagrin of the majority, who felt short-changed.
